The people at the angel Memorial Hospital at MSPCA I truly amazing people. There also so many beautiful animals waiting to be adopted. Before you get a pet stop by the animal shelter and see if you can save a life and get the pet of your life at the same time

Absolutely fabulous facility! ... and was completely surprised that the small tissue specialist, Dr. Pavletic, greeted me personally in the waiting room... He is an absolutely outstanding individual who is extremely knowledgeable, very laid-back and very user-friendly... I cannot recommend either the MSPCA or the doctor High Enough!! ... bring your pets to the MSPCA in Jamaica Plain, you will not be disappointed and you will be very happy because they treat the animals like one of their own

This facility and the people are wonderful. They are absolutely the most professional and caring people I have encountered with my pets. We have brought our dog here for medical treatment and we have also adopted. Great people!

They are the wrost! We made a mistake of bringing our cat to them. Within a week they killed her. They claimed that she was too sick. You should've contact us to let us know and we would take care of it.

Located just off the Jamaicaway, this animal shelter can be a great place to let off some steam during the evening commute. There is no donation required to meet and pet the homeless cats and dogs, and they appreciate the opportunity to socialize. Someone here is guaranteed to touch your heart - why not get out of traffic and maybe meet a new friend?

So my puppy jumped down from the sofa and got caught on my mother s charger causing him to loose balance on the ground. He looked like he might have broken his leg he was limping and just walking differently. So I do not live in Boston and I had just finished working a 12 shirt and had just gotten home. We got there. We called before hand EXPLAINING HE MIGHT HAVE BROKEN HIS LEG. They told us to come in they can t do anything. So we come in pay $150 for him to be seen. Like a hour and a half later he s seen. The women looks at him walk saying he looks fine. We are stating to her he s not putting as much oressure in his leg like he usually does when he walks and plays ( my puppy is a tough one he was trying to play after but we weren t having it till we knew what was going on). So then she suggest X-rays for 233 dollars and pain medicine for the momen which was like $40 in its own. So it s now 1 something in the morning I came around 10:40. VERY SLOW. The women seen us for like 10 min and I spent 2 hours for NOTHING. She told us to come tomorrow for the X-rays. She said they are very understaffed and the people she were there are not very experienced taking a x-ray of a dog nor diagnosing them. So to me it s like I CAME TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM PAYED 190 dollars to been seen to say I have to come to morrow because no one there is QUALIFIED FOR X-RAYS. Mind you I could have saved my 150 by coming in the next day instead of going into the emergency room leaving with no results. If the women on the phone HAD TOLD US NO ONE THERE IS QUALIFED ON X-RAYS I WOULD HAVE WAITED TILL TOMORROW. Your dog can be dying and you ll be waiting 5 hours with no one even in the waiting room besides you and ONE OTHER PERSON

Last night I went there to the Emergency Clinic and unfortunately had to put my 5 year old kitty who had an obstructed urethra tract down for being short money wise for treatment, and not only did I have to grieve... I have received more empathy from racist cops than these people. I had a doctor continue to talk money over the sounds of me have multiple panic attacks at the news of euthanasia. A staff member not tell me all of my options for planning for his death because some options make the facility uncomfortable despite them offering it, she gave me the 2 options of donating him, or general cremation. I knew all of the options because my gf had a kitten with fip and we were there a couple months ago to euthanize... But, anyway when I asked questions about it, I was then asked if I would like to speak to her supervisor if I wasn t understanding what she was offering. I understood, I just thought sure maybe the supervisor has more empathy and can understand that this is a tough situation and all the money talk was literally freaking me out when my cat was about to pass away, nope, the staff member went out there and told the supervisor that my girlfriend and I verbally attacked her, probably thought we were trying to get her in trouble rather an accommodation, so the supervisor came in lacking more empathy than the staff member and immediately backed up her staff... all of that took place BEFORE I even put my sweet boy down, and that was a whole new emotional realm. I took him home. I would give 0 stars if I could. I would NEVER go to this place again even if I was paid to. MSPCA STAFF: Sorry you see it all day long and you re desensitized... but I lost my best friend last night and you guys were effing A-holes!

