The state fair is a can't-miss end of summer activity in Minnesota. So many foods to eat, exhibits to see, performers to watch. Every year there are new foods and beers to try as well. Even on the busiest days it's not terribly hard to get around and move through the crowds. If you don't like crowds, plan to go earlier in the day on a weekday.
You ll find 10,000+ reasons to go and plenty more to come back again and again to the most highly-attended state fair in the entire United States! Make sure to grab a map at a Info booth to plan where to go and feel free to ask them how to get to your favorite food places as well. Definitely worth bringing a reusable water bottle and a reusable bag to help save money and carry any freebies or purchases you make at the fair, or just for leftover food! I highly recommend going to a Metro-Transit Park-Free, Ride Free Lot which are all over the Twin Cities Metro area. Parking nearby the fair is nearly impossible unless you get there super super early perhaps. There is plenty of free bike parking there though if you want to also bike off some of the calories from the cookies and cheese curds you ll eat!
Is there a better state fair anywhere else in the USA? No!
The Minnesota state fair is the best place for an afternoon or day(s) worth of fun, rides, interactive activities, some educational opportunities, and amazing people watching.
Some tips: get there before 9 am. The crowds will start to swell around 11 am and if you can get there when the fair opens, or anytime before 9 am, you can quickly live throughout the fairgrounds.
Buy ride tickets as soon as you get there. By midday the lines to get ride tickets can be 20 deep
Bring cash. Ride tickets and most food must be purchased with cash. There are atms but save the time in another line and bring it with you.
It's really fun, and you always have a good time. They also have a bunch of food options. The deep fried alligator doesn't taste bad either. It's crowded because it's a fair. It's always nice to go on the sky ride at night because you can see all lights.
Definitely try the corn
In the rain on Tuesday, we changed up our normal stops and it was still fantastic and 8 hours of entertainment. We did more indoors: the livestock barns, the history center, horticulture. Kids did a few kiddie midway rides, but we did the enclosed sky ride and the big wheel together. We snack along the way but bring in some picnic foods, grapes and carrots and water, so we don't all get sick. S'mores sundae in the dairy barn a treat!
Great time! Took Sw bus to the fair. Very affordable and hassle free. Food prices were fine except for pork chop on a stick. $8 for a very average tasting chop. We thought ride prices were a little high. No further complaints. Very well run fair!
Of all the years I attended, and pandemic aside, this year was the most fun and satisfying trip to the great Minnesota Get-Together I ever had. Food is still great!
Omg the best place ever in life. If you haven't been here before
You better make it a point to be on your to-do list.
A foodie bucket list must, exotic and amazing offerings all within walking distance and all within the same grounds, visit the exhibits or take the rides to make time between eatings, would return all years if possible. Best fresh lemonade and corn on a cob of my life!
It was packed because I went on Saturday but it was a really good time. I had a lot of fun playing games in the Midway! Beer is getting crazy expensive, but is on par 4 sporting events and concerts at about $8.50 per beer depending on what you get.
Had a blast! Was packed early, but worth going. Food was awesome!
Didn't hate it just have trouble with getting the star rating to show the correct amount of stars.but the Fair is always fun and a great way to end summer.
This is the first year we didn't go to a concert but we walked it like it was our first time there. I love the fried pickles and turkey leg. We went to the Butterfly House. I moved from Minnesota last year and I'm happy I was able to go during a stop there.
I had prebought tickets and had the day off work so was committed to this day. Unfortunately it started raining heavily and we left and never got to use even ONE of our $30 worth of Midway tickets. Not the fault of The Minnesota State Fair of course but it was my worst State Fair to date.
It's the best state fair ever! Awesome foods, tons of entertainment of every kind! Something for everyone all day long!
Who doesn t love it? also agriculture building is underrated
We are one of those Minnesota State Fair families that usually goes once or twice a year! It is definitely a local experience and a tradition for many. Do not miss judge this event before going and checking it out for yourself. They're literally is something for everyone whether it is checking out little shops from around the world or trying new Foods on a stick or enjoying amusement rides or witnessing the miracle of birth in the animal barns it is definitely an end of summer experience. There are great concerts and it's just fun to experience. Super family-friendly obviously!
