When I went there 1975 there was a racial riot a few places got burn down including the mess hall it happen 1976 other then that I like the place the army came and I join they were people from all over the United States and they were not angel including myself I give credit to the staff they had a hard job to do . This was a start for me to grow I am 63 now and I still have the memories thank you

"NOTE job coprs I went to has changed thruout the years, call and ask before anything" Free Plane Ticket from Montrose Colorado there, and back to Benson Arizona. Lots of Great Food, friends, priveledges. all in all, there are also downfalls like Drama, and under age sex like 24 year olds having sex with 16 year old females... And that is why i stayed inside. Otherwise, awesome Campus!! They have Welding, Culinary, Computer Repair, UAW, Tile/Masornery, Facility Maintanance, Materiel Handeling, and more!, Besides the Trades, you get to do to more indeph Life activitys like Becoming Student Safety Officers, and CERT Teams, Go along ways to insure the safety, of themselves, and others around them on campus. Also Im a fully complete student, ive achived my HS Diploma and Im an A+ IT Computer Technician!.
I was there in 1982 to 1984 and that place was the best thing for me. So if you are there now, listen and you will learn a trade and how to respect yourself and others and have a great life. I know and I am 50 yrs old now the clearfield Utah Job corps did it all for me. Thanks for a great life u all gave me.
I understand this place is for troubled youth or what not however food delivery drivers dont need to be harrassed everytime we come in to deliver food the employees at the safety center are always rude and have something to say no matter who you are iv seen it manny times.
When people say ," Its what you make of it" Sometimes its hard to know , What you dont know , I graduated in 81, and Job corps is the only thing I ever graduated from , I got kicked out of school , And had troubles I was lucky i didnt go to prison, for a long time , Looking back , job corps is kind of a college experience , for the working class , There were so many things to do , I was raised in the country , and They had baseball field , swimming pool and bowling alley , basketball court , And a pretty easy study curriculum. If you want to better your life , its a good way to go , And you can meet people from all over the USA , Learnr to enjoy the people , I wish i had contact with many of them to see what happened to their life after job corps , Its a good place It gave me a mechanical education , in Automatic transmissions , Which extended itself to other areas , Its good , and you can make it good for a start point , the rest of your life ,
If you believe sexual assault is "Boys being boys" this is your school. Administrators routinely whitewash incidents, leaving victims no other choice than to drop out of the program. Before you send your kids to SLC have them read Lord of the flies as a good primer to surviving this hostile work place.
A free trade school is not worth years of therapy your kid may need in exchange...sorry but the admin at this location needs serious training.
I graduated back in September 2009 in culinary arts,t Staff their at Clearfield Job Corps were very helpful, they also helped to get my certification's as well. Also had awesome instructor's
People want to go home for some reason, it's not all that bad, people do start drama, drugs are easily accessible here which is sad, staff is ok, security couldn't bother, the culture is toxic. There are decent people though, you just gotta find your group.
Absolutely awful. I do Doordash for this place often & security is horrible. They think they have all this power just because they re a security guard for a government sponsored program. If you are a DoorDash Driver, AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS
the food is horrible, most of the staff is horrible and it s just a mess over there.. Department of Labor found many drugs and weapons on center. I wouldn t recommend to my worse enemy. Also the Automotive instructors feel that you have to beg them to teach you anything! Bob, the head guy for Automotive is a tool also, he doesn t know what s really best for you, he just want his numbers to go up... doesn t care about anyone there but him and sherry. Even instructors doesn t like him and i don t even blame any of them.. DONT GO THERE! if i can give 0 stars i would, trust me
This place is nothing like they say over the phone or to you in the interview if you like not knowing anything and being confused this the place for you. It is unorganized none of the staff can give you the same answer to the same question because most of them dont dnow the answers.
Went here 19 years ago, from October 01 till August 03. And I can say that it was one of the best experiences in my life. I took full advantage of the program and made the most of my time. Made memories and life long friends. Would HIGHLY reccomend this program to anyone.
Great place for opportunity. I just hate the racist staff there. My whole life I've never been full on called the n word or harrassed by multiple staff members. This place did set me up for a good career but living here was very difficult.
In 05 to 08 it was a great experience for me. They offer pretty much what your looking for, from a G.E.D to a high school diploma. A trade that would cost major bucks to get courses for, clothes for the trade. An allowance for whatever you choose. A gym, movie theater, rec room, game room, pool. If you choose to go, please stock up on Raman, it could save you if you miss dinner or put a couple of bucks in your pocket. And last piece is critical STAY AWAY FROM THE EGGS. They will tear your stomach up. I wish i could go back and do it again with the same people.
