About Maryhurst

For children across Kentucky suffering from neglect and abuse, Maryhurst is where healing begins. Find out more about what we do – and what you can do.

Maryhurst: A Beacon of Hope for Neglected and Abused Children in Kentucky

Maryhurst is a non-profit organization that has been serving the children of Kentucky since 1843. The organization was founded by the Sisters of the Good Shepherd, who were committed to providing a safe haven for young girls who had been abandoned or neglected. Today, Maryhurst continues to provide hope and healing to children across Kentucky who have suffered from neglect and abuse.

At Maryhurst, we believe that every child deserves a safe and loving home. Unfortunately, many children in our community are not fortunate enough to have this basic need met. They may come from broken homes or be victims of physical or emotional abuse. Whatever their circumstances may be, these children need help – and that's where Maryhurst comes in.

Our mission is simple: we strive to provide a nurturing environment where children can heal from their past traumas and build brighter futures for themselves. We offer a range of services designed to meet the unique needs of each child we serve.

One of our primary programs is residential care, which provides round-the-clock support for children who cannot live with their families due to safety concerns or other issues. Our residential facilities are staffed by trained professionals who work tirelessly to create a warm and welcoming environment where kids can feel safe and secure.

In addition to residential care, we also offer therapeutic services such as counseling, art therapy, music therapy, equine therapy, and more. These services are designed to help kids process their emotions in healthy ways so they can move forward with confidence.

Another important aspect of our work at Maryhurst is family preservation. We recognize that many families face challenges that make it difficult for them to provide adequate care for their children – but we also believe that every family deserves support so they can stay together whenever possible. That's why we offer programs like intensive in-home services (which provide counseling and other supports directly within the family's home) as well as foster care placement (which allows kids to live with loving families while maintaining connections with their birth families).

At Maryhurst, we know that healing takes time – but we also know that it's possible when kids have access to the right resources and support systems. That's why our team works tirelessly every day on behalf of the young people we serve.
