Metric Motors Review

I've been to Metric Motors a few times over the past few years. I've bought 2 cars from them and also had repairs done and they are fantastic!!! Chris is friendly, kind, professional and always makes sure the repairs are done right! Its so refreshing to have a mechanic you can trust! I highly recommend them!

Metric Motors is the only location I will take my vehicles for diagnostics and repair. Their fee structure is better than fair market value, their employees are highly skilled and knowledgeable and the turn around is quick. In short, their service is top notch.

I have taken 3 vehicles there for various issues. Chris and his staff treat me like family and do not push for upsales. They address the issue at hand with honesty, and inform me of other issues they might find. However, in the end the decision was always mine with what I wanted done.

I greatly appreciate the Metric Motors crew and will recommend them to anyone.

Durring this pandemic I wanted to take on a new project. I took apart my 1.8t engine on the Audi. I went in and got help. They honed my block and cleaned it. Got me on my way. There's just only one problem. I've never actually broken down and rebuilt an engine. The owner took time out of his schedule to help me with specs that I needed to rebuild it on my own. He also gave me advice on how to break the engine in once it's in the car. Completely different that what joe mechanic said to do on the internet. They work on these type of engines day in and day out. The engine has been put back together and ready to be put back in the car. I've always taken my engine work to them to get fixed, and they always give me more value that what I expect. Seems like somethings don't change. Excited to see the engine running in my car. About a year ago I had a motor replaced by metric motors. They did great work, even after the job was done and I had a few hickups and they were happy to help.

After getting my car worked on in Colorado (heating issue). I came to find out that the auto place I went to put the wrong caps on my radiator and antifreeze tank. This caused the antifreeze to spray out all over my engine. While on a road trip in Utah, I was in desperate need of a mechanic. My man Mitch at Metric Motors took me in right away and cleaned my engine and ordered the correct parts for my car. The next day he replaced the parts and got my car working good as new. Really saved our trip. I would highly recommend Mitch and Metric Motors to anyone in needs of auto work.

Looked everywhere for a valve cover bolt for my 93 impreza, this was the only place within driving distance that I didn't have to order and wait for it. Drove 2 hours to get it same day rather than ordering one, get home to use the bolt and it's the wrong one.

These guys are amazing! They were kind enough to get my Rav4 in and got me an amazing deal on a tranny! Seth gave me a time frame of when it would be done and it was completed within that period. All the employees there are really professional and kind, one even gave me a cola! I will definitely return.

We had our engine replaced by them and they did a very thorough job on our van. We are very happy with their services and their honesty. We will use them again for our vehicles and we do recommend them.

Bought a used engine for my daughter s 2003 Legacy in May 2017. These guys were great to work with. Fast forward a year and we needed a quick fix on a exhaust manifold leak. They took it right in and turned it around quickly. Worked with us on the price too even though we were beyond warranty - surprisingly inexpensive. I just couldn t be happier with the service. I love Metric Motors! When I need help with my car, they are always willing to help. Not only have they rescued me in a time of need, but they have also sold multiple cars to my daughter. She loves both of the cars so much, she refuses to sell one of them. I know when I take my car in they will be honest with what I need and not try to sell me on unnecessary services. This why I trust them with my business.

I brought my car to Chris with a seized motor. He went above and beyond to help me throughout the process to see if a factory warranty would be an option. If I ever have an issue with my car again, he s got my business.

Received a very high quote to rebuild an engine. $3000 for an engine when the vehicles only worth half that. Lol.. that's not even installed or removing the old engine. Overcharge much?

I've used Metric Motors for many projects over the years! From basic machine work on cylinders and heads (honda), to imported Honda, toyota, ford/mazda, and subaru engines. They're knowledge is top notch and they have a tremendously helpful staff. Thanks guys!

I had my vehicle brought here to adjust valves. When I went to get it no one acknowledged I was there. Finally I walked behind the counter where they just stared at me. After getting one guy cornered I was told I needed a crate motor for $3500. I laughed and left. Went somewhere else where they adjusted valves & I'm still driving it today. Perhaps I got no customer service because I'm dark, seemed like a bunch of good old boys attitude.

There is no way to reply to your questions so I will continue w/ post.

