It's truly a lovely place but it's extremely over priced. We had endless trouble with our bills in a group reservation that almost ruined the experience for my eldest daughter.
The food is great and very plentiful. There are lots of great included activities. It's A LOT less formal than what I remembered from my last visit, to the point where it does not even feel special anymore.

Mohonk is a great resort for either a day pass or as an overnight guest. Although it is a bit pricey the expansive grounds provide a great array of activities from ice skating to horseback riding. The breakfast and lunch buffets are great and will find you wishing you had a bigger stomach and the dinners are often creative treats.

We love Mohonk. Every summer my wife and I take a weekend away from the kids (5 of them!) and recharge at Mohonk. The staff is friendly and accommodating, and there's a wonderful range of things to do including boating (kayak, canoe, paddleboard, rowboat), swimming, hiking and many other options. Or you can sit and enjoy the beautiful grounds, read a book looking out at the lake... very peaceful. It is an older facility, but they take good care of it. The one time we had an issue with AC in our room, they sent someone up with a window unit and 20 minutes later we were comfortable again. It's not cheap - but the food is excellent, the staff wonderful, and the grounds are spectacular. It's worth the money.

An amazing, enchanting place. This place is a mountaintop castle like hotel with incredible attention to detail. Gorgeous views and no shortage of things to do. Food is fantastic. It's mind boggling how such a place was built nearly a hundred years ago.

For those looking to enjoy Mohonk Mountain House for the day (not overnight guest) day reservations (includes lunch) are required. Ate at The Granary (outdoor BBQ) which was about $65/pp, which included tip/admin fee. The buffet indoors is more. This includes access to the grounds. Hiking was spectacular. Very scenic, views are incredible. Lots of nature. Food was great. Tea time and cookies at 4pm is a great way to end the day. If you are hiking bring necessary items (e.g. water.) Lots of different trails to hike, a favorite is "the lemon squeeze" which consists of hiking and climbing rocks, as well as, going through small areas and hard to get areas to reach Sky Top. Conditions need to be perfect to do that. You can still reach Sky Top with other trails, though. Parking is very close to hotel. If you're looking just to hike and don't want to eat or access the hotel, they charge a fee of about $30/pp and you'll have to park at the bottom and hike up the mountain (about 2 miles) to begin.

Kind service; peaceful surroundings; chance to unplug and re-charge. This was our first visit, and if we are fortunate, it will likely not be our last. If you are seeking comfort, stunning views, caring hosts and smiling staff that is striving to lighten your burdens while facing the same challenges as the rest of us these days, then this is the place to visit. Rocking in the chairs on the balcony will linger in our memories and beckon us to return.

Beautiful resort right on the water. Free kayak/canoe rental is great for afternoon activities. Excellent tennis facilities, during the summer season there is a teaching pro as well as a ball machine, at very reasonable rates. It was my first time with the ball machine and I had no idea how much fun it was.

God's country.
Beautiful gardens, away from the city.
Plus A lavish buffet prepared by CIA trained staff .
The meal will be remembered long after the price has been paid.

Ok so - I've been going here (infrequently) since I was a kid. Mohonk is legendary. Built in the 1800's it has very few comparable resorts. Amenities are insane. Style, charm, the amazing service, the mountain house itself are all exceptional. Food is another plus - the food has always been extremely good - chefs all kill it. It's an all-inclusive property. Recommended for special occasions. It's very expensive but you get what you pay for - a unique on our planet experience.

My fiance (now wife) booked us this trip for our honeymoon. We were so excited to come to Mohonk because we heard such amazing reviews. When we pulled up to the front doors, the employees took our luggage and said they would bring them up to our room; however, our bags were not brought to our room. We even tipped the staff for taking our bags when we got out of the car, and after 1 hour, our bags were still sitting at the front doors.

When we checked in, they acknowledged that we were on our honeymoon, but the hotel had no interest in giving us a simple upgrade, bottle of champagne, or even a complimentary drink in celebration of our honeymoon. Something that just about any decent hotel would do.

The first thing we wanted to do was go fishing, something the two of us really enjoy. We rented poles for $15, grabbed a boat, and paddled out halfway across the lake. We had several issues with the fishing pole due to it not being properly rigged which meant I had to paddle back in and out several times. This became such a hassle that we returned the poles and gave up. Thankfully, we did receive a refund for the fishing poles. Still, an activity that we looked forward to doing was ruined.

There were many other issues throughout the trip, but the bottom line is that the service was just subpar for a luxury hotel. Adding insult to injury, the safety rules are so over the top. The fact that we could not sit on the beach without a mask on is ridiculous in my opinion. You pretty much can't do anything outdoors without a mask on which is above and beyond NYS law. After 9pm, there is absolutely nothing to do in the hotel due to things being shut down for safety reasons. The entire experience was just awkward/uncomfortable.

The one positive was that the food was good. The one and only thing we liked. We enjoyed all of our meals, but was certainly not the purpose of our trip.

We were so unhappy that we cut our honeymoon short. We were originally going to stay for four nights, but ended up staying for 2. We were ready to leave after just a few hours there, but wanted to give it a chance. I actually wish we had just left right away. Very sad that such a special time in our lives became such a terrible experience.