I built a large and well ventilated bin cage for a hamster, as recommended by many online forums and hamster lovers that I know. I was not allowed to adopt a hamster from here bc I apparently need to have a store bought wire cage similar to the ones they have at the shelter (which are incredibly small and not good for hamsters). A disappointment and a waste of my time.

This hospital is one of the greatest pet hospital I've been to. My dog ate rat poison this summer and I brought her in within the hour and they took her in immediately. They took such good care of her I'm still so grateful for their hard work and dedication for the animals. They updated me everyday with text messages, which I thought was really nice. I thought I was going to lose my furbaby but they did everything possible to keep fighting for her and she's still alive. Thank you to Dr. Lathroum, Dr. Whelan, Dr. Richardson, Dr. Brum, and the nurses that were watching my baby while she was hospitalized for 2 whole weeks. Thank you so much. She's alive because of you.

I adopted a wonderful older dog named Wiro from the MSPCA almost two years ago. The MSPCA staff were extremely kind and patient. Their adoptions at the time were first come first serve (for the most part). I purchased a dog training package when I adopted him, but wound up not being a good fit for the classes. The MSPCA gave me refund for the classes which was amazing and unexpected.

Around a year later, Wiro had developed some irritation and swelling in one eye which turned out to be pink eye. We had an emergency vet visit at the MSPCA because nothing else was open. The vet we saw was gentle and took care of us despite him being reactive and gave us medicine to help his anxiety for future visits. The emergency visit was reasonably priced and I'd definitely visit again if I needed to. I'm so grateful we have the MSPCA.

I love the MSPCA, everyone who works their genuinely cares and wants to help. Thank you MSPCA!

Both my dogs have had major surgery here in the past year. The quality of care is unparalleled, including care for the "parents" with updates and photos. It's a fabulous resource and we are lucky to have it nearby.

The ONLY reason this place deserves a single star ...

The ONLY reason this place deserves a single star is because the ER doctor (who I can't remember the name of, unfortunately) was the one kind person I talked to at MSPCA's Angell Memorial Medical center. I am completely understanding of hospitals being busy and things being delayed and chaotic due to COVID (and general ER craziness, I work at an ER vet clinic myself), but my experience at Angell last night was beyond horrific.

I had called ahead with my 11 week old rabbit who had an open wound to let the hospital know I was on my way and hopefully make things easier (getting screening questions out of the way, etc). It took FOUR attempts to even get an answer from the front desk on the phone, and when I did the staff was short with me. Upon arrival, I had to pay the ER exam fee upfront before they even took my rabbit into the building. Annoying, but not the end of the world. I explained that while she wasn't bleeding heavily still, my rabbit still had an open wound and has lost a decent amount of blood - I was told a technician would bring her in right away, but waited outside with her for almost 40 minutes. No official triage was done, and getting even basic updates telling me my pet was stable was near impossible. At one point when I tried asking an employee that came outside for an update, explaining that I had just called multiple times and nobody is picking up the phone, the employee YELLED AT ME and even cursed loudly on her way back into the building. After a 4 HOUR wait, the doctor called me and said she hadn't examined my rabbit yet, but she was stable. We went over history and she said she'd preform her exam and call me right back to go over treatment options. I waited an hour and a half and got no call back. At this point I had consulted other animal hospitals and decided to take her elsewhere. Even that took 40 minutes - just to scoop her up and walk her to the door. The overnight team was much more polite than the day/evening staff, so I have no quarrel with them. Overall I am disgusted that my rabbit was IN PAIN and was at Angell from 7:20pm-12:45am and received NO treatment, and I still paid $180. Absolute rip off and total lack of professionalism - and I will go ANYWHERE else for my animal emergencies moving forward and advise the same to anyone who will ask.

