I love the annual bp portrait awards - great way to see different styles and methods of capturing people.
I love the annual bp portrait awards - great way to see different styles and methods of capturing people.
I went there mainly for the current exhibition, pre-raphaelites sisters, but the main exhibitions are worth seeing as this museum will close soon for 3 years of work.
A wonderful selection of portraiture in a well laid-out building.
I could come here every day, sit in front of a masterpiece and never run out of inspiration. We've visited countless times and always found something new and to be proud of on behalf of the human race. My best advice is to take it easy. NPG is one place where completing a full loop in one go is probably too much to take in.
If you like history you'll find a lot of kings and Queens portraits in here. It's an ok museum to visit once.
The Martin Parr exhibition was expensive but good, it would have been overpriced if I had not got a Timeout reduction. The free party of the gallery was well laid out and well worth a visit. Allow a few hours.
It was ok. It was mainly pictures of men from years ago. But there were interesting material including women and more modern photos and exhibits
Unfortunately a lot of stuff was unavailable as today because of the upcoming exhibition
Best art gallery in London, excellent shop and good cafe.
Free entry.
A collection of portraits. For those who love art. Every year there is the competition and you can vote which painting you prefer. Places like this help artists to make themselves understood.
High quality exhibition though quite pricey. Good cafe.
Price of food and drinks let it down. By reducing prices you will sell more or have a space where people can eat their own. Gallery was excellent a lot of people but could be due to heavy rain
Nice and quiet. Great art with some great stories next to it.
Lost stage! Worth an offer at the entrance. Just 1 hour to visit it quickly.
Unsurpassed for both fans and students, the museum is free like most of the museums in London, you only pay for temporary exhibitions (in this period you can visit the one dedicated to Michael Jackson). In addition there are also the rooms dedicated to the annual painting award, with the exhibition of all the selected and the winners.
For those who chew a bit 'of English, every day a lecturing is done on a different picture, which lasts around 30 minutes (of course free), for any information just look on the official site Portrait of the day talk.
Free entrance except for a few exhibitions in specific areas of the building.
It was good. There was also a portrait of scientists such as Henry VII and Elizabeth I from Charles 1 and 2 Newton Heli Boyle.
Enjoyable. Standard photo-realism dominating (so not very adventurous overall). Good for what it is. Seems much smaller than previous year.
An excellent gallery just off Charing cross station. Great selection of paintings and you can easily spend many hours here wandering around. There are often changing collections where you have pay to visit. Man Ray portraits was one of them and one which I truly enjoyed.
Many memorable exhibitions. Good coffee shop and roof top restaurant. Good gift shop. Unbeatable location. Free access to permanent exhibition.
I think this is my favourite gallery so far in London. Just because they had a very detailed exhibition on Tudor dynasty which I m always interested in. It is a small gallery and full of historical paintings and modern pictures, but it has a different vibe from those big museums. It s definitely worth a visit if you re into British monarchy history, and portrait things of course, like photography. I even bought a book after it because I was so enjoyed.
Good exhibitions from time to time. It's free so full of gawkers and tourists but a good place to visit if you fancy seeing some good art.
Spectacular portraits from different sources, very good
I haven't been here for a few years but it had the same atmosphere I remember and appreciate. It's peaceful but vividly alive with people at the same time.
Revisited the modern portraits exhibition and saw this year's BP exhibition too which moved me to tears.
Go see and reconnect with your sense of wonder - there are some exceedingly talented artists out there. This is just a snapshot of the talent in the world but it is a snapshot you should see.
Long time since I last visited. Still a fascinating place.
The audio tour is excellent, in fact it's so detailed I'd say it's best to split a visit over two days if you want to learn about every portrait.
For me this gallery was the best in London. There were a lot of interesting portraits, that makes me think about philosophical themes, such as my own life, myself etc. For me the best part was the portraits of modern era. It was incredible how they reflect themselves in their portraits.
Indeed..they have a fruitful collection of worldwide famous artists.... Plan your stay in London more than 2 weeks if you want to enjoy art collections and culture.... Enjoy museums, food, Bars and one of the culture richest towns in Europe...
Free to enter. Can contain a lot of visitors. Contain a lots of history and backgrounds. Really worth a visit.
A small, little museum on the back side of the National Gallery, which is also free. This museum has portraits of Kings and Queens of England and a small history of the Plantagenets. Their are other portraits of people from the 1700s and 1800s here, and a lovely, artsy, gift shop with an excellent selection of historical books. Include a stop at this museum on your way into or out of Trafalgar Square.
Exceptional collection of paintings. Can get very crowded at certain times.
from british royalty through to film and rock music royalty, there is much to be seen here -- most of it free, except for special exhibitions.
I love everything about this Gallery. I go to every show that comes up :)
The exhibits are amazing, almost temple-like in the presentation
Fascinating especially the early 16th century portraits
Amazing artwork history and culture all rolled into one place
Absolutely mesmerizing museum. Portraits that span such great lengths of time. Informed staff and most exhibits are free! Well worth the trip.
Amazing full of different art wonderful place to visit
It seems dull but it is not. There are always some portraits of people you know that are worth discovering.
Great place to study paintings by the great artists and of people. Their permanent and paid exhibitions are definitely worth a visit.
One of the best places to learn the history of Britain through its people's portraits. Lovely restaurant overlooking Trafalgar Square.
My favourite London Gallery. Devastated that it will be closing for such a long period. Will also miss the superb restaurant and it's view.
One of the must see places in London to visit. On Trafalgar Square and free to get in. Your typical paintings but all portraits, lots of King s and queens and historical portraits, as well as modern day portraits from Elton John to Judi drench, beetles etc, allow a couple of hours to walk around and very central and close to Covent garden.
My first BSL Tour by Alan Murray and throughly enjoyed it
It s a wonderful gallery to visit. The history and the location are second to none.
Amazing interactive exhibition "Black is the New Black "
Brilliant as ever, apart from the rehang of the early 20th century pictures, moved from the top floor to make space for a restaurant. Now badly hung and lit - too high, too many reflections.
Micheal Jackson's OFF THE WALL exhibitions was interesting
I have membership which, as I was living in London, paid for itself as the special exhibitions aren't cheap. Brilliant special exhibitions and permanent collections.
This place is a must see . Way too many pictures to see in a short time .you leave in amazement that how good they are and how many there are .
Beautiful place. Excellent if you wanna spend an hour or all day.
