10* would be more appropriate for this incredible place! I learnt about them about 30 years ago, from a tiny magazine Anglia. Little had I known back then that I would live near by!
During the WW2 they created jumping bombs. They are the birthplace of the atomic clock and I can keep listing their achievements, but you'd learn much more from paying a visit.
For the science-thirsty minds: every 2 years NPL has Open Day, when you can come and browse through a few laboratories, meet with the scientists working there and ask your burning questions.
They also treat you to ice-cream made with liquid nitrogen; you can buy various funky, yet useful souvenirs and even get a cute atomic clock! I got one about 4 years ago, but dropped it yesterday and now - cant wait until I get a new one in May! And, of course, will visit more laboratories.