Came here for a male rabbit to bond with our female. They cared a lot about the rabbits and made steps to investigate if he was going to a good home. They helped facilitate a date between the rabbits. They have even offered to cut our rabbit's nails at no charge.

MSPCA is the worst. I have never felt so invisible in my life. I was given an application, filled out the questionnaire about my cat, the employee took it, and my ID. Once she made a copy of my ID, she took my cat in the back room and I was dismissed. Not once did this woman ask me why I was giving up my cat, she never inquired about my cat's quirks, habits, diets or fears. She didn't even let me say good-bye. Giving up my cat was emotional enough but to be dismissed on top of it was cruel. I asked for my carrier and the same employee (Sandra, I think that was her name cuz she never introduced herself or said hello) seem annoyed. If they treat me like that I can't imagine how they are going to treat my cat. My biggest regret is not going to Animal Rescue League instead. Maybe Sandra was working on commission and needed my cat to make her rescue quota. If you love your pet and have to surrender it, go some where else.

I love this place! Truly the best medical care an animal can get! Wonderful adoption counseling, as well.

For clarification: The MSPCA (Massachusetts Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) is the over-arching organization responsible for animal cruelty prevention, adoption/surrender counseling, affordable spay/neuter programs, etc. The Angell Animal Medical Center is contained in the same building as the shelter, and encompasses the hospital referral departments (critical care unit, radiology, surgery, behavior, dentistry, etc.). Essentially, the MSPCA and Angell are the same entity, working side-by-side to improve the lives of animals in our community.

The quality of service is exceptional....and you surely pay for it! Very expensive....but you get what you pay for.
I had to wait 3 hours (literally) at the ER on a Saturday....a really long time when your pet is suffering and you're anxious too.
That said, the care thereafter was worth the wait. The vet explained things very clearly and was incredibly patient with my litany of questions.
Most of the staff were super nice.
They have a program to help those who qualify (as low-income), for inpatient stays (only) up to $1,000....so if you're in this predicament, be sure to look into this support.

There are not very many animals here usually which I think is probably a good sign. They all seem well cared for. I usually just stop in to say hi to the dogs and cats and get my fur friend fix in. They will discount the adoption for senior animals.

Really friendly staff and they do the best to get their pets a forever home quickly! I don't see the same animals again and again when I visit so that's means they're getting adopted :) . I usually just go here to pick up hay and other supplies for my rescue guinea pigs.

The respect, empathy, care, and patience we got from the vet and staff was world class.

Sparky went out with comfort and dignity and I'm very grateful for the MSPCA and their role in it.

After coming from a disastrous animal shelter in a different area my family and I decided to check this one out. We came in and quickly separated. We checked out animals we weren't going to get, then we met up at the cat section. We looked around my mom fell for the gray kitten but my sis and I warmed up to the adult cat. She was older and so cute, anyways I wanted her. So I went up to the desk and gotten information on her things was going good until she asked about animals I have. I told her guinea pigs and she was fine with that then she asked did I have cats I said I did. (My lil man passed away last year and I'm still mourning him) she kept prying into that asking did I bring him here to die...first off it doesn't matter if I brought him there ( I found him dead on my couch and I brought him to shelter to have his ashes spread on grave site) but I didn't disclose all of that. I didn't want to talk about it she was insensitive but she was nice at the same time. But I feel if our animals passed on then she shouldn't keep talking about it. It's too much for me to handle. That's the only issue I have with them, they should be aware that people don't want to keep talking about stuff like that. But overall she was nice and they was open to us adopting her.

Angell Animal Medical Center is one of the primer animal hospitals in the Boston area. I think we are lucky to live in this area to have access to these great hospitals for our pets. The staff is so professional and caring for both our pets and ourselves. We went through several months of radiation treatment and they just made us feel so relaxed that our dog was in the best hands.
I wish I could be a patient there.
