Very old hotel.
Very old hotel.
The restaurant is well worth eating, traditional meals, and live shows.

Old classic feel to it but it all goes down hill from there needs renovation bad Wi-Fi barley works and the staff is uncooperative and rude food is okay at Best.
This hotel liveable in the past, it feels like an old black and white movie. The washroom sucks there is no hot water. The shower head is broken, closet door broken, beds are tiny. The only reason I give 1 star is because of the wifi. Other than that this hotel should be refurbished, this hotel was recommended from an old friend in Addis and said it used to be amazing. I m assuming they didint Change anything since then. Absolutely disappointed
It was very nice we play tennis that's cool it is the best place to go and have fun
One of the oldest hotels in Ethiopia with good service!
Gion Garden in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) is a beautiful garden with a restaurant and a gun, which is visited by tourists and there are foreigners, and next to it is a beautiful and luxurious hotel.
Weddings are held in this garden frequently
A great hotel in Addis Ababa, supervised by the government. Otherwise, the hotel rooms are bad for more than 4 stars. Gardens, jungle parks, restaurants and a large swimming pool ... all this makes it a great experience to go.
Got my phone stolen there. Absolutely not recommended.
Very worn rooms. . In any case in need of renovation
The most beautiful thing is gardens
magnificence.
Corrupt. That is all I can say, especially those at the reception. To all future guest take your voucher with you if you pay online. They have no problem with letting you pay again.
For some months, parts of the hotel or rooms have been renovated. The rooms are currently rented partly have no hot or hot water. And if only very sparingly. If the hotel is fully booked, it may be that you come into the annexe at the fitness center. There are partly the rooms very run down. The food in the restaurant is good. Staff very friendly
This apparently used to be a noble hotel. It is now long past its sell by date. My room was very basic and had no hot water or electrical outlets. Also, to flush the toilet, you have to lift the lid of the cistern. The food in the restaurant was very mediocre.
Excellent stay. The staff picked me up at the airport. He guided me well for 3 days and the security was palpable. Very friendly and very helpful.
A very poorly managed Hotel with poor service and very bad hospitality. This starts at the entrance with untrained security people mistreating the guest, very unwelcome. They humiliated me for having half drunk plastic bottle water. I spoke with the Hotel manager and shortly learnt that the whole service is very inhospitable and moved out with my guests to the nearest Hilton hotel which by far is very friendly though the prices are higher. The service at Ghion Hotel doesn't meet the lowest standards for a star hotel and I don't recommend this to anyone unless you need to spoil your day.
Aged hotel. Is being renovated. The bungalows are ok, the bathrooms are clean but old. The furniture is worn out ... that's all there is to it. The staff is always friendly but also reserved and sometimes inexperienced. The internet only works in the lobby and social networks like Facebook don't work, neither does WhatsApp.
Rooms are too expensive for what you get.
The park is beautiful and the restaurant in the Rondel has good traditional food. Breakfast is ok.
The Ghion hotel-do not eat here. We have India trained stomachs and, much to our chagrin for our last day in Ethiopia, we both got disgustingly ill the next day. We should have listened to our gut on the signs: completely empty restaurant, dingy tablecloths, dispassionate staff (some, not all). Maybe it s normal to have stray cats run through restaurants in addis but we hadn t seen any anywhere else. The bread roll at the start of the meal was stale and hard. We ordered the veggie burger and it came with a surprisingly large amount of food: two patties, some fries, carrots, and greens. The patty was well formed but somewhat bland and, worse, cold, and did not seem fresh. The fries seemed cold in the inside and oily on the outside. The greens were luke warm and unseasoned. Boiled carrots were fine. Hard to know which part of the meal made us ill as it all seemed suspiciously unfresh. The only reason we ate there is because it seemed like the only quick option before we went to the African jazz village. But in retrospect, the better option would have been to not eat at all. Lot of potential in this place due to location and history but I would not go back unless ownership/ management changes, or Gordon Ramsey visits. we regretted dining here both in the short(eating it) and long term(dealing with the explosive aftermath).
These guys are gone glory and they have a problem getting things right. That means you need to be patient sometimes. Be ready for some loose wires, broken showers and sometimes no warm water at all. I was told they are upgrading. Ghion definitely has a lot of potential: they have a beautiful garden, busy with marrying couples almost every Saturday, a decent swimming pool and a legendary jazz club with regular live performances and a lot of atmosphere. Beef up your act and revive that gone glory, guys! A few don't order the chicken sandwich: I spoke to two people who found the chicken bones served in the sandwich (one of them was me)...
With the largest garden in the city, Ghion Hotel is one of very top hotels in the country. In addition to the comfortable environment it owned, the hotel is located at the very center of the city, which makes the place relatively accessible to find many affordable transportation services.
Lobby and customer service is great but the rooms are not good the worst thing in there No water of the shower and sink...
* 8 Months Commercial bank of Ethiopia. Kolfe Branch in Messenger.
* 1Year and 6months Adeyame Yordanos Printing Press In Secretary.

Fantastic grounds. Hotel has a 1970s ambience..Haile Sellassie would feel at home.
Worst place I've been in my life, not worth staying here.... Especially at the price they quote
First.... this Hotel (which I not stayed in) has a long history as I have been told. And you can tell from the way it looks in the lobby. yet... I had lunch and a drink there on their more than beautiful terrace. A sea of tranquility in the hectic of Addis. The lunch (club sandwich) was just great and people serving were more than friendly. Wifi was free and worked perfectly.
