This is one of few "French" restaurants that I've been to in Los Angeles. I haven't been to any that I thought was really outstanding yet, and Morel's didn't do me much good in that department. Being a steakhouse, I had their specialty steak frites entree, along with raw oysters and fondue. The steak was grilled pretty standarly yet still had decent taste, although the whole wad of butter placed on top of it made the richness kind of overwhelming at times. The fries that came with it were always limp when I ordered it. As for the oysters, they were fairly good. But then again, I tasted the same stuff in all-you-can-eat restaurants like Todai.
Overall, their food is serviceably good, and nothing much more. It's not a 5 star out-of-this-world cuisine, that's for sure. I guess it's good for the tourists and other customers who come to the Grove and need a place to eat for convenience. The positives are that the ambience is pretty nice, it's spacious, and it's good for groups

The food was alright. The service and the managers are horrible. Apparently they have an hour and a half policy where they kick you out afterwards. Was trying to order desert, but the manager made my family and I leave as they had paying customers waiting to order dinner. I have never been more insulted in my life with the way we were treated after giving this place upwards of $300 for a meal. Will never come back here again.

We decided to sit outside and within 5 minutes the heater had been lit, the children had an activity sheet, and we had water and bread. However, after asking for a particular beer the waiter came back to inform us they were out of that beer. Then the children's burger with apple sauce had sliced apple but no sauce. We questioned the waiter and when he returned he said they were out of apple sauce. Lastly, we were charged two kids meals when in fact it was Thursday and we had met the requirement of eating an entree so once again we had to question the waiter. The food was okay but the price we paid for an entree, two wines and two mains wasn't worth it given the issues we encountered.

I've had some great evenings here. Usually keep it simple with a steak and frites and a glass of red. Right next to the Grove fountain if you like to people watch.

I had the ribeye and found it to be fatty and a bit tough, but better than a steak from Sizzlers. I had much better at Taylors. It was overpriced, but that may have been the location.

The other night, I had dinner at Morel's French Steakhouse & Bistro hoping for a pleasurable steak experience, and indeed there was pleasure...from the calamari, that is, not the steak.
For my meal, I ordered the filet mignon with a side of mashed potatoes and a side salad; for the appetizer, I ordered the calamari.
When I first got the calamari, it was simply delicious. The squid was tender and not chewy, the batter coating was crisp, well-seasoned and not heavy. The sauce it came with was sweet, tangy and added to the squid's flavor instead of overpowering it.
With a well-served appetizer, I was hoping for a real treat with the main course - the filet mignon. Instead, what I ended up with was just a tray of disappointments.
Starting with the sides, the mashed potatoes were over-salted, heavy and greasy; with no garnish and boorish presentation, it looked like it belonged on a TV tray dinner.
The side salad was an absolute joke. There were no cherry tomatoes, no carrots, no cucumbers...there was nothing except just spring mix greens with some cheap store-bought dressing. Not even any croutons SMH.
The steak...well...what can I say about the steak? I ordered the filet mignon MEDIUM RARE, but the first time they served it to me, it was medium well. I sent it back asking for another steak, this time cooked the way I asked. What I got instead was RARE. After a failed second attempt and an excuse by the server as to why the cooks are unable to cook a proper steak the way it was ordered, I simply accepted my rare steak since I didn't mind my steaks on the rare side anyway (I at least prefer them more rare than well).
Overall, including tip, the meal set me back a little over $98, which is incredibly pricey. Keep in mind though that I left a very good tip because the service was very friendly and helpful.
Would I come back to Morel's French Steakhouse? Probably not, since even after giving them a second chance to cook my steak right, they failed to hit the mark. But if you're in the mood for some fried squid, you should check out this restaurant; the calamari is marked up fairly high, but it's almost worth it.

I was invited to a birthday party and was surprised how low quality of food and service it was. I was in their other place and it was fantastic, but this one, wow. They are lucky that they are in business because of the tourists.

This is such a nice location to sit and people watch. It is a bit pricey, but I really enjoyed the cheese menu and being able to mix and match them along with a nice glass of wine. Read less

Horrible. Ordered well done burgers, came out raw, more than once this has happened yet I got billed for a portion of the bill. They are unable to make a well done burger. Never going there again. The manager told me next time tell me about your order, really I have to skip the waiter and ask for the manager to place an order ?
I don't think so, save your money don't order well done food.

Everything on the menu is bad, except the chicken soup. 5PM dinner did not have air conditioning on until 6PM on Saturday night, outside 95F. How about serving coffee without cream and sugar, we had to wait one hour for the cream. I think I would have gotten a cow and milk her way way before the server showed up with non fat milk.
When I went downstairs and saw that waiters are taking their food to the second floor using the same elevator, where the sick people who have cold are sneeze right into the uncovered food plates, I said to my self, I have had it.

Service and food preparation here is a joke. I asked for a med rare steak and got a spare tire on my plate. Manager insisted to redo the order and wait for another 35 min. I said no and an argument broke out, sure enough to save embarrasement on my first date I had to cave in. My first and last. This happened a few months ago.

Worst food ever, old smelly and rotten mussels. Although the sign said kids eat free on Saturday i still got the full bill. So to summarize, got chitted on my bill, didn't enjoy my food, and finally got the worst stomachache ever.

I finally got a chance to dine here during The Grove's Tree Lighting this year.
I love the ambiance & location!
It's a perfect place for date night or get together with friends.
I was disappointed with the service that night. Our server was all over the place. She kept forgetting everything including our waters, wine & appetizer which we expected to come first.
The food was mediocre. I enjoyed the charcutterie board & the pasta dish that my sister had.
I had to send back my steak since it was overcooked. Luckily they had a extra medium rare made so I got my food within a few mins.
Our party had a great time minus the service. Hopefully servers get it together because I'd like to return to this restaurant.

Worse service I've ever had, worst dinner meal from out I've had in a long time. I was ignored ever time the server came around, and the food was absolutely disgusting. Seriously, I couldn't wait to get out of there.

What! I have no idea why this is getting such low ratings! The food was fabulous, especially the onion rings! And I always love bread for an appetizer with homemade butter and some other thing that was like balsamic vinegar or something! But it was so yummy! Definetely going there again.
