Michigan State Culinary Services Review

Kinda overpriced, but since this is a new and modernistic apartment, maybe it's worth it.

The student's rooms are great and well laid out. They are spacious.

The Market (Sparty) has great coffee

we have moved in for two weeks and the apartment was not even cleaned. various problems with different parts such as kitchen, bedrooms , etc.
We have submitted maintenance requests the day we moved in and so far no one even has came to the apartment for the first look. The worst maintenance I have ever seen.

It's the best work environment I've ever had and they are luxury apartments for students at MSU

Nice building for msu. Decent little shop and small luch spot. Starbucks, spartan spirt shop good parking

Tenant for 2 years

While these apartments are located close to campus there are a number of issues that prevent me from recommending them instead of other cheaper options along grand river that are just as close to campus.
The reasons I do not recommend these apartments are:

Unorganized leasing - Numerous people including myself have opted to stay in the same apartment or selected a location to live within 1855 only to get relocated by RHS (Resident Housing Services) without their consent. You will still pay the same price, and be flexible for the housing service but you will have to account for mistakes they have made when assigning tenants to apartments.

No parking for friends or guests - There is no parking for your family or friends that or even yourself for that matter if you fail to secure a parking pass. I've gotten tickets for parking my car with the yield lights left on to simply carry in groceries.

Incredibly thin walls - If you'd like privacy from your roommates so that they can't hear you in your bedroom or even in the bathroom this is not the apartment for you.

Hazardous Fire alarms - While the intentions are good with this and also (I imagine aimed at discouraging smoking inside of the apartments) the fire alarms are so sensitive that they sometimes go off multiple times a day leading many tenants to become desensitized simply ignoring them which is ultimately much less safe. If you burn some food in the oven - expect the fire department.

Construction dust never cleaned properly - This may sound minuscule but both apartments I've been in in separate buildings have a thin coat of dust that forms within 12hrs on every surface. It's something that you start to notice after living here for a while and I imagine it isn't healthy to breath.

With all of this in mind there are benefits of living here which include not having everything included in your rent - internet/ TV service, electricity, water, garbage/ recycling and a fitness center which is kept very clean and the proximity to classes especially in south neighborhood which can lead to attending more classes since it's easier to get there.

I'm sharing the things that I noticed after two years living hear that I would've liked to know - I've (unfortunately slowly) learned I would've been better off looking harder to find somewhere else.

They have a Spartan store and I saw Cassius Winston there.

Large appartment "pseudo-dorm" complex just outside of campus. Modern and clean, but lacking in social and community spaces

The apartments are beautiful, but the price to me for a shared space is just a little much. There s no guest parking cheaper than $10 a night, and if you borrow a spare key for more than 2 days they charge you $75 and force you to change the lock. Also the fire alarms are RIDICULOUS, they go off from steam from showers, boiled water, smoke from ovens, so they WILL go off 2-3 times a month at least. Overall just an annoying experience and I m not sad to leave.

Great student living. Modern individual bedrooms, trendy, grocery store on site, gym easy walk to school

This review is for 1855 family housing : Pros: Close proximity to campus, decent enough space for family, nice furnitures and comes with almost new appliances including washer-dryer and dishwasher and the rent includes everything. Cons: Walls are super thin and you almost hear everything what your neighbor say and does in his/her house. NOISE ( I know I am living in a family housing and have five year old at home too ) but the people above me are butt heads who does not even consider there are people live downstairs and let the kids loose, stomp and run around, moving the furniture all evening even after 10 pm. If you are person who has super sensitivity to sound and need quiet place to relax and study after hard day at work in grad school, please stay away from this place. (Again, it's depending on the neighbors, probably we are the unlucky ones) And, the constant buzzing of fire alarms when people cook in the house and keeping the apt door open while cooking. So, if some smoke comes, this will trigger the fire alarm for the whole building. This happened almost 3-4 times the last month alone. UGH, can't wait to get out of this place:((((((
