One of the best museums in Washington, and quite possibly the world, I made this an essential part of my trip to the US capital. It's really too big to see everything in a day, so I had to choose the parts I wanted to see the most, which included the impressionists, the Dutch masters and the Van Gogh collections. I was expecting a lot and I wasn't disappointed in the slightest. It is a place that must be visited on a trip to Washington, and best of all, it's completely free!

There is so much to see inside the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC, which in my opinion, rivals what I ve seen in the Louvre Museum in France. I am an art lover, so I do not mind spending hours admiring impressionists and their use of color and light and gazing at the great pieces of art.

The museum is huge with collections of European and American arts. And because there is no entrance fee, you don t feel compelled to see it all at once. Come back as often as you want.

One more thing, once you enter the building, get a map before you wander around. You don t want to miss something you re dying to see.

The photos you see below are just few of the hundreds of exhibits on display. Some galleries didn t allow photography inside, so my shots were limited. Enjoy.

One of the places to visit in DC located around National Mall. Mostly people with liking in sculptures, painting, artifacts would like this place. It's a free entry and you can park on the street for $2/hr Max up to 3 hours using the street vending machines that accept coins plus major credit cards. A lot to see inside and the authority provides you with a map where you can look for any specific exhibits you are looking for. 3 hours should be enough.

You should spend at least two hours on a visit. I came to the museum with my dad. He stayed in the comfortable armchairs in the lobby entrance, resting and enjoying a good temperamental and surfing on wifi. I turned around and I enjoyed the variety of works from different periods and styles.
Bring a map and plan the tour, since there are about three-storey building with transitions. Souvenirs basement includes a large art books, puzzles, posters and more.

There is so much to see here. For example, there are more Vermeers hanging here than in his own hometown. Wonderful place to show children art. Spacious and accessible for free. Take enough time.

If you want a quiet place to escape while visiting the museums, go here. Plenty of beautiful art to appreciate while taking a moment to not feel overwhelmed with the noise of large crowds of people.

It's fun every single time. Great place to visit if you are on a trip to Washington DC. They have food and good number of restrooms inside, so no worries about it. Typically you will end up spending half of your day to see everything here. If you are an art enthusiast then you will spend one full day here. It's not crowded any time as this place does not attract many children. If you happen to visit this place during summers, it offers a cool environment where you can relax as well.

Extremely wide range of times, styles, directions and names. Time requires much more than a sightseeing tour, but Da Vinci and France of the nineteenth century. managed to see The entrance is free, as it is everywhere in Washington.

Can spend hours just walking every single room this building has, and now that the East Building is open again, I can spend more time! Will always love coming here. The art continues to amaze me no matter how many times I visit.

Outstanding variety of paintings and sculpture. Takes about three hours to do the full museum at a brisk pace. Atmosphere was mostly quiet. The building itself is also beautiful. Allow yourself enough time to visit both buildings that are part of the gallery - connected by an underground tunnel.

A wonderful exhibition. I am amazed that you can watch it for free. It was too wide to see all in one day. Since there is no fence, you can see the masterpiece in front of you. Photo movie shooting available. There is a security check at the time of immigration, and it is said that the backpack is put on one shoulder.

Excellent tour, I don't even like an art museum, but it is wonderful, ask for beautiful sensational architecture. When we went there was even a painting by Da Vinci. great place to spend the afternoon. The place is huge and has a lot to see between paintings, sculptures, decorative pieces, newer and also very old objects. Take snack, water and bathroom has on site.

Loved going here. Had great volunteers that helped us to not miss anything. Paid guards were super too. Very smooth entry through security. Saw Hudson River to daVinci. Sculptures and gardens inside. Huge gift store. Really enjoyed seeing people doing replicas of great works in the museum. Make sure not to miss the Dutch Masters.

The National Gallery of Art is an amazing museum with art for everyone and at all ages.

If you're in to painting, sculpture, photography or modern art (whatever that might be) you'll find it here.

The National Gallery of Art is huge with a majority of the exhibits spread across two buildings (connected by a very cool underground tunnel). In addition to the art you'll also find great shopping (art related items in the gift shops) and plenty of dining options (including a killer brunch on weekends).

Overall the National Gallery of Art is one of my favorite places to visit when I'm in Washington, DC.

How can you get kids interested in art if they are not welcome at all!

I went to visit with my 3 kids (10, 7 and 5). We live in the area but I was waiting for the right time to go as I was hoping to get them interested in art at a young age. Unfortunately my experience was really bad.

The museum is great as it hosts great works of art, however almost every person I interacted was either a snob (very common on people interested in art for some reason) or plain rude.

As soon as we entered the very first room, my 7 year old got to about 2 feet from a painting pointing at something he liked. My wife quickly stopped him and started explaining that he needed to stay away from the art. Even though she stopped him in time and we clearly had the kids under control, a security guard came and started scolding my son. My son got really scared, sat on a sofa and started sobbing silently, since he wanted to cover his face he put his legs on the sofa to cover his face with his knees. The guard came to him again and told him he needed to take his shoes off the (very cheap and plastic) sofa. I told the guard he was overreacting since he was just a kid and then he started with his typical speech of "you cannot tell me how to do my work" and actually asked us to leave the room.

We did not leave the museum but you can imagine the kids have no interest on ever going to that museum again, and neither do I.

I have great respect for the Smithsonian as an institution and love all other museums, however I was deeply sadden with the experience.

I really cannot imagine how art can be promoted to kids if they are not welcome at all.

I love that this place turns into an outdoor ice skating rink as it gets closer to winter. The costs for skate rentals and for time slots are very inexpensive and it provides great scenery. A great place for a family outing.

Great gallery. Security guards are rude and disrespectful from lack of training. Avoid interactions or asking them questions. Don't let your infants or babies cry as they will tell you to keep them under control.