I wouldn't want to come here if I was you, why because the Security won't enforce any rules like no under age smoking, under age sex, etc... they won't even deal with assault and battery on a minor. And if you want to get cigarettes you have to hand some one $1.00 for one etc or collateral like your state I.D. or Driver's permit, or wait till the Walmart trips on Tues, Wednesday, or Thursday , or till you get a weekend pass that is usually put out on Sunday or Monday and get off campus on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. There's a lot of weed being smoked on campus, etc... and fights.
It was a good learning experience, but there was a lot of drama, drugs, booze and other things on center. I graduated in '14 After a few months on center there was an increase in drugs, fights, and sex. There was an outbreak of whooping cough, and they didn't send the two students who brought it on center home. Instead they let the students stay on center and infect the whole center. Wellness was really bad, I have nerve damage in my leg because of all the antibiotics they put me, wrong diagnosis for a kidney infection. Oh I can go on but I won't.
I graduated in 2014, I loved the place. It allowed me to go to DATC. I took composites. I got my diploma and they helped me get a good job. The food was great... most of the time. I wish I could still have some of that soup they made with noodles reminded me of pho. Met a lot of good people played a lot of sports. I would definitely recommend it if nothing has changed since then.
This place has changed my life for the good I went here and took the welding class and got my high school diploma I would definitely recommend job corps to anyone that would like to better there live
My sister is there it seem the staff is okay but how do they allow under age sex there and safety officers should be enforced it so that don't happen but they don't seem to care about the safe of under age students there. Anything like happens to my sister I sue the hell out them. She already feela unsafe there as it is now...
Came here before going to Excelsior Springs in late 1995. Had a great experience while here. Wish I had time to stop by and visit. Show how much of a success Job Corps made me.
This place provides amazing opportunities for so many young adults and teens that otherwise wouldn't have the opportunity to get an education and job training.
I recieved my trade, completed my general classes, got a grant from there and started at salt lake comm. College back in 97-99, and now my oldest daughter goes there, i hope she gets the same education and training that i got, as well as all the friends i made from all different cities and countries, if u pass this message along, my daughters name is Xaina Trujillo, please give her the 2nd chance that job corps gave me, open her eyes and dont give up on her, when i was down and wanted to throw it all away job corps never gave up on me nor did it turn their backs on me, im very proud of my daughter for making one of the best choices in her life
I am very thankful... It Changed my life.... I found my love "KEEP FAITH" July/6/2015....
Great program tho...gives everyone an opportunity to become something in life... I took culinary arts and welding.loved it. And u get to live and meet new people . . .multicultural
The staff here are hit or miss some are extremely helpful while others might as well be a stranger with how much they re willing to do anything that requires effort, the students here behave exactly as you d expect high schoolers to act but like staff there are well behaved and mature students mixed in with the immature ones.
If you are willing to work hard this can be a great opportunity, they offer a wide variety of trades such as culinary, computer tech, cna, uaw and a few others. Granted they are starting to rush students by cutting down the time students have to complete, therefore "working at your pace" isnt an option. Free board, free meals (can go up for 2nds or 3rds), you get 20 dollars biweekly. Theres a lot of drama, mainly revolving around relationships so if your single try to stay single, if your in a relationship off campus don't give in to the attention, you'll regret it. And there's activity that shouldn't be going on but the people who should end up getting in trouble don't, and those who shouldn't get in trouble do. Jobcorp is what you make it honestly, so no matter what others see wrong with it, however you experience jobcorp is what matters.
It's an ok place now and then food is ok. The staff here depending on who is working at the moment are cool. Dinner sucks thought. If your not a big fan of walking you will have to walk everywhere on campus.
I attended in 1999 and I'm glad it looks like things have improved. It was pretty bad back then. More like a minimum security prison than any sort of education center. I did get my HS diploma, some basic welding knowledge, and a couple of PC repair certifications. Mostly I learned that I could have gained those same skills on my own while not giving up my freedom. A couple of staff had a long term impact on me (Craig Jackson who led the high school program and Jay who taught the PC services trade), but most of them were there begrudgingly and seemed to carry hostility towards the students. The food was awful and they had 6+ people to a room. There was no privacy, no freedom of movement. That was a very long time ago, though.
