Very disappointed with my visit. They let to many in, you can't stop and look at anything your in a sea of bodies being carried along.loads of tour parties that stop in a big huddle and you have to get round them.

Renowned for Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel, the Vatican Museum also houses collections by van Gogh, Chagall, Dali and Picasso. Then there's the famed rooms by Raphael.
While you should be prepared for the crowds - rain, hail or shine - a visit to the Vatican Museum should accompany any trip to Rome.

We were so surprised to see this museum had so much!! You can spend a while afternoon there. It was kind of like the Louvre in that it had corridors filled with Roman and Greek antiquities. There is even a gallery for modern art which contrasts nicely with the art from antiquity.

A must for anyone coming to Rome, but be prepared for a full day of walking. The museum holds a huge collection of different artifacts from the past pope's transport, to Roman and beyond treasures. On a hot day it can be a bit much, but something not to be missed. From the upper floors you can see fantastic views of Rome also. Only let down by the facilities to have something to eat.

Absolutely breathtaking to see Michael Angelo s painting of the Sistine Chapel. Highly recommend booking a ticket a few weeks in advance as we queued from 9:30 and it took us 4 hours to get in.

There are a lot of important and amazing works of art through the museum band Sistine Chapel. Not to mention that you can get into St. Peter's Basilica, and up top of the Basilica.

You will see some of the most famous artwork in history and some of the most important ancient statues ever found. This is one of the most see places in Rome.

I could tell you about what you will see but I'm not historian or expert. I do suggest the tour, but there is a lot of information and shows you can see about what you will find in the Vatican. I recommend learning about it before you go and then taking your time seeing it.

By the way, going up to the top of the Basilica afterwards will give you the best views of Rome but it's a lot of stairs.

It's soooooo big. I've managed to miss two whole exhibitions somehow. I didn't take the audio guide this time and still spent 4 hours at this museum.
And I would like to share my experience with some kind of guides outside the entrance of the museum. They are waiting for the victims right next to the metro station and keep asking for everyone if they have an online ticket claiming that it is the only way to get to the museum. There are lots of them near the entrance and they keep telling the same lie. I almost believed in that and let me guide to the some kind of travel agency for the online ticket. In the middle of the way I suspected the fraud and came back to the museum. The visitors without the ticket enter the museum from the left side of the main door and buy the ticket inside the museum without any problems at all. So be aware!!!

It's amazing but it's crowded. To get the most of it you really have to get a guided tour. There's thousands and thousands of pieces of artwork there's no way you can see it all. Find a good tour guide and tell him what you're interested in. Pick a scene like Renaissance sculpture or fresco paintings if you want a more in-depth art experience.

Honestly this will take couple of days to finish but if you want to do it, you'll be able to do it in about 2.5 hrs- if you take the guides tour. Walking leisurely with the audio guide will be longer if you plan to listen every single one of them. Entrance to the museum is great. You go upstairs to get the ticket and still go up to get the audio guides. Last Sunday of the month is FREE. Sistine Chapel is the best attraction. Before you head there, ppl look at the scores of sculptures and one of the most beautiful and important one is that of Thinking man by Rodin. Last time when I went there, I didn't even know it was there. This time I didn't miss it. Don't know how many pictures your camera can take but you still will be running out of time, memory and battery!! Lasting memories of Sistine Chapel and if you listen to the audio guide you will be able to understand the trials and tribulations of the artists and their mentors of those days! In early days, the power was with the church as they had the knowledge. If I remember correctly so many Popes were actually mathematicians, astronomers, physicists etc. Good thing that they wrote the books and were able to spread the knowledge.

Wow, world class attraction, best historic artwork. Very busy, very beautiful. Good value for money. I recommend that you get a queue jumping ticket and a guide because the standard queue is huge and with the crowds you need to be shown the best bits.

The most crowded place on earth - great history to see, but you can t enjoy or read as there are people standing on top of you. No climate control, so everyone smells in the summer. 1 star, but I give 2 because of the history and quality of the artifacts

Amazing art! I went with a tour and was able to skip the lengthy lines and learn about the art works displayed which was awesome. The Sistine Chapel gets absolutely packed like a can of sardines but it is a must, the labour that went into painting the ceiling is just amazing. Make sure to wear comfy shoes as there s a lot to see and come early morning to try and avoid the lines and crowds

Amazing museums with loads of stuff to see and enjoy.
Is a must see when in Rome.
We bought the tickets online so it's easier to entry and not stay in lines to purchase them.
At the entry, after security, there are some automatic machines to change your voucher to regular tickets.

At the museums go by yourself it's easy to understand the circuit. I'd recommend to buy an audio guide because there's so much information and history in each conner, you don't want to miss it.

Take some time to visit all the museums, you are paying for this opportunity, enjoy.

The sheer amount of art and the intricate details covering every corner is insane, but it's extremely busy. Paying extra for a tour and to skip lines is worth it. Not a place to calmly take it all in, it's more like a wild river floating rapidly along thousands of ancient artefacts. A bit exhausting, but the experience is a must.

Good art collections - from paintings to sculpture...

Good art collections - from paintings to sculptures. Entry price is EUR 17 (all Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel). However, the queues can get very long. Try to reach here by 7-7.30 am, although you'll have to wait till 9 am for the counters to open. Touts will come offering quicker entry but for a high fee. My recommendation is if the queue is not long, then wait it out.

Plain and simple, if you want to go, go as early as possible.

