This is a very nice place. It is very large and takes a long time to get through but it is kept very clean. I was impressed by how clean it was especially in the bathroom. There were lots of different things you could do and different restaurants to choose from. I ate at 6 and 8 and the food was very delicious although I was little taken back by a bowl of soup a drink and potstickers costing me $26. The staff was okay they were a little distracted with talking to each other and my food was a little sloppy however it was very tasty. One young lady that was working outside helped show me the way to places that I was trying to go and I really appreciated her help especially since I am disabled and have a hard time getting around. Overall the place is very nice and I place that I will visit again

We come here in February to the Auto Show. It's just crazy what you have to pay to park in the garage, and at the top of the roof in the weather. It was something like $20 $25. I think that's crazy. Then they charge you to get in the Auto Show. I can see why they charge so much, there is so much wasted space in there.

Spacious and accommodating. The floors are carpeted concrete so if you have to walk long distances or stand in place for a long period of time wear comfortable shoes. The staff is kind and helpful, the place is clean.

Huge, be prepared to walk. Very clean restrooms, snack machines ( very pricey), a few places to eat. Short walk to Chinatown, we walked there for lunch. Very busy for conventions. Be cautious crossing street, drivers don't always follow lights or crossing guards directions. Not sure I would drive there, we used a hotel shuttle bus. Parking was expensive according to others we spoke too. Lots of Ubers and taxis along with public transportation.

The building is huge. It was clean, as were the bathrooms. Good selection of food, although there could be more space to sit.

The layout is very confusing though. There are parts of the building inaccessible by certain staircases. Other areas you have to go up, walk across the building and then go back down stairs in order to walk across a single floor.

I was here to pick up the numbers for the Chicargo Marathon. A typical fairground. There are enough toilets and the connection / accessibility by taxi / Uber was good. From the east side of the building you have a great view over the lake - highly recommended as a photo spot.

This place is very big but it's definitely not easy getting lost. The entrances are nice and staff are ready to direct when there is an event going on. I came here for the Chicago Auto Show and everything was nicely planned. The place also conveniently has food chains for meals.

Great venue for the Nike Tournament of Champions girls AAU basketball tournament. 80 courts setup in a great hall. Clean rest rooms, many food options onsite. Plenty of transportation options that connect McCormick Place to the rest of the Chicago infrastructure.

About McCormick Place Rooftop Garden

McCormick Place Rooftop Garden: A Green Oasis in the Heart of Chicago

McCormick Place is a name that resonates with anyone who has ever attended a convention or trade show in Chicago. As the largest and most flexible use convention center in North America, McCormick Place has hosted countless events over the years, from political conventions to auto shows to medical conferences. But what many people don't know is that McCormick Place is also home to one of the city's best-kept secrets: a stunning rooftop garden that offers visitors a peaceful respite from the hustle and bustle of downtown.

The McCormick Place Rooftop Garden was created as part of an ambitious sustainability initiative launched by the convention center in 2007. The goal was to transform McCormick Place into a model for sustainable urban development, and one of the key components of this effort was the creation of an expansive green roof on top of one of its buildings.

Today, the McCormick Place Rooftop Garden covers more than 2.5 acres and features over 20,000 plants representing more than 100 species native to Illinois. The garden is divided into several distinct areas, each with its own unique character and purpose.

One section features raised beds filled with vegetables and herbs that are used by chefs at McCormick Place's restaurants. Another area showcases native prairie grasses and wildflowers, providing habitat for birds and insects while also helping to manage stormwater runoff.

Visitors can stroll along winding paths through lush gardens filled with colorful blooms or relax on benches overlooking Lake Michigan while taking in stunning views of downtown Chicago's skyline. Interpretive signs throughout the garden provide information about sustainable landscaping practices as well as details about specific plant species.

But perhaps what makes the McCormick Place Rooftop Garden truly special is its role as a living laboratory for sustainable design practices. The garden serves as a testing ground for new technologies such as green roofs, rain gardens, permeable pavement systems, and other innovative approaches to managing stormwater runoff.

In addition to providing an oasis for visitors seeking respite from city life, this green roof also helps reduce energy consumption within McCormick place by insulating against heat loss during winter months while reducing cooling costs during summer months through evapotranspiration processes which cools down surrounding air temperatures naturally without using any energy-intensive equipment like air conditioners or fans.

The rooftop garden has received numerous awards since it opened in 2008 including recognition from Green Roofs For Healthy Cities (GRHC) which named it "Green Roof Project Of The Year" award winner at their annual conference held in Boston back then; it has been featured on national television programs such as PBS' "Growing A Greener World" series; it even made headlines when former President Barack Obama visited during his time at office!

In conclusion,

The McCormick place rooftop garden stands out not only because it provides visitors with breathtaking views but also because it serves as an example for how cities can incorporate sustainable design practices into their infrastructure projects without sacrificing aesthetics or functionality.
It’s no wonder why this hidden gem continues attracting tourists worldwide who want nothing but peace amidst nature’s beauty!