Graduated in 2000! Great experience, it's what you make of it like anywhere else in life, if you want booze and drugs it's there, if you want to better your life and build some structure it's also there, it comes down to a choice. Good luck!
If it weren't for clearfield job corps I wouldn't have my first career as a cnc machinist operator. I had great times here in this job corps site, made good friends and connections. If you ask me, going through job corps is easier then being in the military. I've completed basic training in fort Benning Georgia and went to fort Polk Louisiana for my first duty station; I cant wait to get out switch to national guard coming back to Utah
Job Corps has been a great experience for me so far. I love the way they do things and I love the general place. Where it's located is great also because i am able to look out and see the beautiful mountains within a couple miles. The food is good and the trades are a great opportunity to get yourself ready and prepared for your job and career. The campus also provides you with an education to which you have the opportunity to finish up your high school. Overall, Job Corps is a great place to go.
Excellent Trade School to Attend to Great Learning Resources that Help You Learn Gain Grow in Life The School Administration are Very Kind, Loving and Giving on Top of Seriousness when it comes to Teaching You Can tell its No Joke Being Apart of The Clearfield Job Corps Administration Team I Give Much Respect to all Them When it Comes to Working for Job Corps I have Nothing but Good Recommendations on Anyone Goin in for Them
I was there in 2003 and i recieved my GED in only 3 months of being there and met alot of good people and even ran into some hometown friends from missouri. Miss the landscaping trade. In two weeks my instructor gave me a outstanding compliment about my work.
The Job Corps program is at best a mediocre program. The education given in the high school would not pass the standards of any high school that I know of. The Office Administration program, if they still call it that, is something that anyone who has tinkered with any of the Microsoft Office programs would have figured out by themselves. The administration is woefully disorganized. Security is nonexistent. Fighting back in self defense is grounds for termination. The reason that my review is not one star is because the living arrangements are nicer than other places I have seen, and the residential advisers are actually decent people. I do not recommend this for anyone who has another option.
It helped me realize what was important in my life. I graduated in 94 with my G.E.D and a trade. I met some really awesome friends who I am still in contact today with. Now my daughter is going there.
I haven't been on center since March 2020, but I gave it 4 stars because staff don't pay much attention to the students they NEED to pay attention to, so sh*t happens that never should. There was also a lot of students, so things take forever and meals are crowded, etc. Otherwise, I love being in advanced diesel and my instructors are mostly awesome. Job corps is what you make it.
Thanks to this place i became the experience chef i am now.. this place offers an opportunity to become someone in life its how you choose to partake an use this opportunity is all up to the individual...
Attended there in 1979 .Never forgot my place there was in Ranger dorm under the direction of Moe Waktkins Clearfeild taught me how to be a man Thank You
I've been here for only a few months and i plan on being here for much longer i feel i am treated with respect here and i feel that the staff honestly cares about me and my success here after i left my traditional high school i thought i was done and job corps gave me another option and ever sense i came here i've worked my very hardest and it shows in my out come thanks to job corps i was able to get my high school education and my C.N.A. this has been one of the best choices i've ever made in my life and i hope more people come and experience what i have
I am a former student of job corpse. And I know a lot of people speak poorly about this facility however I have nothing bad to say about anything or anyone on this campus. Everything is absolutely amazing from the food to the staff to the students it really falls on you about how you make job corpse there are plenty of things to do on campus even though they may seem repetitive there's a pool hall or regular pool a game on they have a tennis court a really really huge gym and monthly trips anywhere I attended a trip to Yellowstone Park going across Idaho Wyoming and I've been in many different associations such as student government. The first annual Color Run was absolutely amazing we did a two-mile walk through out the campus and the staff members through colored powder on us we threw parties where we had no food no alcohol and no marijuana and still got super lit I definitely enjoyed this place and even though I'm going through an appeal to get back to campus right now I still plan on going back and doing the exact same things that I was doing before the policy for drug use is amazing and it's very nice tolerable I did not use when I got up there however I had too much marijuana in my system to pass my second drug test I definitely believe that that policy should be changed because a lot of the students that attend Job Corps will not be able to pass a drug test that is probably the only thing that is bad about this location and job corpse in general however life is what you make it and job course is only what you make it I enjoyed my time and I cannot wait to return
I attended in 1995 and it was thee best experience in my life I completed 2 trades and also worked in orientation as a big sister . I was nominated twice for student of the month actually got it the first nomination .. The work ethic I learned at Clearfield has always been how ive prided myself all these years .. My experience at Clearfield taught me how to be a strong leader .. Ive have always been positive due to my experience at Clearfield I also to drivers Ed and gained my first license at this center.. I will never forget my experience and have nothing negitive to say about this campus you get what you put in ...
