Their pizza selection is great. They even can provide sandwiches on the same sour dough used for their pizzas which is also good.

Not much space inside, but it becomes much less cramped in the summer time as there is outside seating.

A very enjoyable place to eat.

Disappointing. I read all the positive reviews about Menomale and expected a great neapolitan pizza. Instead, I found gas-station-microwave-slice mediocrity. My pizza was undercooked, soggy, and sliding around in the box. I had to put it in the oven at home for another 10 minutes, and it still wasn't that good.

What I liked most about Menomale is how unassuming it is. It doesn't stand out despite being the only restaurant of it's kind in the neighborhood, but the food is good, the drinks are good, the staff is friendly, and the vibe is friendly. It's not the best food if its kind even among DC restaurants, but you'll leave satisfied and be glad you went.

I think of this as my upscale, "I don't want to cook tonight" place. Prices may be a little high for random Tuesday nights but the food justifies the expense. I particularly recommend the seafood salad appetizer - delicious and a generous portion. The pizza is also in my DC top three. Highly recommend!

Incredible pizza that tastes like the best of Italy. The crust is absolute heaven! I can't recommend this place enough, such a gem. The staff is always kind and helpful, and the setting is quaint and comfortable. This is a treasure of DC.

This was really delicious pizza, perfect combo of cheese, sauce, and crust. Also, great drink variety selection.

Beware, it is a very small space. We waited two hours, for four people, to be seated, and received fairly poor service after that.

Try a week night if you're hungry. If you're happy to wait, plow on through to the weekend (they don't take reservations).

This is absolutely a hidden gem of Washington DC. The pizza here is absolutely fantastic. Everything I had while I was here was really great. The wait staff and bartenders were all very friendly and helpful. It's a great hole in the wall date spot. I will say that we did have to wait a short time since there are so few tables inside and they don't take reservations. However in warmer weather there is more seats outside which I imagine would increase the capacity of what they're able to accommodate. Highly recommended.

I visited Menomale simply on its ratings. It is totally understandable why so many before me gave 5 Stars. If I were 30 minutes earlier or 30 minutes later, I probably would have done the same.

I walked in on Friday afternoon, Sept 15th. The service even though I was ordering for take out was perfect. I really could not have asked for more.

They were moderately busy and the hostess focused on me, went over the menu and explained everything. It took about 10 to 15 minutes to prepare my two pizzas. I'm not sure how long of a wait it was as I was not timing them.

During the wait, I was invited to sit at the bar, watch TV and have a drink by three different servers. I really felt at home.

While waiting, there was a couple who had a small baby and the baby was really whiny. I know, there is absolutely nothing management can do but Menomale is a small, very small place and customers who sat the tables were visibly disturbed. The folks with the baby should probably have had there food packed up and done carryout.

Also, one of the servers was loudly complaining how long he had been working and only had two tables. Not a good thing to do with your client base sitting in front of you.

The pizza was fantastic. The dough and all of the toppings were obviously freshly prepared. The was no hint of anything frozen.

I will definitely return and give them an opportunity to earn the 5 Stars they deserve.

Not bad, but not great. I'm spoiled because of my real Italian restaurant across the street. But crust was good, too much red pepper too little salami, could have been cheesier. Friendly wait staff. I think the stools are trying for a hipster look but comfort should rule over style.

Awesome! The best pizza in DC! The restaurant has a very clean, streamlined and cozy appearance. Great pizza, craft beers, regional wines, salads. Antipasti- try the Coccio - my fave! Everything is prepared with high quality, authentic Italian ingredients by a specially trained chef, who is a certified Neapolitan pizzaiolo and makes pizza dough second to none. The red streetside patio is great for warm weather and even cold weather too! Convenient street parking. Definitely worth the drive!

Used to be absolutely amazing pizzeria with Italian chefs. Now has turned into ordinary pizzeria with very overpriced pizza for the quality and pricey drinks. Would be happy to return once Italians are back.

It's a very homey space. We arrived and had a good 20 minute wait for a table for four. We we're sat inside, two.seats on the wall bench and two on stools. They were busy, the table next to is had time to order and get their food! That's when their waiter noticed we still had our menus. When he checked in with us we mentioned we wanted our orders to go, instead of sticking around. He convinced us he could get our order in and out quickly... and he did! Between the express (and delicious) pizzas and the complimentary desserts (AMAZING lemon sorbetto and canolis!!!!), their customer service really won us over. Cannot wait to go back.

Easily the best in DC

Easily the best in DC

There is nothing spectacular about the place, staff or organization, except for the pizza. Proper Neopolitan pizza, fresh ingredients, dough baked perfectly. I'd write a longer review, but the essence of Neopolitan pizza is simplicity and finally a DC pizzeria gets it right.

Cozy neapolitan pizza place in Brookland with lots of free street parking options. Great date night place, really good pizza. Appetizers are small, but good rotating beer selection with local brewers (e.g. Right Proper). Try the Brooklandisima or Quattro Formaggi

I was stationed at Naval Support Activity Naples in Italy before receiving orders to Washington, DC.

This restaurant is certified Vero Pizza a certification that is only given by Neapolitan Pizzolas - pizza certification board. It s as authentic a Neapolitan pie as you re going to get outside of the Campania region. Shoot... even Romans don t have Vero Pizza!

The pizza is excellent and the staff was attentive. We were spoiled in Naples, a pie cost like 5, so the prices were a little higher, but supply and demand. Everyone and their mother is a vero pizza pizzola in Naples.

The pizza place Menomale is one of the best italian style pizza in Washington DC ,they have good selection of beers and a great white wine that goes very good with the food.

The people who work there are very friendly and the service is good.
They have tables inside and outside, Menomale is the kind of place were they can make your pizza fast and don't have to wait long time.