What really got me was the total lack of customer service.
I stood there at the counter for 15 minutes, there were at least 3-4 people behind counter. No wait a moment or we will be with you, absolutely nothing. Then when I went behind counter & told them which vehicle it just got quiet and one guy said I needed a new crate engine, no explanation or alternatives. No printout on diagnosis. I wanted more info but got none so the only reason I paid was so I could get my keys and get out. I felt belittled as if the joke was on me.Then to top it off my door handle was broken when I went to drive away. You guys came highly recommended but like I said maybe only for white folk or Mormons I don't know. There is no way to post a pick of my rig. Don't worry I WONT BE BACK!

Metric Motors is a great place to diagnose and repair your auto. The folks are very friendly and helpful. Mitch was able to repair my Westfalia camper air conditioner as well as a number of other problems. I m sure we will return in the future for any concerns.

We were looking for a part all over the country, finally found it at quadruple the price somewhere else, Chris starts looking for the same part, found it and called immediately to get it for me for significantly less. I ve had the best experiences with staff and owners every time I go in. They re easy to work with, knowledgeable nice and prompt! I wouldn t take my cars anywhere else!

If I had to recommend an honest shop with integrity and honesty, it is this one. They work hard to find and fix problems and we're honest with me every step of the way. It's hard to find a shop with this kind of honesty and the staff are very helpful. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a shop with competence and care.

I have used them several times before on Subaru and Audi products, so I had them rebuild my boat engine, my parents moved so I put the engine in after the warranty expired the following summer, the pt a timing chain on that rubbed against the timing cover housing. went in replaced it, then the engine had very low vacuum after hours of diagnostics and them telling me it was a timing concern, they had put in the wrong camshaft.

Metric Motors did major work(replaced engine) on our honda SUV- and they are a pleasure to work with. They were great to keep us informed about the timeline- and were great about explaining what was needed to be done to fix the problems- even to someone who doesn't know too much about cars. Their documentation about what was done is also easy to read and is helpful. I highly recommend this shop.

I had my engine rebuilt here and to say the least, I was very dissatisfied with their service. First, they can not keep their words in terms of time. Multiple times that I have had dealing with them, they we're few days late, if not few weeks. Second, their supposed knowledge in engine is very questionable. They tried to tell me that there was a leak in my intake and that's why it's having hard time ideling, when in fact another shop pin-pointed right away to the real problem which was a valve timing. Also, they told me that fixed the problem when all they did was reset my computer. This place is just going to mess up your engine for good, so STAY AWAY!

Amazing Experience with Steve and crew. I was driving from Utah to Seattle and just happened by the shop while looking for an auto parts store (as if my 87 Vanagon Synchro knew where to go). I saw a half dozen vans in front of the shop and decided to stop as I had a broken hydraulic pump bracket and thought I might be able to ask for advice. Steve, the owner greeted me at the door, listened to my story, took a look at my van, had the part I needed off of an old engine, had a mechanic install the part(s) and gave me a tour of the shop. I could hardly believe my luck! Everyone in the shop was friendly and Steve charged me a fair price. I would definitely consider Metric Motors for van repair or a Subaru engine conversion in the future. Thank you Metric Motors!

Driving into work this morning and my check engine light comes on, then my car starts to sputter and some other fun stuff..... I pull off the highway in Centerville and start googling auto mechanics. I call the closest one I can find, the man on the phone says he is slammed but he can take a quick look. He ends up changing the ignition coil, he happened to have a used part that would be good enough to get me back home safe. A million thanks to Mitch at Metric Motors in Centerville. If you need work done I have a feeling he will be very fair and honest.

Great guys, quick service. I came in to get a brake light changed because I didn t have the tool to open the light. Walked in and was created by 3 friendly folks. it was quick, no nonsense, and I was in and out within 3 minutes. I highly recommend them!

Great engine conversion on our VW and then absolutely outstanding followup service. After a Death Valley trip we noticed that heat from the exhaust system had damaged the timing belt cover. Although it had been two years since Metric Motors had installed a Subaru engine in our Vanagon they replaced the timing belt and cover and then installed a new heat shield all at their expense. I couldn't ask for better warranty service. Highly recommended.

If you want the job done right at a very fair price this is the place to have it done. Had the head completely rebuilt on my Honda element runs perfect easy to deal with.

Metric motors is a great shop to get work done. Chris is a very knowledgeable problem solver and can make basically anything work. Although ALL SHOPS do make some mistakes. Chris was more than willing to fix any issues i had 110%. That being said my builds were very unordinary and my issues were more like experiments. But at the end of the day i would recommend anybody to Metric motors.

