Magnificent museum with an interesting antiques department and a collection of Lyon painters (mine unknown!)
Too bad however that they have lent one of the seasons of Brughel the Elder, I would have liked to see the four ...

The museum is nice but the restaurant in the first floor has the rudest staff I have seen in Lyon so far, we made a mistake taking our seat ourselves instead of waiting because there was no one there to ask. After that the waiter started being unbelievable rude to me and my mother saying "now thanks to u I have to clean all the stuff you touched.. Unbelievable" if we make a mistake you can tell us that, no problem but in a nice way.
When I said to him that a sign in english would help (its a museum where a lot of tourist are). He answered very rudly that we are in france and there is no need for any other languages than French here. When I told the waiter that French was not my first language he look at me in a way I would have loved to punch you in the face.

It is a beautiful museum, beautiful building, beautiful permanent exhibitions and the last one on draperies taught me many interesting things. In addition, he has works by well-known artists. I only encourage you to go there. The place of the terreaux completely renovated, you are in a Lyonnais framework of excellence.

Very beautiful museum and very beautiful collection. Each object is in its place and has a very interesting legend. The windows protect the works but in no way jeopardize the visit. It's free for many elligible people. Otherwise it's not expensive at all. Next time I will take the audio guide.

Only one star, only because I have to put it. It is not even deserved.
We wanted to see the exhibit on Drapes. Tickets bought at reception, without telling us that, for the exhibition we wanted to see, the price, and therefore the ticket, were different.
By the time we find the entrance for the drapery exhibition, our tickets have been checked 3 times (already annoying enough, because we were in the museum rooms), and it's only once in front of the entrance of the desired exhibit that an extremely rude and stubborn museum caretaker told us that we did not have access to this part.
Nobody informed us that this part had a single price. The guard was obnoxious, and did not admit that his counterpart colleague had made a mistake and should have offered us both types of tickets.
He told us that it was up to us to ask if there were two rates for the exhibitions, and not to his colleague to inform us.

There are some who have hard heads but not for the good things. We tried to make him hear reason by asking him if in the cinema the place sold was given by the ticket clerk according to the choice of film that he would have made, he told us that yes it was.

One of the best museums in Lyon without a doubt! The prices are very affordable (Free for children under 18 and around 9 full price). You will find on the first floor a large space dedicated to Antiquity (Egypt, Greece, Rome ...) then to the Middle Ages (Christian Europe and the Muslim East). After a good hour and a half of visit, you will go up to the second floor to access the gallery of paintings (which have nothing to envy to those of the Louvre).

The little extras: the garden located in the heart of the museum (A happiness in summer!), The accessibility of the site (just in front of the Place des Terreaux) and the presence of lockers to put down your belongings and fully enjoy the visit .

I prefer to warn you: a serious visit is relatively long (several hours) so avoid going there at the end of the afternoon and with small children.

In short: a must-see museum in Lyon, to visit at all costs if passing through!

Very nice museum but what a pity, the speaker for the guided tour of my son's class cm1 was just execrable and not at all pedagogue ... What a spoil a moment that could have been great ... Really disappointed

It's a museum of fine arts, so it's pretty by default. The permanent collection is passable but not foolish.
Temporary exhibitions and conferences are always working well.
Only downside you can not drink inside the museum.

Set in a beautiful palace with an even greater cloister-like courtyard, it boasts a huge collection of paintings, some of them famous - Monet, Manet, Renoir, Degas, Rembrandt, Rubens, van Gogh; sculptures are a main draw, also - Rodin;

Very nice collection in an old building itself of great beauty. You enter via a courtyard in the center of the building converted into a garden, very well maintained and offers a space of relaxation in the district of Terreaux. Very easy to reach thanks to the metro and C3 city hotel stop + 3min walk. Free access with the culture card

My experience: A quite intimate quiet place thanks to this garden and then we go upstairs and we discover a real beauty and magic of the arts. Only downside: the price that would allow being slightly lower to return more often. (The garden is free of charge and free of charge)

Very beautiful interior courtyard!

Very beautiful interior courtyard!
Beautiful collections, especially antiques.
The explanatory notices are sometimes sparse in information. Sometimes they are even non-existent.

One of the 5 most important museums in France, with varied collection from different eras of humanity. Furniture, sculptures, objects, archaeological finds and canvases like Renoir, Monet, Degas, Gauguin ... Very well organized.

Draping the museum's temporary exhibit was interesting but far too short with few works by the big names featured in the museum brochure. The permanent exhibition was very suitable, many interesting exhibitions but the organization of the rooms lacked consistency in the chronology.

Unbreathable zero-air customer experience and a security guard threatens you to put on your mask and throw you out or call the police for a mask under your nose. despite an application decree of non-existent state psychosis in places where personal expression must be required ... it is the end of art in France, at least in lyon. Make me public moralizing moral but I would not change my rating it's legitimate ... let us breathe and communicate

Museum in a beautiful and historic setting.

Museum in a beautiful and historic setting.
Novice and not a fan of art, I went there for my daughter and made her discover sculptures and paintings. I was not disappointed, quite the contrary. We find great names that we all heard such as Rodin, Monnet, Picasso, Renoir ...
The only problem is the large size in a rectangle and once you have started to make a floor, you have to finish. My 7 year old daughter was fed up with it after a while but we finished the round of the rectangle.