The Minnesota State Fair is one of the few things everyone in the Twin Cities, and even beyond, gets excited about. The variety of food options is unbeatable. Pro Tip - come with a group so you can split food. It allows you to try way more things than if you go alone or with just one friend.
The people watching is super fun and you can get so many steps in while just walking around and seeing everything. Wear comfortable shoes - you'll be covering lots of ground.
And there's no shame in going more than once a year! Plenty to see, do and EAT!
It's the state fair, c'mon. Walking, eating, smelling, listening, watching. Everything Minnesota and more. I do not like big crowds but I make myself go every year and I enjoy it. And if you get there early enough, the streets are open and the bathrooms are clean and empty.
The reason I put three stars here is because I eat too much food and next thing I know I barf on all the rides! Other than that I have so much fun.
Awesome events, food, rides and so much more. Love all the different vendors.
Always a good time at the Great Minnesota Get together! Always worth the annual visit!
NO PLACE LIKE THE MINNESOTA FAIR!!! I ENJOYED TONI TONE TONY CONCERTS ON BOTH NIGHTS!!
Best fair in the world. Huge. Great food, animals, agriculture, and entertainment.
Where do I start? Free concerts at so many stages main acts at the Grand stand this year with the Beach Boys and the Righteous Brothers so many choices for food our favorites cheese curds in the food building 1919 Rootbeer fresh French fries and Sweet Martha's cookies. We stopped at Mancinis for a messy Giuseppe which was very good so many vendors which Real Shark teeth in the International Bazaar dogbarkavenue in Heritage Square 2 of our favorites We always stopped at the Minnesota Gophers building stop and see the dogs with usually a show displays and of course animals this year we found a watermelon slicer which is sure to be easier than a plain knife. Now as far as getting there for quite some time now we go to a park and ride and ride the bus much easier than driving and try to find parking and they run often enough you can come and go whenever you wish
MN state fair get together is always my way to end my summer even when it's jam pack
I have been to the Minnesota State Fair every year since I was 7. I am 38 now. There is so much to see and do. Good food and entertainment are plentiful. We love going and plan to continue going each year!
Best fair you will ever go to. I spend all my time eating food and deciding what to eat next. There is a lot to look at between eating.
Family tradition.
I always remember my father taking me to the Minnesota State Fair on the opening day right after he got home from work.... every year. We also had a full family day. The tradition continues.
If you think the fair is too crowded you should check out their attendance for the previous year for each day - it will give you a great idea about which days have the lightest attendance. I really enjoy going on the slow days so that we can take our time and not battle with the huge crowds.
If you think the fair is too expensive you should research all the free buildings, displays, events and entertainment. You should also consider buying your tickets and a coupon book prior to the fair opening. Another consideration - you don't have to fill up on fair food - have a cooler in your vehicle - you can get a hand stamp to re-enter the fair after you have a little picnic lunch. Obviously food is a big part of the fair, so have 1 favorite item, 1 new item and fill up on the sandwiches in said cooler, ya dig?
This polish sausage from Pitch Fork was FIRE! The casing had a nice snap to it, and a good tasting meat! Then the grilled onions, peppers, and mustard... What! I will be back for y'all next year!!
It's the Greatest State Fair in the USA. Plenty of things to do! Great people watching. Lots of free music to listen to. Numerous exhibits. Trinkets, souvenirs, food, crafts to purchase. It's as expensive as you want to make it. Coupon books are worth purchasing. Bathrooms plentiful & clean. Love our State Fair!!!!!!
Great food, and great projects for my kids to play. The only thing is that its extremely crowded and very dirty.
Always great family fun, crammed together with 20,000 other minnesotans...but wonderful food, as usual!
So much happens here! The Great Minnesota Get Together, the Beer Dabler, Back to the 50's, etc...
Something for everyone! Food! Rides! Shopping! Entertainment! People-watching!
The people, the food, the entertainment... You can't go wrong.
Lots and lots to do and see. Prices are at rip off rates. I guess you have to expect at a fair. Record attendance meant elbow to elbow with everybody. Be mindful of you wallet. Lines were too long to try everything.