The Vatican was a must do for obvious reasons, but it's managed so poorly. Perhaps it's simply and impossible task as there's are so so many that wish to experience the city on any given day, but personally i think there's some adjustments that could supremely improve the experience.

To start, I believe there are 2 entrances. One that allows you entry into St Peter's square and the basilica, the other that allows entry initially into the Vatican museum then follows more a oath eventually leading to the Sistine chapel and ending with st Peter's basilica. The former is around 8 , the longer was 17 .

We arrived around maybe 1030/11 am and there were FLOCKS of people. Understandable, very unique place. As we approached SPsquare from the East there are countless people attempting to sell you expedited tours for around 35 . Perhaps they aren't scams and they're just expensive, but I didn't see 1 person take any of these people up. It's *literally* one after the next. Many wear attire similar to that of the Vatican patrolman and it's deceiving. Do not speak to anyone for help unless they're wearing a dark blue suit with the official Vatican coat of arms. They all have headsets as well. They only appeared at the entrances and onward.

The men selling hiked tickets, umbrellas, souvenirs really out a damper on the entire experience. On top of that, there's a section where you stop following the museum path and follow signs for the Sistine chapel. It takes awhile to get there and you're jam packed into massive crowds the entire time. There's simply not enough room and to be quite frank, if there was an emergency (fire/etc) it would be catastrophic. Sistine chapel is just guards telling you to keep moving St Peter's basilica was cool, just do that.

Rich in history and culture and knowledge and wisdom and everything was great. Must to get a tour guide to explain to you the tiny bits of history. Especially for those who have never heard about this.

These museums were incredible, but also incredibly overcrowded. The Sistine Chapel is also very beautiful, and much bigger than I expected. Buy your ticket in advance to avoid waiting 2 hours to buy one.

Vatican is one of the largest cathedrals in the world and true to the reputation, it indeed is HUGE and quite magnificent. Has amazing art work that you can marvel at whilst visiting, there's a lot of history to absorb too. Had a great time visiting this place.

Incredible museum with a lovely little cafe inside. In the museum you're surrounded by beautifully carved statues and painted walls and ceilings, and there's such a variety of things to see, from ancient scriptures carved in stone tablets, to astronomical equipment and even Egyptian artefacts. If you like history, I recommend getting an audio guide and spending a day there (the guided tours seemed rushed through at times). The Sistine Chapel is also best with an audio guide as you're not allowed to talk in there so the guided tours can't tell you about the amazing artwork and architecture. Definitely worth a visit, the highlight of our trip to Rome!

Absolutely incredible experience. Stunning artwork and architecture. Don t expect to be there for any less than 3 hours - and even at that we didn t see the whole thing. It was busy but if you have skip the line tickets you should be fine. I cannot stress this enough - buy your tickets online! There will be a ton of people outside trying to sell you guided tours, tickets etc - just get your ticket beforehand and head straight to the doors.

Crowded and almost impossible to absorb the vastness of it all. There were just so much to see. We sent with the 10 o clock guided tour, maybe if you book in advance and try to be there earlier, I ve heard it is also possible to book tours later in the evening which maybe also is to prefer over being stuck with tens of thousands of other people. Also, do not miss going up the dome of the St Peter Church, but try to be there when they open becasue the lines will be massive as soon as 9 o clock.

Very busy so it s always worth to get a guided tour. Most people on the street trying to sell you tickets are offering a tour for 55 but are open to movement. We batted them down to 45 per head which I thought was a reasonable price considering the price of an entry ticket is 20 and skip the line (over an hour wait). They talk about all the paintings rooms and views. The tour takes you from Vatican Museum to Sistine Chapel then straight into St Peter s Basilica.

5 star museum. Wonderful and helpful staff, a marvellous place, excruciatingly packed - at 10:30 in November, I wrongly thought it was off season! I wish the ticket sales were limited so I could have picked a better time slot. 3 stars is the experience. The Sistene Chapel was like being in the standing area of a rock concert, couldn't move, couldn't see, shuffled along. Almost the whole museum was the same. Audio guide not very useful, hard to spot the tiny numbers on signs, vast areas have no information or signs - take your own guide book if curious about particular pieces, and as said - hope you're not clashing with 10 coach tours.

What would a trio to Rome, Italy be without a trip to The Vatican. Guilded with gold and intrigue. We heard stories about some not so upstanding church notables. The guide did a phenomenal job of detailing the extensive artwork collection, room by room.

So much of history! I have been to many museums but never have I seen collections of this scale and magnitude in one place. The rooms seem overflowing with antiquities and priceless artifacts. Read everything you can about the lines and the entrance because it gets busy. Don't fall for the Skip the Line hawkers as you approach St Peter's.

Beautiful museum! It s huge! I highly suggest a tour guide to take you through the highlights otherwise you will get lost and you cannot cover the museum in one day. We did your tours via Maya tours. Usually we don t do tours, but she was super amazing! Learned sooo much about the museum!

Buy your tickets online beforehand, cannot stress this enough! The line was about 500m long but with our pre booked tickets we were straight in! The museum aspect was magnificently done, easy to follow and all of the pieces flowed on from one another very nicely. So nice to appreciate the Vatican's rich history up close. Be sure to look for the Creation of Adam (it's on the middle of the ceiling) and the many other famous artworks in the Sistine Chapel. We almost completely forgot it was up there considering how much there is to look at! Overall, a great museum to spend a few hours in.
