Great selection of art from around the world. Highlights include the exhibit of american furniture and the american impressionists. Lots of sculpture. This is a huge museum with lots of nooks and crannies to explore. A special exhibit on dutch maritime painting was open while we were there.

Went there on a summer weekday with my wife for our anniversary. It was surprisingly uncrowded, yet the gallery still offers priceless collections from well-known artists, such as Monet, Rembrandt, and many others. I love how it's organized by time period and region making it very easy to prioritize exhibits you most want to see. We fit in a lot in the 2 hours we spent and felt very satisfied!

Such an amazing collection of art and the the building itself was a sight to behold. They have Van Gogh and Monet which are some of my favorite painters. The musuem shop was one of the best I have seen too. I bought some tings there for a fair price. I would definitely go again if I had the chance!

Amazing. Beautiful art from all over the world and by some of the most well known artists. Most rooms have seating so you can sit and get lost in the artwork. My wife and I love it for a date.

I'm not much into art, so I'm surprising myself by giving the Gallery of Art a five star rating. There's some amazing pieces of art here, but what I love the most are all the different chambers some with cafes and some with gardens. The basement houses one of the biggest and best gift shops in any of the Smithsonians. There's a very cool tunnel connecting the main gallery to the sculpture gallery that's worth seeing and snapping a photo.

The largest non-Smithsonian museum in D.C. stands on its own and often contends quite easily with the much larger Smithsonian museums. With an emphasis on Western artwork and the development over time from Byzantine all the way to contemporary shows you how far art has advanced. The size of the collection alone assures that there will be an art piece for everyone.

Many paintings from different centuries and periods, with great variety and rarities. Arrive early as it closes at 5pm. It is possible to conduct guided tours, which have specific time to occur.

I love those wonderful arts. But the security in the front and the hall are horrible. Never nice answerback or kind ever. I have been there couple of times. Jut I always had bad experience with them....lazy.....and unkind....

Great collection!!! They have the some of most popular paintings from Monet!! I was amazed by that! There are also paintings from Rembrandt, Botticelli, Goya, Van Gogh, Renoir, Cezanne, Manet, Gauguin. The indoors of the building are beautiful, too.
Have fun and take your time!

They have an incredible range of art from almost every period. Highlights for me were the Rembrandt and Dutch section, and the pop art. You can easily spend a whole day here. Audio tours are free so I recommend picking one up!

It's free and it's AMAZING!!!!!

It's free and it's AMAZING!!!!!

The collection on display is massive and it's in multiple buildings with an outdoor sculpture garden.
The only sad part is the amount of stuff they have in storage that isn't out on public display. If they had ten buildings they probably still couldn't show it all!
If you want to see all of the art they have on display, you're going to need to get there when they open, have lunch in the cafeteria as you make your way from one building to the other and then hope you wore comfortable enough shoes to keep going until they close.

It s hard not to love a gallery as expansive and accommodating as this one. I try to visit every weekend, for special movies and events especially. Also free tours that are offered are a tremendously helpful way to learn what s inside. Highly passionate guides and the loveliest staff members.

I fall in love with different pieces every time I visit the National Gallery of Art. Everything is so beautifully and intentionally curated and displayed, and you can feel the mood change as you move from room to room.
Even the gift shops and cafe are wonderful! I could spend a whole day exploring just one section of the museum and be just as excited to return the next day for more.
Photos are a few of my favorites from my visit July 7th.

Nice, interesting Museeum that can hardly be done in half a day. Exhibition of sculptures, coins, furniture, art paintings and craftsmanship from American history. Really highly recommended. Note: Only small bags are allowed upon entry, security checks!

Absolute must do while in Washington D.C. You could easily spend a couple of hours or even the entire day here, admiring the vast and varying art collections. There really is art for every taste. Highly recommend.

Took the Georgia O Keeffe Tour at the National Gallery of Art hosted by Washington, DC History & Culture. Only visited the East Building there's mostly paintings, many of these by well known artists. There's artwork by Matisse, O'Keefe, and Picasso among others. Great way to spend the afternoon. Highly recommend .

You must visit the National Gallery of Art. So many famous paintings and sculptures, and so many famous painters and sculptors that your head will be spinning around as you move from room to room. The gallery itself is a work of art, huge, and rambling. It could take a day or a week to get through or you can be more precise and visit one section at a time. A must stop and see. Pictures are allowed, drinks are not. Water fountains for the thirsty.

Wow!
