To be honest, it was the first time we felt like criminals in a museum. We went there with our two small kids. It seems they are not used to that. So two guards were following all over the lobby and asking us what we were doing when we decide to sit on a bench. Then they were coming back every 3 minutes to check what we were doing while sitting on a bench. It was an awful experience.

I love the gallery..and the Art is amazing. The problem is some of the tour guides and the gaurds. They assume everyone has bad intentions and follow you. They make it impossible to truly enjoy the experience. Too many unnecesary rule.

I was skeptical going in but had a lot of fun. People don't usually equate art and Canada... I mean it's Canada but I was certainly wrong. Their inuit art is fantastic and numerous. Definitely worth a visit.

Very nice selection of both Canadian and International art. The gallery includes painting from big names such as Botticelli, Picasso and Pollock. I'm not a fan of modern art, so I didn't check this part of the museum... I highly recommend The Death of General Wolfe, The Voice of Fire, Pine Island and the entire Inuit section. The price is Ok, but if you're a citizen of Ottawa, you can rent the artpass at the library, which lets a maximum of 2 adults and 3 children view the permanent exhibits for free. Plan at least 1 1/2 hours for each the Canadian and International section and maybe 30 minutes for every other section.

Magnificent temporary exhibitions are organized here. We cover art as a whole, from its origins to today. The rooms of the permanent exhibition are worth a visit. The emphasis is on Canadian artists. Temporary exhibitions and permanent exhibitions are paying ($), except for children 11 years old and under. It is possible to subscribe. Various activities are offered there. Discoveries in perspective. An institution in Ottawa. On the other hand, the excess of supervision of the visits for the temporary exhibitions is frankly heavy. Entrances are made in batches and at fixed times ... unlike many museums. Once entered, no exit to come back ... as is the case in many museums. So: drinking water, going to the bathroom or taking care of the baby must be done before the entrance at the prescribed time and you must bring handkerchiefs, glasses or anything else you may need. Drinks, food and backpacks are not allowed in the exhibition halls ... as is the case in most museums.

This is probably one of the prettiest art museum I ve ever been to. The building itself is really a piece of art
You can see the river and parliament directly from the museum.
Highly recommend!

I like the place, it was very interesting taking a tour and seeing everything. I didn't care much for the modern art part of it - though I hugely respect it, but you still get to see you a huge amount of classical paintings that are well known in Canadian history and as both a student and an art enthusiast it's a great attraction.

A must visit in Ottawa, this gallery is a jewel of Canadian and world Art. Variety of paintings and exhibits from different periods of history and different parts of the world allow you to witness some great quality art work and how it has changed thru ages.

The building itself is wonderful. Many stories and floors to explore.

Located close to our hotel, it was a short walk. We spent half a day here looking at everything and really appreciating the pieces.

Would love to see more variety next time we visit.

There are lot of great art in here. Many different exhibitions. Some of the paintings are exquisite, if you start following the brush strokes you can get lost for hours, trying to imagine the creation of the painting. Great way to spend the day. You need to be interested in art or willing to learn. If you are just here to take a look around you may not like it as much, still you will enjoy the space. The space itself is extremely large and just the shear architecture will mesmerize you. I can just come here and sit my day through. You should definitely visit if you have the time.

Let s begin by saying that I m not a big fan of Art Galleries at all. But this gallery completely changed my mind of it.
I visited this place cause the cruise tour guide recommended me to go and I was in the gift shop to check for souvenirs before my visit. The gift shop really has a large variety of items to choose from. You can find pins to put on your bags, magnates on your fridge or even jewelry at affordable price. During my shopping time, I was told that this gallery actually carry collections of Van Ghan, Monet and Picasso!
If you want to check their art works, it s located on the second floor in European and American section. And if you can t find them during your visit, you can always ask people who work there. They re super friendly and knowledgeable!
Overall it s definitely a great experience! And I highly recommend you to come and check this Gallery!
Attached a picture of the view from this Gallery.

Definitely worth checking out! The spaces leading up to exhibition areas are dramatic and have some great views. Designed by famous architect Moshe Safdie (Habitat '67 in Montreal). Check the gallery's webpage for the current exhibit!

This was great and extremely large. Plan for a full day if you want to see all exhibits. We spent about 4 hours here and it could have been way longer. Best to plan out how much time you want to spend at each exhibit, however, you may get lost in some as they are full of exceptional pieces that you may want to spend more time on. This was my second time here and I would recommend it!

I just hope someone other than an intern reads this as I wanted to leave a note here for the folks in-charge: I encountered a misogynist in the area of the Dinosaur exhibits. When I answered back to a misogynist remark he meant as a crude joke, he removed his earplugs and told me: "I had these in, didn't listen". I'm a woman of color and this kind of sickening behavior by staff puts a dent to the experience. I hope you take it into account and train them for etiquette where necessary.

Very interesting exhibitions, I particularly enjoyed the Canadian & Indigestion exhibition. Lovely (warm) building. The prices are good- especially the student discount. There is a cloakroom free of charge and a large gift shop.

I wish our museums were free in Canada. Sometimes I feel I'm living in a private club and I'm not a member. But they have a wonderful auditorium for films and discussions/presentations.