It's a large fair and has some interesting food options. It can get uncomfortably crowded and lines for the trendy food items can be very long.
Bring your patience and your wallet.
I'd say it's a decently fun place. One thing that annoyed me about it is that I was in this huge line to this ride. I was told that it was five tickets to get on. So I bought five tickets. When I finally made it to the ride after 3 HOURS AT MOST, the man there told that I had the wrong tickets. He could've been one of those people and let me go on anyways but NO. I said "what do I do?" in a panicked voice and if I remember correctly he said something like "get out and find another ride". UGHHHH IT WAS SO ANGERING!
The only reason for going is the mashed potatoes on a stick. Potato Man and Sweetie located next to the horse barn. Also, the corn on a cob, buffalo, lemonade, french fries are amazing. Don't forget to see the biggest hog and the huge horses.
I had such a great time! I'm looking forward to 2020
Awesome experience. Something for everyone. There are rides, educational attractions, merchandise building, arts, animals, horse shoes, music, beer, unique food, rides, vendors showcasing all of their products and services, w kids corner, late night concerts, gifts, wheel chair rentals, camping, and much more. Everyone is kind of rushed and overwhelmed but it's still fun.
great place to visit. Lots to do
lots of fun
Never disappoints! Extremely crowded, but that is to be expected. It's the biggest State Fair around and happens once a year. Tons of unique food and drinks. Always something new to try! Cheese curds, Dill Pickle beer, Roasted Corn on the cob, Fried Cookie Dough. Love this tradition.
Pokemon, food, drinks, and fun. Go when itz raining because there will be like a million less people.
What to say about the State Fair?
It's amazing.
There's new beer everywhere and new foods.
There's something for everyone.
From the animal barns to politics, rides to signing, friends to family, concerts to zigzagging between people to cross streets.
You can go once and spend the whole day and still not see everything. Take your time and go early.
Also sweet Martha's Cookies? I''ll say it, suck.
Hot, crowded, noisy, smelly... AMAZING! A right of passage for any Minnesotan. All kinds of delicious treats, snacks, delicacies, and oddities to eat and admire. One of our favorite things is cheering on the youth of MN in the 4H competitions, livestock shows, and educational competitions. There is something new to see and eat every time you go. Seriously fun for anyone! Be prepared with water bottles and a sense of humor- it can get pretty crazy!
I love the state fair more and more every year! I feel really connected to the state as a whole and I think that is something that Minnesotans can feel proud of. I could go on and on about the fair but overall it is a great place to spend time with friends and family!
Best state fair I've ever been to! Be sure to see the butter sculptures in the dairy building!
Had fun at the Amature Talent show finales and tasting some og the new foods and my favorite legendary food. Tiny Tims Donuts. The best mini donuts anywhere. I met Tiny Tim in 1978 after we moved here. He was renting out a bedroom at my neighbors house right before, during and at the end of the fair to set up run the stand then clean up the stand and lock it up for the winter.
it was fun but you have to make sure that you have a lot of money to enjoy it
Bonkers when it s busy, but otherwise fun and full of great food and people watching.
Best fun ever!!!! Gets better an better every years my family an i cant get enough!! Love It
Arguably the best state fair on Earth actually the best fear of any kind on Earth many minnesotans go to it multiple times and people come from all over the world to enjoy the a festive Ambience at at the fair of course the people watching is incomparable but they have a fast variety of foods that you can eat some of them actually not unhealthy! Also items of apparel or various arteries and items Ceramics custom carvings all kinds of things can be seen at at the fair and don't forget the Midway
The Minnesota State Fair was really good this year! Martha's cookies are a must every year! I had so much fun! The ferris wheel ride is also a must every year! I guess if you're reading this review because you've never been.
Basic things to know is, you should bring cash with you .
Parking by the State Fair is expensive like $20 for parking, so I suggest you use shuttles offered by public transportation the Metro has for the fair. Sunscreen and sunglasses or a hat . They will check your backpack or bag that you bring . You can purchase your ticket at the entrance they accept cash or credit. Adults= $15, kids=$10. Obviously these are the prices for the year 2019. They might fluctuate in the future. And when you make it to the fair eat something on a stick or something fried!
