Maman (1999) is a bronze, stainless steel, and marble sculpture by the artist Louise Bourgeois. The sculpture, which depicts a spider, is among the world's largest, measuring over 30 ft high and over 33 ft wide (927 x 891 x 1024 cm).[1] It includes a sac containing 32 marble eggs and its abdomen and thorax are made of ribbed bronze

A museum with a modern structure, with large exhibition halls, on the day I was there I found artistic samples of different tendencies, some focused on the ethnic and others on the social, I think it is a must if you come to the capital of Canada, enjoy the tour and the museum shop is a real treasure.

A world class gallery, with a fascinating array of paintings, sculptures and other treasures.
The portraits of Paul Gauguin are the principal special exhibition now, and the works give an intimate look into the mind of this great artist. His relationship with other artists of all sorts is explored and we see how he created through his dialogues with them.
An interesting exhibit of Dave Heath's photographs leads us into his vision of the world around him, and we see, in the faces of amazingly ordinary people, a beauty, a pathos, a sense of belonging and separation, all at once.
Another exhibit leads us into the fractured mind and soul of Nietzsche. We see his friends and supporters, how they fell under his spell, and how they championed him and his ideas when he no longer could.
The Gauguin and Nietzsche exhibits form a curious parallel of the subjects' emotional power to influence and their ultimate failures.
Look at these wonderful exhibits, but remember to take in the glories of the rest of the gallery too!

Lots to see for everyone. Everything from newer art, to very old paintings, photography and sculptures. A few sections were closed which was a bit disappointing. I'd definitely recommend coming in July when these added exhibitions are planned to open.

Great morning spent with the parents. It is a beautiful space with amazing local and international art. They do have mobility scooters for those patrons who also need a little assistance getting around the facility.

Admission price is very reasonable considering all that you get to enjoy. I think it's wonderful that people bring their children to museums, but it would be more enjoyable for everyone else if they were also encouraged to be quiet and respectful in museums. That's part of the experience! Shhhh! ;)

Very cool gallery with a varied scope on fine art pieces. It was a great place to spend the day or a few hours examining and appreciating art; great location for a date, family excursion, friendly outing or field trip. As I've heard, they host several weddings in the Great Hall.

The rooms of the Institute of Photography were highly recommended to me; I found them uninteresting. On the other hand, I was dazzled by the new Canadian art rooms and I regretted that I could not devote more time to them.

Great gallery, lots of options for any viewer from historic to contemporary. For price point, it s very accessible - people under 24 only $7 each. Calming space to sit for a few minutes as well. Also a nice stop to save yourself from the hot summer sun!

National Gallery of Canada sits on Sussex Drive right opposite the Notre Dame Cathedral and the building architecture stands out in the city's skyline. The interiors are segmented into contemporary art, native art and artists from modern and historic Canada. If you are an art lover you could easily spend a day here but give yourself 2 -3 hours for viewing and capturing photos of the place with the background of the city.

Only two floors of art exhibits but a massive place. Well curated. I came to see Paul Gauguin's Portraits special exhibit. I enjoyed my visit here today. Was happy to see works of Monet, Van Gogh, Degas, Picasso, The Canadian Group of Seven, & Emily Carr.

Public Alert!

Public Alert!

I just want to let know to all members and walking in patrons that your health might be compromise inside this building, the guide lines are not enforce equally especially with administration and security personal, I hate to sound cheesy but in this building "some are more equals than others"

Entry points, elevator and linking corridors with poor ventilation, this are places where all staff must go through to enter the building where some staff won't wear their mask, even in the gallery without repercussions what so ever, I was told that I was gonna lose my job if I was caught once and made sign a paper to agreed to the conditions.

So keep safe distance from any staff, and Do NOT use elevators with poor ventilation or any at all, and keep away from the washroom since there is poor ventilation.

Please be safe and stay safe.

Thank you to all the staff that takes this seriously that wears their mask at all times inside the building as ask by guidelines, you know who you are.

Good place to visit for permanent galleries as well as other visiting exhibitions but the admission is much too high. No discount for seniors is a shame. They should let people free a d ask for donations (like it is in London UK).

Amazing building to visit. Whether you live in ottawa..or are just visiting...this is worth every moment of youre time to visit.. even more than once. Bring a family member or a friend on a special occasion and feel a bit of history and abit ritzy at the same time. The gallery has a cafeteria and a cafe as well as gift shop and tonnes of paid parking under the building . Not to mention the breathtaking views of parliment and the river surrounding the area. Also check for family days and activities and keep up to date with new exhibits.

Such an outstanding architectural gem. Worth visiting just to absorb that beauty. But the exhibits are not to be missed. Some of the installations are emotionally overpowering. Should be sen by every Canadian ( and visitor to Canada).