To get a staff to take you seriously, mention "ASAP" , when leaving a voice message. Afterwards, be as vilgelant as can be for them to work with you.
Racist and unprofessional staff; especially towards Native Americans. Very appalled at the treatment I received.
After three months of trying to get a hold of the warehouse and other departments, I've FINALLY found the loophole of saying ASAP on their voice machine. Even with this help, I still hope they get sued one of these days.
I'm on 1984 to 1986 get my GED and Mechanic Also made lots friend . Right now work same job take care my family.. Wish all of you at job corps clear Field Utah get up over new life. . Thank alot at there. I missing there. Ps kham phan quach. This is my name
Honestly, this place has changed who I am a lot. I learned computer repair here, but I also learned to not expect anything helpful from any management here, a lot of the staff try their hardest while their managers overwork them, don't train them, and in a whole don't care about the human condition around here. I knew many students who didn't get their training because the staff took their opportunity away due to just pure cruelty. I haven't got a dental appointment the whole time I've been here, despite asking multiple times. I'm glad that I'm getting to move on from this place soon, but if I knew about the condition of this campus before I came, I would have bought a plane ticket to go to another center. If you're concidering coming to this campus just because it's bigger than most in the US, or because it has more trades than other centers, don't. I've been here a year and a month and I wouldn't want anyone I cared about to be treated like this because this place breaks more people than it makes. Honestly, don't come here.
I've been in job corps for a year and it really isn't bad. I've been involved in different groups and was able to speak to many people off center about my experience before and while in job corps. This place is what you make it. I came for my education and that's exactly what I'm focusing on. I got all my certifications in welding and I also got my high school diploma. Now I'm studying at DATC and it's really a good opportunity! Job Corps really helped me move in a good direction.
I love everything about this place. I was a student here and there were many benefits to my life from having a Job Corp experience. If you are looking for an education and field trips (to a hot spring for example) a full facility gym, theater, gaming rooms etc. And if you are 16-24 of age come and join Clearfield Job Corp. I'm pretty sure you will love it too. ( Side note) The only ones who do not have a good experience are those who stir up trouble(smoking weed drinking fighting) and don't want to listen to the staff
It amazes me how long it takes for security to check the kids out of campus. I can see thorough searches to keep unwanted stuff out of the facility, but what are they trying to keep in!! The kids there get good educational help, but I think it is WAY too close to prison life and at times stunts the educational growth of those attending. Especially when a student gets a teacher who drives on about his own life, rather than teach material that is relevant, and then had the nerve to write up students who are coming out or aren't listening. There really needs to be some state educational oversight at this place to make it a better educational experience.
I was attending in May and had to leave because of my son. They told me that they would be accommodating and would actually help. But when that time came they had switched my counselor from one lady to another name Betty. Ms. Betty needs to be retired or let go. She can BARELY hear you when you go to her for something important or have your monthly evaluation. On top of, I found out that I could've been a bereavement leave, she didn't even attempt to let me know anything about it. I found out after the three days were up that she could've done that and I could've finished as I planned and prayed to. Nor did she follow up as she was supposed to. I literally was top and ahead of my class and was about to start my Welding training that following week. I strongly believe if I had a better and more informed counsel that I would've have finished. Because the program is great it's just the people employed there. Also had one of the security guards going with the cafeteria manager who recently had gotten divorced. I just wish I had've had someone else who was more informed and not as elderly.
Job corps is a really great place to make friends just make sure you make the right ones. I think the cafeteria food tastes ok, after all, it's free food and free drinks. Staff are great and are here when you need them. If you are need of help there are counselors here for you. I recommend people to go to Jobcorps because you get free education and quicker than public schools if you are a hard worker. There is also free Colledge and free training for the job you want in your future career.
I had a decent experience at first but the high school program there is terrible. There are very few teachers who are there to help. My trade teachers where good. There's has been a lot of heroin and meth being brought on that center when I left. Campus safety is of no help and there is a lot of 24 Y/O male students dating 16 Y/O female students. I would recommend another center. I started in the beginning of 2017 and was there till the end of 2017. But it always is what you make it.