State Fair is the best time to visit the Twin Cities. I grew up near here and ha e fine every year since I was a baby. Machinery Hill has changed to more of a sale lot for cars, and there are a lot more food choices. But most of the fun, free stuff is still available, like International Market, the 4H building, the exhibitions of craft entries, and free shows and bands throughout the day, every day.
If you don't want to go to the State Fair specifically, it's still a great time to visit, because other attractions are less crowded, like Mall of America, the science museum, the Children's Museum, and just about anything else.
The State Fair is amazing! We have been making it a tradition year after year. So much fun and entertainment to check out. The addition of the big wheel is so color. I am terrible with height, but my mom loves it.
I had a really good time when I was there . I have given my body a total workout for the shape I was in alot thing to do in the fare
You could spend all 12 days here and still not see everything there is to see. So much fun, so much food, and so much to see. Favorite part of summer!!!
Draws lots of crowds because it is the best state fair. Plan ahead. Blue Ribbon bargain book is great to have for families. Pronto pups, cheese curds and pork chop on a stick are all highly recommended.
It's fun and there's something for everyone to do and see and you don't get bored
Lots of fun, amazing parade show, delicious snack food especially the corn and cookies. It is the second largest State fair in the United States
Best food around!! Too bad it's only one time a year!
The best around! We love to go once with our son and do all of the great kid activities and then go one more time with no kids to enjoy everything else. Obviously the food is great and we enjoy just taking our time and soaking it all in.
It's always worth it. Minnesota family get together.
The Minnesota State Fair is a fun seasonal activity for everyone. The Creative Activities building houses some of the neatest pieces of workmanship and the animal buildings are especially fun to see all the livestock. My personal favorite is the wide variety of foods and people that are able to be observed at the fair. We go at least twice if not three times because truly, you need several days to experience all the fair has to offer.
I absolutely LOVE the fair!!! Go EVERY chance we get!!! Something for everyone every year!!!
Food on a stick. Massive crowds. Free music. Beer. Handcrafted goods for sale. Art to behold. What's not to love? [The parking!!! It's awful!!! Unless you arrive VERY early in the morning. (7am...before most vendors open), don't plan on parking on the grounds. There are small inconveniences with the park and rides, but it beats driving around for hours looking for a spot, only to end walking a mile to get to the entrance. Take the bus!!!)
I'll probably travel back from Phoenix next year! Best state Fair ever!
The fair is great people watching and food that is unique
The food is the same deep fried (you fill in the blanks). There always a line for something and the games all require 5 tickets which you get 25 in a sheet for $15. Although it can be pricey, there are plenty of family fun activities that require little to no cost. The butterfly tent is fun and the corn slide is a must.
This year I tied gator. It wad pretty good. You can never go wrong with sweet mathas cookies.
I have been to about 5 different state fairs. This is by far the biggest I've been to also the most fun!. The food is amazing too! Great place to pokemon hunt in the off season.
State fair was excellent prices are getting pretty high though Makes it hard to buy things Because of the high prices I think Of the food should open at least by 7:00 a.m.
Considered one of the best State Fairs in the country (rivals Texas) and after visiting for the first time I would have to agree. A parade with bands every day, crazy amounts of food, great concert venue, and just about everything you would expect from a state fair but on a high level. Because of the popularity the attendance is high and moving around can be difficult...beware of strollers and traffic without much direction. Navigation is a little difficult if you've never been...pretty sure i unintentionally walked in circles a couple times. Highly recommend Metro Transit to and from the fair.
Minnesota state Fair you've just got to experience our state fair. It's fun.
There's something for everyone.
Games, rides, activities, information, booths, food/ drinks, shows, farming/ animals, art, shopping, vehicles/ machines, agriculture, 4H, & friends!
I like when we go here.Good food and places to see thats why its named The Great Minnesota Get Together
I go multiple times every year. There is so much fun to be had, so many expensively delicious foods, and the people watching is unbelievable. They ALL come out of the wood work for this celebration. The amount of entertainment is crazy!