I recommend Menomale if you are a good pizza lover, is located in Brookland NE DC near by Rhode Island metro red line.

Cheers!

Danny

Pizza was delicious, fresh thin crust, generous toppings. Also tried 2-3 appetizers that were very good. Service was excellent - our server Jose took great care of our group and when some items took a while to come (we hadn't even noticed time passing by:) he gave us a dish on the house.

I was looking for somewhere to watch the Redskins and Eagles game. Found them while driving on my way downtown. Called. They were polite on the phone. The place was full. I sat at the bar and the bartender Tanesha was very nice snd has been there for 3 years.. The pizza ingredients are very fresh. The sauce has a very adult taste and the crust is sooooo soft. Like eating fresh baked bread. Lots of beer on tap and top shelf drinks. No sports on the big screen. I understand it's not a sports bar and if they were showing sports well it would change the feel. This spot is for locals that want to eat good pizza, drink and not be far from home. Bon Apetit.

I tried! Twice. Three different pizzas (chef's special, salsiccia, capricciosa) and two different apps (one salad, and one bruschetta). All were disappointing. The pizza? Great edges conceal a thin, soggy middle. Sure, put good canned tomatoes and fresh mozz on dough and it's fine! I do it often. But for $15, I want to be impressed. The bruschetta? Skip. Three mediocre slices for $8?

Conclusion: Go to Trader Joes, buy what could pass as the exact same ingredients, and do a good job yourself for 10% of the cost. <_>

Fantastic pizza...beats Two Amy's and Red Rocks hands down. While I love red rocks crust, their toppings are uninspired...not so with Menomale. In addition to this, bartender JB is an awe-mazin-mixologist. He'll whip you up a super fine cocktail that will tantilize your tastebuds. The beer list is seriously brilliant. Also, if you want more bread with your pizza order the infused olive oils before your meal. I havent tried their sandwiches, but they look delicious and are made with bread from the same crust/oven as the pizza so I'm sure they'd delight. The space is small, so on the weekends you might want to show up early to beat the crowds. Also, they have outdoor seating, so lovely for a few fancy beers in the afternoon. This place is worth heading over to Brookland to check out! OH and if you save room for dessert make sure to get their gelato swirled with limoncello...it's to die for!

Well you don't need 2k anymore to go to Napoli and have great pizza. Menomale is hands down the best pizza in DC.
Dc is over run with crappy pizza but now real pizza is there. It was such a breath of fresh air to find such a great place.

I love this pizza place! It's neopolitan pizza (tho I've been to Naples/Pompei and the pizza is very different than what menomale several), making this restaurant one of the most unique pizza joints in DC. It's ideal to go in warmer seasons when you can sit out on their lovely patio. When I went most recently, the inside was a bit cramped and loud but that's no fault of Menomale, simply the reality of dinning at small resuraunts in colder months. The service can be a bit sluggish, but I've always seem the same servers, meaning they retain staff, which always makes for a better experience for everyone. The staff is always very cheery and helpful as well. Regardless of my minor nitpicks, this place still gets 5 stars from me because of the overall welcoming attitude and the absolutely incredible pizza.

One final note: last time I was there (3 days ago as of writing) I overheard a fellow dinner refer to the neighborhood as sketchy. Let me assure you: Brookland is NOT sketchy, and in particular 12th and Franklin St. NE is not a sketchy intersection. It's perfectly safe.

Cozy neighborhood restaurant with decent Neapolitan pizza, great wine, and delicious bread! Touted with DOC/VPN Neapolitan certification, the Margherita pizza looked so scrumptious and promising, but underdelivered with poor execution. Although the ingredients were spot on, the tomatoes were too ripe and the pizza wasn't crispy and undercooked, and didn't have the pillowy crust that I had hoped for. There was something left to be desired.

The crispy focaccia herb bread was the highlight of my meal! I ordered the assortment of cured meats for my husband which came with homemade focaccia bread. The flatbread with olive oil sprinkled with herbs was bursting with flavor and among the best bread I've had. My husband enjoyed the salami and prosciutto and salami. The app also comes with goat cheese, red peppers, and olives.

For $15, the cured meats is a much better deal than the cheese sampler. Highly recommend the cured meats or just the focaccia bread!

I was disappointed with the cheese sampler. The dense scraps of crust and modest samples of hard cheeses (asiago, pecorino, ricotta, and a type of red wine cheese) were underwhelming. The grapes and honey were a miss and didn't quite complement the cheeses. I think olives, nuts, jams, and a variety of fruits would have elevated the flavor and paired better.

The Aglianico Wine was delicious. So glad that I snagged the last bottle! I couldn't find the bottle at Total Wine, would love to buy another bottle and enjoy it at home!

I love the casual family-owned restaurant and local neighborhood vibe, I just wish the pizza was as good as the bread!

Place was busy we sat at the bar still great service and drinks! Is a small place so plan ahead. The pizza just the right size and filling one is great for two but if your hunger order two!

Pizza was really nice with fresh toppings. The Focaccia Bread isn't Focaccia Bread. It's only the pizza crust. I think you should either change the name or update the recipe. Focaccia Bread is doughy and delicious. This was more a pita.

I liked it--I think I was too caught up in all of the hype to really fully appreciate it I think. It was just as good as most other high end brick oven pizza spots, so I would definitely recommend it. It is a wonderful addition to Brookland and hopefully it will drive more new business into the northeastern side of the city.

Authentic southern Italian pizza place;the sauce was delicious and the crust was perfect. Am not a fan of chewy dough though, I like mine cooked slow and crisp. The place is getting to be really crowded but it's really a good taste of Italy! The staff were very helpful and did their jobs well. Defnitely going back to try the other dishes..
