I had an excellent experience at the 2020 Chicago Auto Show. The staff did an excellent job on keeping the presentation floor clean. The choice of all the food vendors were excellent and really represented Chicago s diverse food options.

I really don't like the parking, it's such a long walk through the dark underbelly of the place. But at least there's no homeless encampments down there anymore like there were in the 90s. Otherwise it was a decent visit to the annual sailboat show.

Parking spaces are large and the garage has a simple, easy to navigate layout. Pathways between the many exibition halls are clearly marked. Architecture is spectacular. Even a single room here is breathtakingly large.

Excellent trade show venue, very clean, staffed well, and organized. I've been to many different types of trade shows here over the years and I'm always impressed. Pro tip: the metra electric line stops under the building, take this to save on parking costs.

The building is as good as it gets for conventions, however the cab lines are long, the buss's are full, and loading/unloading for the shows is always a bit of a pain. Lacking good information on the site of exhibitors, we had to figure everything out the hard way. Its much easier the 2nd time around when you know all the silly hoops that you have to jump thru to get anything done.

Visited the McCormick Place for the 2020 Auto Show. I always expect it to busy and crowded because of course it's an auto show. The show was excellent seeing all the new cars and new concepts unveiled. My only gripe was the parking and getting into the show. Chicago hosts the auto show every year at the same time and you would think that getting around to get parking would improve but No no no. It took half hour to get to a parking area. One of the traffic guides mislead us back to the expressway and had blocked the entrance to head the the parking lots. After coming around again the person that threw us off the first go round was gone. Finally we get the parking lot C and it was full. This parking attendant told us to follow the cars in front to another parking lot but couldn't tell us which one. After all said and done we parked at one of the Soliders Field lots and got a shuttle ride to the McCormick place. Advice for future traffic management need to have better communication between each other and the drivers. Again the Auro Show awesome.

I visited this place for a chemistry conference and was taken aback by the amazing architecture and design of the facility. They have a huge exposition floor and numerous rooms for presentations all over the building. The restrooms are medium sized and modern and there is copious amount of ambient light coming through the gargantuan windows surrounding the building. The location is a very short walk to Chinatown and other great places to eat.

The biggest drawbacks are the confounded street design surrounding the place, the price of parking, and the price of food. After paying several hundred dollars just to get in, I didn't expect to also pay a 50% markup just to get a coffee.

This is going way back to the winter 1995 I was work for company as truck driver we were setting up at the convention center for boat show. I were setting up when somebody tap me on my shoulder I turned around gentlemen says I'll be working with you! I said that's okay we got it, no you don't understand we're the union and I'll be helping you. having zero experience with unions at the time my supervisor who walked back to the union room he came back about 30 minutes later he simply said "I got my ass kicked" three men helped us they mostly walked away ever come back a couple hours later to do a few minutes <10min of work and then again walk away. These three Union men could not set up an aluminium 5' staircase in 8+ hr, it took me the first time 1.5hr with experience a month later down to one hour. I'm believe in unions but not when is nothing more that a no-show job. The boat show was fantastic, on couple of my days off I walked around. I don't fish but the boat show was interesting.

About McCormick Place Rooftop Garden

McCormick Place Rooftop Garden: A Green Oasis in the Heart of Chicago

McCormick Place is a name that resonates with anyone who has ever attended a convention or trade show in Chicago. As the largest and most flexible use convention center in North America, McCormick Place has hosted countless events over the years, from political conventions to auto shows to medical conferences. But what many people don't know is that McCormick Place is also home to one of the city's best-kept secrets: a stunning rooftop garden that offers visitors a peaceful respite from the hustle and bustle of downtown.

The McCormick Place Rooftop Garden was created as part of an ambitious sustainability initiative launched by the convention center in 2007. The goal was to transform McCormick Place into a model for sustainable urban development, and one of the key components of this effort was the creation of an expansive green roof on top of one of its buildings.

Today, the McCormick Place Rooftop Garden covers more than 2.5 acres and features over 20,000 plants representing more than 100 species native to Illinois. The garden is divided into several distinct areas, each with its own unique character and purpose.

One section features raised beds filled with vegetables and herbs that are used by chefs at McCormick Place's restaurants. Another area showcases native prairie grasses and wildflowers, providing habitat for birds and insects while also helping to manage stormwater runoff.

Visitors can stroll along winding paths through lush gardens filled with colorful blooms or relax on benches overlooking Lake Michigan while taking in stunning views of downtown Chicago's skyline. Interpretive signs throughout the garden provide information about sustainable landscaping practices as well as details about specific plant species.

But perhaps what makes the McCormick Place Rooftop Garden truly special is its role as a living laboratory for sustainable design practices. The garden serves as a testing ground for new technologies such as green roofs, rain gardens, permeable pavement systems, and other innovative approaches to managing stormwater runoff.

In addition to providing an oasis for visitors seeking respite from city life, this green roof also helps reduce energy consumption within McCormick place by insulating against heat loss during winter months while reducing cooling costs during summer months through evapotranspiration processes which cools down surrounding air temperatures naturally without using any energy-intensive equipment like air conditioners or fans.

The rooftop garden has received numerous awards since it opened in 2008 including recognition from Green Roofs For Healthy Cities (GRHC) which named it "Green Roof Project Of The Year" award winner at their annual conference held in Boston back then; it has been featured on national television programs such as PBS' "Growing A Greener World" series; it even made headlines when former President Barack Obama visited during his time at office!

In conclusion,

The McCormick place rooftop garden stands out not only because it provides visitors with breathtaking views but also because it serves as an example for how cities can incorporate sustainable design practices into their infrastructure projects without sacrificing aesthetics or functionality.
It’s no wonder why this hidden gem continues attracting tourists worldwide who want nothing but peace amidst nature’s beauty!
