Centre of technical excellence and a very large building packed with academics and interns
The wall of achievement is really interesting with my favourite being Alan Turing
We need centres of excellence like these to keep us at the forefront of global technology

Tours are open for members of the public and at a reasonable price. Parking is an issue however so be sure to book in advance.
Lots to see and explore, very high tech laboratories and the science staff were welcoming and happy to answer any questions about their research.
Lunch is provided and a substantial offering at that. Free hot chocolate/coffee machines are in every tea room to keep you refreshed on the tour.
Fascinating work, you even get a metrology themed mug to take away as a souvenir.

NPL HR called me for interview about IT Job which i have applied for, interview was very good at the end of interview they were very happy and showed me whole office and i met IT team too, but after that they never give me feedback. I have sent email to HR lady who called me for interview but no reply back I felt really disrespected myself and i have very bad feeling for them.

Voluntary attendance. They ran some tests, administered some procedures and turned me into freaking Captain America. Naturally I will call myself Colonel Britain, and instead of a shield - I will carry a Vibranium Tea Tray

10* would be more appropriate for this incredible place! I learnt about them about 30 years ago, from a tiny magazine Anglia. Little had I known back then that I would live near by!
During the WW2 they created jumping bombs. They are the birthplace of the atomic clock and I can keep listing their achievements, but you'd learn much more from paying a visit.
For the science-thirsty minds: every 2 years NPL has Open Day, when you can come and browse through a few laboratories, meet with the scientists working there and ask your burning questions.
They also treat you to ice-cream made with liquid nitrogen; you can buy various funky, yet useful souvenirs and even get a cute atomic clock! I got one about 4 years ago, but dropped it yesterday and now - cant wait until I get a new one in May! And, of course, will visit more laboratories.

I called this people and they don't know what they are doing. This organization like many other are put in front of Space travel undergoings to work in partner ships with other organizations and when on the National and international level. Space travel has been on the stand still for more then 30 years now. I wonder why .

Visited on the open day - what an excellent showcase for the sciences engineering and technology but better than these the young people. The future is in capable hands if this is an example of those destined for leadership in whatever fields they choose.

About National Physical Laboratory

National Physical Laboratory (NPL) is the UK's National Metrology Institute, which has been providing measurement capability for over a century. The institute was established in 1900 and has since then played a crucial role in ensuring the UK's prosperity and quality of life by providing accurate measurements that underpin various industries.

NPL is an internationally recognized center of excellence in measurement science, with a reputation for delivering world-class research, consultancy, and calibration services. The institute works with businesses, governments, and academia to develop innovative solutions to complex measurement challenges.

The NPL team comprises over 600 scientists, engineers, technicians, and support staff who work across various fields such as physics, chemistry, materials science, engineering design & development. They are committed to advancing the state-of-the-art in metrology through cutting-edge research programs that address emerging challenges faced by industry.

One of NPL's key strengths is its ability to provide traceable measurements that are essential for international trade. The institute maintains national standards for physical quantities such as time & frequency; length; mass; temperature; pressure & vacuum; electrical units & electromagnetic radiation. These standards are used by industry sectors such as aerospace & defense; energy & environment; healthcare & life sciences; manufacturing & engineering.

NPL also offers calibration services that help businesses ensure their measuring instruments meet required accuracy levels. Calibration services include dimensional metrology (e.g., micrometers), electrical metrology (e.g., multimeters), temperature metrology (e.g., thermocouples), pressure/vacuum metrology (e.g., gauges), optical radiation metrology (e.g., spectrophotometers).

In addition to its core activities related to measurement science and technology development/transfer/collaboration with industry partners/government agencies/academia worldwide - NPL also provides training courses on various topics related to measurement science.

The institute has several facilities located across the UK including Teddington headquarters near London where most of its research takes place along with other sites at Huddersfield University campus West Yorkshire where it operates an Advanced Manufacturing Centre focused on developing new technologies for manufacturing processes using advanced materials like graphene or carbon nanotubes among others.

Overall NPL plays a vital role in ensuring the UK remains competitive globally by providing accurate measurements that underpin many industries' success stories while also contributing significantly towards scientific advancements through cutting-edge research programs aimed at addressing emerging challenges faced by society today!