Paid approximately 1k a night for a very small room overlooking a parking lot. Property needs updating. Dinner is in a dingy food hall. Stay away. The magazines are lying when they say this place is a top pick.

Very very relaxing. It's like going back in time, the air is clean, the water is clear and the service is friendly and as natural as the views. Superbly maintained historic building and grounds. This place is a must.

Admittedly there is no getting over the fact that this is an expensive place to stay, despite everything that's included but there is a magic to it that's hard to replicate anywhere else. It is incredibly peaceful, even when it's busy as there are so many nooks and crannys to hide in. The facilities are great, staff friendly and helpful and the breakfast and lunch (at the granary) are amazing. Highly recommended for anyone wanting a break for the hustle and bustle of the city.

Lovely mountain house with many outdoor activities such as hiking, horse back riding, and swimming. Great food that is included in the room rate. Upscale spa with outdoor hot tub. They also have an indoor pool for colder months.

What to know: Mohonk, a Victorian castle resort on the Shawangunk Ridge in Ulster County, has endless vistas around its lake. On a clear day, the myth goes that you can see four states from Skytop Tower, where the top of the preserve is aligned with the clouds.

How to Get There: The easiest way to get here is to take the train to Poughkeepsie, which is about 20 minutes from the New Paltz area (calling a local cab company to the hotel is ideal).

What to Do: The two-story historic home has 600 rocking chairs, so you can ease into your day by looking at the tranquil lake slowly filling with kayaks. Alternatively, wander through the lush French gardens bursting with summer blooms, including its rose garden. This year s summer floral exhibit, Under the Sea , uses aquatic motifs that you can soak in with a pair of capable legs and truly breathe the mountain air. Stay in the new Grove Lodge, the Mountain House s first new accommodations in more than 100 years.

What a lovely place to stay any time of the year. There is aiways something planned on the activities schedule. Throughout the day. Yoga, exercise etc. Meals are something you have to experience 1sr hand for yourself. They are absolutely fabulous. There isn't anything that you can't find to please your palate. This weekend's special program was called Jazz on the Mountain. All weekend long throughout the day we were entertained. They have a library. Heated swimming pool, cross country skiing,An Ice skating rink. Their spa is just fabulous. Massage, facials. sauna, hot tub. What's not to love. You can check out more information on line. Don't pass this wonderful resort up.

The service at Mohonk was amazing. While the house itself is a bit on the creepy side, the grounds are beautiful, and there is an undeniable comfort once you remove yourself from the ties of the modern world we live in today. I would recommend.

Beautiful complex that is surrounded by breathtaking views. According to the manager, Mohonk means "lake in the sky", which is a fitting name for the natural body of water that one the top of this mountain. They offer a variety of services and activities.

It was my dream to visit this place. We didn't stay at the resort and there were no more spots for lunch reservations. So, the other option to visit Mohonk is through a Hiking Pass which costs $ 22 (weekdays) and $ 27 (weekends) per person. The pass does not give access to the resort premises and you have to bring water and something to eat. In addition, anyone who buys the Hiking pass must leave the car parked at the first entrance of the mountain. From there to the resort, you will walk almost an hour (it is so far). With the Hiking Pass, you are free to explore the area around the resort, which has a sensational view! There are also public restrooms. We only did one trail, but there are others there are over 100 miles of trails in the resort area!

One of the most beautiful hotels I have ever been to. Great place to go, even if you go for a day trip to enjoy the scenery. The grounds at Mohonk are gorgeous. The hotel itself is pretty amazing just to look at. I've been here to hike, had brunch and dinner a couple times, but have NOT stayed overnight. The staff was always top-notch.

The place is gorgeous but the restaurant offerings were a joke. These were the only appetizers available and they weren t cheap either. These were not even touched yet when I took the photos. (Except for the carrot) My advice is have a cooler of food ready if you get hungry.

We really enjoyed our stay at Mohonk. It was late fall so a lot of the activities were not running but there was still lots to do! The skating rink was up and running, the trails are plentiful and the pool is beautiful. We were here with our five year old son and he loved it as well. The staff are great and attentive. The food is delicious and varied. All in all a great stay!

Can't say enough about how much we loved our visit here. I hadn't visited in 30 years, and it is still wonderful. We paid for the breakfast, and we had access to their trails as part of the price. Boats are $20 extra, but worth it. We only had a morning free but we managed to eat breakfast, hike the trails and go boating all by 1pm. Rocking chairs on porches were lovely. Incredible views. Brunch was staffed professionally and kind, with great selections. I do wish they had more items like blintzes and such, and that the crepes came with a sauce instead of just fruit. Staff also found and shipped us our water bottle we left behind free of charge. The greenhouse shop staff was super friendly and an amazing selection of plants. We are making this place a new family tradition for sure!

3 stars for value, 5 for location and views, 3 for food, 4 for activities. If you're into historical places, nature, and money is not an issue, you'll love Mohonk house. Positives: Michael the naturalist is amazing. Beautiful outdoor ice skating rink. Fireplace with wood in our room. Negatives: all hiking trails were closed. Pool was closed for some reason when we tried to swim, steam room out of commission. No pure maple syrup at breakfast or the "famous" brunch for these prices? Blasphemy.
