Dumpling time on this beautiful Monday day, so glad they have a 2nd Ave spot... today's munch is the Mimi Cheng's dumplings- (steamed) organic chicken & zucchini . These fresh made lovelys were tasty and delicious and never hada chance. 2nd pic is the Reinvented Classic- (fried) pasture-raised pork, baby bok choy & cabbage. One of favorites, fried nicely giving these dumplings a perfect sear on one side. Of course one can not eat these dumplings without the secret sauce, Mimi Cheng's Secret Sauce has a nice little kick and makes the dumplings even better.....must have on them....

Maybe it was my mistake for not getting any dumplings, but the spicy dan dan noodles left something to be desired. Not to say they were bad, but they definitely weren t worth the $12 considering the minimal sauce and toppings - the only thing aside from the noodles and spices were a few pieces of bok choy.

Sat down for a some dumplings this past week and they were absolutely incredible. I had the traditional pork pan fried, they were moist flavorful and amazingly fresh! The special sause with them was so good! The best part of the meal was the November dumpling, a Thanksgiving dumpling! This was by far the best dumpling I have ever had! I am usually not a fan of cranberry sauce, but this stuff pulled the whole dumpling together and made it even better!! I will most certainly be back!

We ended up here after our first aborted attempt to go to Tim Ho Wan on a weekend - 4 hour wait - no thanks!

This is a bare bones counter service place where you're served lots of different dumplings, along with some special sauce. The dumplings are well done and with thin skins. Certainly a lot better than most Chinese restaurants I've been too. They are at a premium though. There's some seating but you can always have it to go.

Great ambiance and good dumplings. It may not be the best dumpling I've ever had, but this restaurant is lovely, the service was great and socially conscious. I ordered the February special which donated partial proceeds to City Harvest (NYC food rescue non profit). Keep up the good work Mimi Cheng's!

The 5 star reviewers have failed me once again, I did not receive the quality of food everyone has been describing. I order 8 fried dumplings, a 12 hour chicken soup and Dan Dan noodles which I did not receive and after my second attempt of going back into the store to ask I gave up because I didn't ask for a receipt and I didn't want to cause any trouble but the total I was charged didn't add up. Anyway my favorite food is soup and dumplings so I had high expectations because of the reviews but the food was not my taste. I do have to say though, I love to support these hard working business and the cashier was very sweet also. Thank you!

Yummy quick bite.

Yummy quick bite.

Edit: Just went tonight. Somebody screwed up, and our order came out long after later arrivals, pork dumplings were gritty because the veggies probably weren't properly washed, scallion pancakes had almost no scallions, and the dumplings weren't even that good at the end of it all. Maybe it's an odd night, but this time it was overpriced and poorly managed.

Had the 12 hour organic noodle soup and the reinvented dumplings. I must say the soup was saltier than the ocean and the pan fried dumplings were just overpowered by the burnt flavor probably from a pan that has not been cleaned prior to cooking our order. Definitely not worth thr price they are charging.

Honestly, not great. Cute interior, clean design. Now to the important part, the dumplings. I d give them a solid 4/10. They didn t taste bad, they were just way overpriced for what they are. there are much better tasting dumplings for much cheaper and that come in greater quantity at many other spots. Almost $12 for for 8 dumplings? Come on! It seems to me like a trendy recreation of the dirty hole-in-the-wall spots to be more palatable for certain groups of people.
I ll recommend two other places:
- Vanessa s dumplings, multiple locations
- fried dumpling on Mott street

Service and food is delicious. Love their monthly dumplings special. For the month of November, they have a delicious Thanksgiving dumpling. (Turkey, house made gravy, cranberry sage stuffing, and a side of house made cranberry sauce ) everyone has to try it!!

Tasty dumplings made with clean, pasture raised chicken & pork, as well as fresh veg. This isn't your Chinatown-type (just as awesome) dumpling house...a nice way to change it up though. The 12hr chicken broth w/chicken meatballs is delicious too!

We were in New York and it was dumpling day .... so we went to Mimi to try these delights, and we have absolutely no regrets! 6 steamed dumplings with pork and cabbage and 6 fried (better!) With vegetables and eggs ... and then their phenomenal sauce !! I recommend them, a quick and cheap meal to savor fabulous oriental tastes!

Good dumplings, thought I honestly couldn't taste the difference between fried pork and chicken. I guess the spices and frying sort of neutralizes that. One let down was the mushy broccoli--should've had a nice crunch to balance the squishy dumplings.

It s perfectly serviceable, not ohmygoodnessyum!, but it s tasty & fresh-tasting & good. The cafe itself is adorbs & the bright yellow stools are a cheerful happiness-inducing huzzah. If this place were in my neighborhood, I d drop by for snacks every week. Cozy comfortable good clean & bright.

Went with one of my friends in November, they had some kind of Turkey dumpling special, it was overstuffed, it was burnt black across the bottom, extremely salty, grainy, and overall just kind of inedible and disgusting and they had a side of cranberry sauce which just made it worse, my family also tried and disliked it, we all took one bite and spit it out and tossed the rest, the interior was dimly lit and everything just looked tattered or old, the music was confusing since it was either Spanish or reggae in a dumpling shop, the paintings on the wall were random, the wooden bench's seat had peeling paint, the floor looked dirty and splattered with paint and stains, and nothing about it said authentic and it hurt to even be in the place and to think people would go for and spend money on such disgraceful attempts at dumplings

This review applies to both locations. I ve visited each location twice; my first time at leach location I had the monthly special and one of the dumplings from the regular menu. The monthly specials are always really good, but I do not like the dumplings from the regular menu.... the last two times I ve stopped by, I just got an order of the monthly special and then went somewhere nearby for dessert.

The sides are ok, but are very pricey. The dumplings are actually pretty pricey too. It s fun to watch them being handmade up at the front, and their house dipping sauce is fantastic, but I can t really recommend anything other than the monthly special.

My favorite monthly was the Emmy burger collaboration! I wish all the dumplings were like this. The buratta meatball dumplings were also really good, and the lunar new year lamb dumplings were amazing. This month there is a French onion soup dimpling and I d like to try that. So again, the specials are fun, interesting, and delicious, but you re better off going to Chinatown if you want high quality pork or veggie dumplings and you ll get them there for cheaper.

Edit 12/17/2018. 2 stars. Cashless = discriminatory. Also, no place to wash hands. The place looks shabbier now than when it opened.

Excellent dumplings. unique, and limited edition flavors available. Food is not cheap, but well-made, casual place, table service limited to staff walking your order to your table; food served on real plates, not styrofoam.

These are really good dumplings!! They are a bit pricey for dumplings, there are definitely cheaper in the area, but these taste so fresh and healthy. I always try to make a run here at least once a month. The chicken and zucchini ones are my go to!