Wow! What an experience! I had gone to it and completed it in 2005. As an alum, I must say that it is the best experience that I could have ever have been through. My instructors at the time were top notch people with in depth knowledge about each of their subjects which were Advanced Computer Repair and Copper Cable Installation. I was also the first person to fast track through the program and completed both with certificates within 7 months. Thank you Mr. Jaylor Bindrup for such a great learning experience.
Overall this is a good program. There's some students that come here and waste time and others that do take advantage of the program. Some instructors don't want to see the students succeed and others truly care about their students. My husband and I attended this school in 2017 and he received his high school diploma here, he started the after school tutoring program here with the help of Mr. Randall Anderson . If you come to job corps with your significant other just know some instructors dont like to see happy couples and they don't like to see them succeed. Not all instructors are like this it's just something you should be aware of. I came here and got my CNA certification. Thanks to this program I realized I wanted to go back to school and get a better education. I am currently attending a nursing program and will be graduating in May next year. I just want to tell those who plan to attend here to focus on their education and don't waste your time fooling around. They offer work on campus and they also give you a biweekly allowance to help out with whatever you need to buy. If you dont want to work on campus you can get a job off campus. They also have advanced training, for those that dont mind being away from home and their loved ones you should take advantage of this. (I'm saying this because I m in nursing school and it is not cheap, job corps offers an LPN program for free).
2020 Update: I am now a nurse in the state of California. My husband is a full-time college student he is majoring in Diagnostic Radiology. It all started with the help of Job Corps.
I recently graduated and honestly this program is great. If you are there for the right reasons trying to make your life better, and not do stupid things like (drugs, drama, boys) then you ll make it. The food is alright, the staff is decent and the trades are good. You get out what you put in.
Free training, free food, free roof, free clothes. Hard to beat. But it wears you down. Going to trade from 8 to 4 everyday. Doing the same thing everyday. The food was good when I first got here. The haven't changed anything. I've been here 6 months and it's just rotating menus. The dorms are hit and miss. If you have an RA you don't dream about kicking into traffic you're lucky, even luckier if you have roommates you can tolerate. Or you might be me, still up at 11pm because your roommate can't be quiet when he's watching crap on YouTube. The 46 bucks a month doesn't make it worth it to be here. This is a closed campus. You can't leave at the end of the trade day. You can only leave Friday, Saturday and Sunday. If you come back for any reason you can't leave again until the next Friday. Bring your own blankets and for Buddha's sake bring your own pillows, you're going to be sleeping on a mattress directly on the springs. Twin Size. Some of the staff are alright, they genuinely care and understand that it sucks here and try not to make our time harder. Others... See us as annoying obstacles who can't behave. They don't understand the stress this place places on us. They don't think about the fact that we can't go home at the end of the day, they can do whatever they want at the end of the day. They haven't eaten the same food for the past 6 months (or in automotive's case 2 1/2 years). They lack empathy and basic decency. And they suck at what they do. I've also noticed sexism here. Mostly in the older staff, very preferable to women, it's funny when it happens to me because it's never anything to big. Like an instructor having a 20 minute conversation with me and my female friend but only acknowledging me twice and staring at her the whole time. It's still jarring when I feel like I'm less than someone else though. Especially so blatantly. But I can still enjoy it because it's nothing serious. You should keep that in mind though. The first 5 weeks you're here you won't be going into your trade. And on the 4th week you're on Kitchen Prep cleaning their kitchen. And no you're not getting paid. And yes it is mandatory. Keep that in mind as well. I know I've only said bad things but this is still an amazing opportunity like I said in the beginning. It just REALLY falls on you to make the most of it. If you can deal with all that for some free education this is the place for you.
Attended in 1996. AWFUL! Full of gangs, thiefs, violent offenders, all the criminals with the choice to either go to jail, or here. Worst counsellors ever! They control what you wear, who you call, where you go...pile of GARBAGE in Davis county Utah.
Not the place for me. After 2 weeks of being there, it was like jail: they wake you up at 6:00am and you have to walk 2 blocks just to go to class. After a month of being there I got so home sick, I just left the program. Like I said: not the place for me.
This place offers free education, something that is extremely rare in the time we live in. So ya the food might not be the best there is and the people you go to school with might not be all that and a bag of kittens but you still make great friends and nothing will ever beat free education.
