Article was as described and at at a great price. My only complaint is their shipping arrangement. They use UPS (which is good) but the shipping price was shockingly high. Unless they package and ship themselves there is no way to factor in this expense (a 12" redware plate for $60).

On a quest for a couple of final touches for our new home, I discovered Winter Associates for the first time last month. Having been in the auction business in NYC and the Berkshires many years ago, I was excited to venture back into the inimitable world of dealers, collectors, interior decorators and other folk of all kinds united in their interest in buying and/or selling property with a past. When I arrived for the Monday viewing before the sale, I was delighted to find abundant parking in front of the Winter building and a warm gallery just inside full of an eclectic array of furniture, decorative objects, art and other collectables arranged in appealing, booth-like settings--something for almost any taste and category, spanning four centuries and from around the globe. The staff was welcoming, knowledgeable and helpful answering my questions. The catalogue descriptions and estimates seemed accurate and fair. On a wall above an elegant 18 C. Italian carved walnut sofa, I found an early giltwood mirror perfect for placement above a chest of drawers in my new house. I decided to leave an absentee bid on it, so I wouldn't get carried away during the live bidding:) I did stay for the beginning of the evening auction and found Linda Stamm to be a lively, engaging, expert auctioneer who moved at just the right pace supported by an efficient and cheerful team of runners and clerks. I enjoyed chatting about the current market with a friendly dealer behind me, a regular there who helped me decide how high a bid to leave on "my" mirror--which is indeed now hanging in my house, sold to me in absentia for an increment below its high estimate plus the buyer's premium. Very satisfying and trust-inducing. Bright and early the next morning I got email notification from Gina Gasper about my success and I went the next day to collect my purchase--a swift and easy process. I look forward to returning frequently to Winter Associates, as a buyer and perhaps a seller, and I highly recommend them to you.

Linda Stamm manages to present an eclectic group of vintage and antique items from the quaint and whimsical to extremely valuable antiques. Whether you are looking for silver, furniture, artwork, books, toys, jewelry or general collectibles, her selection each month fills all the categories. Her knowledge is vast but she doesn't hesitate to bring in specific experts when necessary to ensure that items are properly described. She and her staff (more about them in a moment) carefully inspect, describe and photograph the items she offers and they are all very careful to call out any defects or authenticity issues so that her customers can bid with confidence. She is probably the most honest auctioneer we know and is also generous with her time which she donates to worthy causes to serve as a volunteer auctioneer for fund-raising events. Her staff is warm, friendly and knowledgeable and always happy to assist in any aspect from our review of items, placing bids and post-auction services. We see many of the same faces in the audience (some of whom we are in constant friendly competition with) month after month, year after year and that speaks more eloquently than my words.

These people were downright rude when i arrived to pick up a small table. No one offered to help me put it in the car. The woman who took payment was also extremely curt and abrupt. I will never do business with these people again.

This auction house offers a range of estate material from upscale designer furnishings to important antiques, paintings, and jewelry, all carefully curated and presented. There is no dirty junk to wade through and no fakes and reproductions, so one can buy with confidence here. While top prices equal to major NYC auction houses are generally the rule here for important items, there are always plenty of bargains to be had for dealers',collectors, and the general public. While internet bidding only auctions seem to be a thing these days, fortunately this auction house hasn't succumbed, and there is always a lively crowd on Monday nights.