Have a nice garden in the compound I usually run in the garden and also swim there nice place to be
I love this hotel with old-fashioned charm and its royal park and sublime as Ethiopia ....
The price of 80$ includes after a long discussion breakfast and room service. Warm water comes or comes not. The stuff isn't trained in any way. 99% of the stuff don't speak english. The hotel is really runed down.
Only the park is worse to rate the hotel with 2 stars.
Ghion Hotel is an old establishment. Witch you notice, because many things are just worn down. But as the staff is first class and the central location in Addis Abeba is perfect. And the lovely garden outside even makes a Sunday outing for locals.
No fair value: unfriendly, greedy and almost not english speaking staff. Very aged rooms - especially bathrooms require renovation. Not recommended for individual travellers.
Very good location. This is canceled by the rooms in a catastrophic state. No water and if it flows then dropwise, it does not run off. TV radio etc. are not connected because they do not work anyway. The prices are a joke. If you want to pay for a drink you are about 1 hour without a reaction.
Never again!!!!!!
Ghion hotel which is popularly known as "the Garden palace hotel of east Africa" is located in the heart of down town Addis Ababa.
best garden fast service
It is one of the city recreational center and hotel
The most disrespectful staff in the hospitality industry. Stay away.
I only stayed one night in the hotel. The grounds are beautiful, the hotel is ok - surely a bit antiquated - but I have no complaints. What really buggered me is the small souvenir shop right opposite the breakfast room, which has been rent More
This hotel is right in the middle of the city of Addis Ababa but you don't hear any noise. It was built in the 60s and still has that 60s decor. Service is good and they are currently the middle of improving rooms and facilities. Huge grounds.
It's an okay hotel, good wifi when the govt allows it
A large hotel complex with a beautiful jazz band and a large swimming pool, all surrounded by a large garden. However, it has to contend with faded glory. The washbasins in the bathrooms do not have hot water. Also check that the toilet is flushing.
Staff are friendly but the restaurant is slow, you sometimes have to ask 3x for the menu.
Rooms are nice and spacious.
When we were there they were busy applying some paint.
When I first arrived I didn't understand the poor reviews. I honestly thought this hotel maybe just attracts high maintenance people. The compound is beautiful and has a spa, gym, pool, mutliple restaurants, etc. However, many rooms lack working hot water and outlets. Staff is rude and cleaning staff literally robs rooms. You have to check all of your valuables at the front desk every time you leave, and if you check too many things some of the front desk staff will give you a hard time. The restaurant staff is rude and inefficient (45 minutes to wait for your check when you're literally the only person in the restaurant kind of inefficient). I'm not one to swear off an entire establishment based on one hair in my food, but after 4 times in a row with a bug or long human hair in my food, I don't love it. Everything comes with hidden extra costs. The pool, the gym, the occasional events they have on the compound. The mosquitos at night get pretty terrible and there are no bug nets or mosquito screens. There is a curtain type thing, which in multiple rooms has a gaping hole it in. This might be a nice place to stay for a couple of nights with its prime location (right by Meskel square, a popular tourist destination due to museums and a few decent restaurants) but I wouldn't recommend any type of extended stay. I live in a much less developed country and if this hotel were cheaper, I would give it a solid 5 stars. You can just do much, MUCH better at this price point in Addis.
Many years ago, the Ghion Hotel of Addis Ababa offered the traveling dignitaries of the Soviet Bloc luxury in Ethiopia.
Spacious entry and lobby. Excellent first impression with the polished wood, immaculate floors, comfortable lounge area.
The staff are excellent -- they are fortunate to have salaries. Most speak some English and they are very helpful to foreigners
However, the rooms? Only the landscaping and gardens remain beautiful.
In the rooms, ragged rugs, wires across the floor, leaking toilets, broken windows, no screens -- and there are mosquitoes in Addis. After malaria in Kenya, I dread the buzz of mosquitos.
The hotel needs work. With extensive renovation, the Ghion can make international 3 star rating.
To see a video of the bungalow where I stayed, Google:
Ghion Hotel Bungalows -- Soviet-era 4 star luxury in decay
The beautiful landscape and huge space makes this ~50 year old facility a fun place for concerts and open air events
The wonderful gardens, the people (real people) healthy at heart, precious memories for a wonderful land. Peep of the rude Spaniards who thought themselves superior.
Amazin hotel, very huge parks and a wonderful awimming pool, u must like it!!
Very lovely green hotel with cultural display, and live Ethiopian music.
Very old place in need of attention, not fit for service, difficult to say anything nice about the rooms, staff are under-trained, location is excellent, big garden that is well kept.
This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. The staff is incompetent and rude. The cleaning staff robs everyone. Out of my group there has been $700 stolen, items and an expensive watch. The hotel does not care that their cleaning staff robs people. The food is mediocre and the restaurant staff is slow and hardly understand anything that is said. This hotel is disgusting with stains on the bed. I am thankful I never have to come back here again. Absolutely horrible in every way.
One of the places that you will feel calm in the city of Addis Ababa. Great room service and over all hospitality.
Normal service and foods, nice garden, too bad we have to pay for wi fi...
Very friendly stuff and amazing vintage furniture. You will like this if you like vintage things. Only comment is the cleanliness is lacking. The shower also didn't work in one of the rooms we stayed.
Great place to hang out and chill.. beautiful park .. decent place really
The place, the food and the service, its all great and it has abundant parking space. Although, if you are going there for their jazz show I suggest you check if Mulata Astatike is playing.
This may have been a beautiful hotel in the past but currently rooms look like they haven't been maintained since the 80s.