Chris and the entire team at Metric Motors has been fantastic. They did an excellent job on my 87 Vanagon Syncro conversion with a 2.5 Subaru engine. They were helpful in the selection process, and provided excellent service throughout the project. I continue to work with the team for regular service. Metric Motors has taken care of my 2001 Subaru Outback sedan for many years. I recently went over 800,000 miles. Thanks to Mitch Chris and the entire team at metric Motors.

I almost gave them 5 stars. They did a awesome job on my 427 engine and charged exactly what they said they would. I believe them to be both competent and fair. There was only one misunderstanding, and I think it was more on the part of the guy that brought my engine to them and most likely not their fault. They were very courteous both before and after the rebuild and took time to talk to me long after the job was done. Highly recommend!

Metric Motors recommends customers visit this Facebook page to leave reviews after receiving service, or in our case, lack of service. In short, we got charged nearly $400 and they didn't resolve the check engine light. They charged $96 per hour. After excuses, they said they'd schedule us in when they have time... it's been well over a month now. Ultimately, we decided to go elsewhere and got the issue fixed. We are adding our experience first so that others are warned. Utah and Utahans deserve better.

Metric Motors is the best place to take your car! Services are never overpriced and any issue with your car is fixed for good! My family has been taking our cars there for years and they never fail to do a great job!

Had them build me a long block for a 06 wrx. Runs great! Super smooth! No shakes at idle. Builds good power. I had a few personal problems getting the motor to run but I called them any time I had a problem or question and it got it answered. Would definitely do business with them again! They built my whole motor from start to end in about 2 weeks. Very happy with the end product.

I had Metric Motors build my non typical hot rod engine. We ran into a few issues along the way being non typical, but the owner Chris kept me in the loop every step of the way. Once I got the engine in and running we found some special order parts that caused us some additional grief. Chris stood behind the work 100%. I would definitely recommend Metric Motors if you need heavy mechanical work done!!

We had a Subaru engine conversion done for our 1982 Vanagon, including conversion from air-cooled. We picked it up and took off on a 7000 mile road trip. After years of unreliability, we could hardly believe Mitch and Chris's confidence in it, but things went perfectly and we are finally living our dream with the van!

I bought a Subaru EJ22 long block from Metric Motors - has run strong for 2+ years now. When I put it together, it wouldn't run, and they figured out why for me (was using wrong cam sprocket - not even mechanics at Subaru in American Fork could figure that out). Later, after overheating and doing a head gasket job, they successfully helped me to diagnose engine ticking noise (it was bad valve adjustment job). I thought I was in for replacing the block, but they set me right. These two times have they bailed me out of out-of-commission circumstances. They share their knowledge and answer questions unlike most mechanics. The lady answering the phone was also very helpful, kindly getting me to explain what problems I had caused myself. Without that, Chris wouldn't have been able to help me as he did. So five stars to the whole outfit.

My whole family goes here for all their vehicle troubles. If you are shopping around for a trusting auto repair shop, this is the one you won t want to move away from, or you ll find it worth your time to make the trips for their service. It s truly exceptional.

Wow. There are so many words to describe metric motors but I truly don t believe they have created a word that would best explains such a phenomenal and caring place! Anytime I have had an issue with my car, they have been diligent in getting it fixed and are super fair in pricing!! Always kind and courteous, they have a client for life! I took my car to a garage and they used these guys to have work done on my engine. With in few month, my check engine light came on and seeing how it was under warrenty, I thought they would take care of it. It took 4 days and $74 to just figure out the problem. I thought warrenty would cover for the engine they worked on, but in fact, wanted to charge me another couple hundred dollars to fix it. I didn't have my car for few days and after $74, my car was not fixed. I just mentioned what car was doing to another gargage and they were able to give me a knowledgable answer. If you have a choice, do not go here.

These guys are awesome. I brought my '81 motorcycle head in, and they did a complete top end rebuild. It took them about a week, no trouble. They specialize in Subaru engines, but they took my kawasaki head without hesitation. They were professional, answered all my dumb questions, and my favorite part- at the end of the day, the amount they quoted me was the amount I paid. Would definitely recommend.

I got a rebuilt engine from them a yr ago. Car started to have other issues, but the mechanics looked at my car at no charge, and only mechanics who knew what the issue was.I would recommend these guys. Great service and will continue to do business with them.
