One of the best primitive art museums I've been to. The collection is exceptional and the museum has modern solutions incorporated in order to maximise your learning. the amount of available materials is staggering, an audio guide is available at low price, there are screens with short videos scattered throughout the exhibition space and tons of text to read. the collection is organised by geography and spans Oceania, Africa, Asia, and both Americas.

I really enjoyed visiting this museum, I couldn't see everything because it is very large. It has a large collection, from Africa, Asia, Oceania and South America.
We learn a lot about the culture of others and it is a real pleasure. To have !

Not only is the collection widely interesting, the architectural originality of the museum makes it a must-see.
In the evening, under the main building, the lights are beautiful.

They often organize events or exhibits that are well orchestrated.

And a plus, the cloakroom is free of charge.

A multi-faceted museum that allows us to discover a type of art that is difficult to find elsewhere. It is unfortunate, however, to see the sweaty museum staff or even the security side when asking questions about the provenance of the works, bringing them closer to colonialism.

Modern museum with a very rich collection of cultures from all over the world, I was nevertheless disappointed with the part of the Americas and I find that indigenous cultures should be developed a little more.

It is a wonderful museum that you can do with family because its circuit is fun!
Its architecture is modern and exceptional.
Temporary exhibitions are always of good quality and interesting. This is a place that I highly recommend :-)
Even his gardens are pretty, day and night ... with their illuminations.

Probably the best museum in the world for native culture s art.
They have a very rich collection of artworks from every continent. From America to Oceania, you will find out a lot of new things about civilizations.
I was particularly impressed by their collection of antique music instruments too.
The museum is fairly new and the design makes it very pleasant to walk in the building. The garden is also nice.

If you like this kind of primitive art, you'll love it. If not, I'll find the collection quite curious anyway.
I wouldn't say that's a must-visit of Paris. Save the place for offbeat museum visit if are a frequent guest of the capital.

First Sunday of March 2018 Visit for free day

First Sunday of March 2018 Visit for free day
When I went to the website with information that it was open at 9:30, the staff told me that it was open at 11:00.
11:00 on Google Maps
Unfortunately, I forgot which page the information came from.
Extensive collection of folklore materials from Oceania, Asia, Africa and South America as written in this review
However, what I see in Asia is nothing but Chimachogori's underwear, and I wrote about it as a Japanese kimono, and I thought it would be wrong (laughs
It's a Japanese rule, so I don't know if it's Japan or French
The black non-tap here is gentle compared to other museums (especially Orsay)
Next time, I would like to visit slowly on pay days
Oceanian Folklore Documents are also highly recommended at the Maritime Museum in Okinawa

Impressive collections reveal that artistic and creative talents date back to years long before slavery and colonization. The presentation by continent makes the discovery clear for the visitor. Ideal to visit in hot weather. The exterior of the museum is relaxing, refreshing.

It is a modern day meusum with very nice collection. Very attractive architecture. Most of the exhibits were very much interesting. Both building and inside decor is worth the admiration. Amazing place to see unique exhibits. If you have spare time in Paris, and I think you must spares, this is the place you would visit. It's on walking distance from Elysee palace. Recommend to visit both.

This museum contains the vast majority of the heritage of Sub-Saharan Africa. There are 70,000 objects in this museum, 46,000 are acquired during the period 1885-1960 and are likely to be repatriated. The French army's seizures of war in Segou in 1890 in Dahomey and during the murderous expedition against Samory Toure in 1892 were mentioned in the report which advocates "the rapid restitution" of objects taken in Africa by force or " allegedly acquired under unfair conditions ". These are objects seized "during military clashes", those acquired "by military or administrative personnel active on the continent during the colonial period (1885-1960) or by their descendants". Are also concerned parts recovered "during scientific missions prior to 1960". The same is true for "forgotten" objects - that is, those that had been loaned by African institutions to some museums for exhibitions or restoration campaigns but have never been returned.

A museum to do with your children because primitive art speaks to them much more than the classic. We wander through the continents in a mysterious atmosphere. Masks, legends and natural colors galore.

Because I have a knife with me to cut my baguette in the afternoon, I am not allowed in the museum. At other museums I leave the knife at the entrance and pick it up later, or he goes with his bag and all to the cloakroom. This is not possible here. It is "against the law". Too bad then, plenty of museums in Paris.

Didn't actually know about this museum, but it was a very nice experience. Gave a glimpse of old civilizations, tools they used, clothes they wore, etc. Probably an underrated museum that would be very interesting for most. Quite close to the Eiffel Tower. Highly recommend. Went as part of a group and the ticket cost only 7.

To visit !!

To visit !!
The museum is very beautiful, there are magnificent works (masks, drums, jewelry, statues ...), I only put 3 stars because the objects are quite recent (18 / 19th centuries), rare very old objects (2 / 3000 BC) and the lighting is not at all suitable! In the Africa part some works are barely visible !! Also disappointed not to be able to visit the central room of the museum where the 10,000 musical instruments are located which in my opinion is the most important.

The breadth of the ethnographic art is impressive. This is truly the Louvre of ethnography. For me, the highlights of this museum were: 1.)the beautiful costumes from the Oruro festival in Bolivia(La Diablada, from Diablo, Spanish for Devil), and 2.) a religious painting of Christ made by converted South American Indians. For those interested in Voodoo("seen from" or "vu du"), there are many arctifacts used in the Voodoo ritual. I have included photos of the above.
Australian and Oceanic art are very well represented, and exude energy and dynamism.

Amazing global ethnographic museum just a moderate stroll away from the d'Orsay. It's laid out beautifully in a modern style and is typically not very busy. If you love the art and artifacts of indigenous cultures, it's a world-class must and one of Paris' lesser-known gems. A good museum day is to start with the bustle of the d'Orsay and then come here to unwind and take in an entirely different sort of expression.

Interesting Museums and location to visit in Paris close to the Eiffel Tower and in a busy location. No car parking. Staff was helpful and professional. Environment was cleaned and relaxing atmosphere. My family love it.

Museum which is worth the detour because it is very well supplied! I went there for the exhibition "Hit the iron" it is very well documented and the works presented are of quality, even if it is true that the acquisition remains doubtful for some. The dim lights perfectly highlight the works of the museum.
The garden before the entrance is very beautiful, more after dark.
I can't wait to get back to it.
