Huge and impressive gallery with great portraits sorted by periods. Lots of background info in English on the walls give context to the portraits.

Very nice place, free entry - except for some exhibitions. An impressive collection of portraits, you can pay for an audio guide that complements the stories behind the photos.

My favourite gallery in London by far. Always have incredible exhibits and it s a lovely vibe.

The Micheal Jackson exhibition was amazing, also exploring what else the gallery had to offer was fantastic and free. Great day out with the family.

What else are you going to do in central London on a Thursday night, other than visit here for late opening? They also have music on Thursday nights.

This is a decent place to visit on other days too.

A lovely oasis of quiet right in the middle of London. Being able to see some of the most notable names from British history as well is a bonus.

First ever gallery I visited in London in 1973! I'll never forget entering a small, darkly-lit side room, squinting and thinking..' and what might be in here, in such a small room?..' and then was confronted by this somewhat large framed cartoon: I blinked and squinted..lo and behold.. Madonna and Child, Leonardo da Vinci..took my breath away!!
The rest, as they say..is history. I have been coming here ever since and have been a member now for several years. Surely one of the best galleries in the world.
Avoid the restaurants/cafes; poor service and customer care..outrageous prices. Lots of refreshment places nearby. Go for the Art..not the refreshment!

Very interesting place, that makes sense to visit! It is different conception of theater as a public place where all people - the audience and the actors get together for creating a new world of a comedy or drama

If you want to study the color of fabrics. Worth to come There are many pictures to watch, worth a lot to get free!

Great place. Don't miss it. We had dinner at the restaurant....the most fabulous views.

Not only does this have a great collection of artwork the building itself is amazing.

Really, remembering that the painting of Queen Elizabeth I was found at a garage sale in this place.

Get to know the history of Tudor and the Stuart royal family.

This was not in the list of places we intend to visit during our trip to London but was one of the memorable. The collection of paintings is just amazing. To better appreciate the paintings you need to have some knowledge about the British Monarchy and history. Entrance is FREE.

Remember all those paintings for Monarchs you saw in all your history textbooks in school? Henry VIII, Elizabeth I etc.? It never occurred to me that those paintings still existed. Well they do and guess what? A significant number of them are still here. I'll need to return here and devote a whole day to just this place. Definitely worth visiting.

This is free admission ... How big are you? Get acquainted with British history. In particular, there are almost (all?) Portraits of the king after Elizabeth I, so you can understand the figure of the person. Do you have almost any British historical celebrities such as Newton, Boyle, Jane Austen, etc.? Although it may have artistic value, it can be enjoyed wonderfully as a history museum.

It s always a pleasure visiting the national art gallery. Some absolutely beautiful works of art and admissions is free!

I love to go there every now and then to check the new exhibitions.

I get free corporate entry. But I feel the price for full entry is too much.

Enjoyed Friday late here, not too crammed. Great to wander round the free floors and see a lot of whigs from before cameras.

Great gallery with free entry, and also a nice place for stay to see the street show. It's also a place you can see the Big Ben different view, really great for visitors and photographer!

The BP portrait award is always something I come to. Excellent standard of painting. However, it's more often then not absolutely overrun by people and very crowded. The Taylor Wessing show is worth a visit also.

I can only see it. There are many exhibits and stories due to the nature of painting.

Wonderful place with constant stream of new exhibitions and modernising of existing connections. Everything from the 1500's to present day. Will worth a visit.

This is a lovely museum full of old portraits. Definitely worth a visit, and the tours are great.

These stars are for the restaurant, didn't look round the gallery. Had Sunday lunch; food was very good, service excellent and the view amazing. Not cheap but not expensive either, well worth a visit.

Behind the National Gallery. If you have time and having seen other museums you can spend some 'time in this historic portraits.

The portrait gallery just like the national gallery next door is a wonderful place to visit and an amazing free activity to do in london. It offers a excellent examples of classical portraits as well as their contemporary counterparts demonstrating how the art of the portrait has changed over the centuries.

A great gallery that's less popular, and therefore less busy, than the National Gallery around the corner. There is always a good range of temporary exhibitions to supplement the permanent collection.

Fascinating to see different portraits across the globe, across time, including the contemporary collection.

Honestly, what is not to love? Staggering level of impressed.
