Beautiful hotel, friendly staff. Great view when the fog settled.
Because I am young I guess, I was treated horribly and told I wasn t allowed to park at the hotel. Not sure why. Definitely the first thing I wanted to after checking in at 2am was walk a half a mile back to my hotel from the parking garage they sent me to across the street would have been nice to have been told there was no parking when I got there. Not a oh by the way we have nowhere for you to park your car once I m done checking in. Unprofessional, would not recommend staying, carpets are dirty anyways.
Magestic building at the top of a hill with stunning views from the bar at the top of the hotel. We were treated to an upmarket packed lunch for an early start with the group I was with. I wasn't totally impressed with the buffet breakfast although there was a wide selection. Staff helpful at all times. I love the atmosphere of the place - the lobby, my room, reception, the bar. Definitely worth coming back to.
For me this was a 4.5 star stay. I mean how can it get much better..? Clean Bathroom, clean bed I could crawl into. Clean floor. Could not hear the baby down the hall in the room, only when I walked out. I loved this hotel and it had a really old school vibe too in some places. I stayed at the Omni my last trip to San Fran, but over all I like the Mark Hopkins better. The location is awesome, the views are killer, and the park across the street is an awesome place to relax :) .. um yeah and if you like girls this area is full of beauties haha. Anyways I will be taking my wife down to San Fran some day and this is most likely where we will stay, if we don't need "5 star" accommodations.. Oh my ONLY complaints are the pillows should be upgraded to memory foam and the soaps in these hotels should be VEGAN!! :) Thanks for all the free little things I received during my stay as well.
Wish we stayed here, WOW the views! Classic hotel at the top of the city...
It's worth the upgrade to get access to the executive lounge. Great food and drinks all included in there!
Great landmark hotel. Whether you're a visitor or live a half block away (me) the Top of the Mark is a must for cocktails
Love this hotel. Great location with cable cars outside the doors. Good food and staff. Always my first choice.
The place is amazing if you have a chance to stay there do it
Classic San Francisco hotel. Rooms are a good size and well appointed, but not particularly new. Staff was friendly and helpful.
We decided to get a few drinks before dinner at another location. Wow! The view was spectacular and the bartender was amazing and knew how to pour drinks. We will definitely be back to experience their food soon.
Stayed here for a conference and it was beautiful. Great service and location. I did have a tiny window which needed to be cleaned, but the top of the stairs is a penthouse with city views.
Great hotel, great service, the carpets in the hallway had a bit of smell, but not too much
Unfortunately I cannot recommend staying here. My stay was neither terrible nor great. I have no major complaints, nor major compliments. The room was adequate but small. It had some "old building" charm, but that comes with only one easily accessible power outlet. Our window faced the bay, but was blocked by other buildings. The breakfast buffet was very good, but billing was confusing (it was to be included with the room price but my wife and I received a bill for over $80). The best way I can say it is that this is a 5 out of 10 hotel at a 7 out of 10 price.
This should be better ... But lots of staff need some reminders about being friendly to their guests
Very good service and very good food. The comedian was very funny.
For the price of the rooms are small but quite nice. It has very good views from the windows and the staff is very attentive. When I first came to check in early they had my room ready which was nice but rushed me along hastily without too much information. Seems kind of odd because it wasn't that busy but I would assume that is how the staff typically operates. The restaurant downstairs is rarely open and the top of the Mark Restaurant is a bit overpriced with a limited menu but overall I think you are mainly paying for the views / real estate.
It was a nice stay, hodwever for being one of the oldest/nicest hotels I didn't expect to see traces of hair in the bathroom. Internet services cost about $14 per day I'd you're not a member and $57+ tax per day of valet parking which is the only way to park there.
Always a nice place to stay but this time the attendents were a little bit less attentive than usual . It maybe due to covid procedures. Either way its always a beautiful view from our room and that in itself makes up for small misgivings.
Amazing views and good drinks at the Top of the Mark
I know it is a historical hotel so will allow a lot to slide. The rooms are smaller than newer hotels but still OK size. For the price; if not a company preferred location; I would have probably stayed somewhere more modern. This is obviously a personal preference though.
The rooms were clean and well kept. Only complaint were the prices of ammenities such as water....but that's expected in Union square
I wouldn't be able to as I didn't receive any of the above
Well kept for an older hotel. Staff was excellent and very professional. Beds were comfortable where I slept 20 uninterrupted hours, which is a testament to the comfort. I can never sleep more than 6 hours on hotel beds.
Hotel is lovely, classic nob hill hotel. Top of the Mark has an amazing view, but the bar area is a little stuffy, small, expensive and not convenient for groups to mingle. We did not eat.
Absolutely amazing stay! Beautiful hotel, great staff, breathtaking views, comfortable beds & delicious variety of food.
Iconic hotel, beautiful building in a top neighborhood. Rooms are spacious, staff are friendly and helpful. Considering the cost there are other choices which might be better depending on what you're looking for.. However the Top of the Mark is one of a kind.
Room is spacious , bathroom is great. Concierge has very good recommendations for restaurants and sightseeing . Would love to come back
The place is nice enough, has some relatively spacious rooms, given that it is SFO. Location is a little tough only because it's on top of a literally vertical street but if you cab it's not so bad. I liked the restaurant at the top of the hotel, it's a good option if you want to say in. we ordered a variety of sushi and tapas and I think I would recommend most of the options. Service was good, ask the waiter for recommendations.
This place is horrible. I can't understand how this hotel is supposed to be a "4 Diamond" hotel. The parking situation here is an absolute nightmare and expensive. The building is old, but that doesnt mean it cant look nice. It looks old, outdated, and is very unaccomodating. There was mold on my bathroom sink and a previous person's toothpaste on the wall. My ac didnt work in my room and I tried two times to have it fixed or moved with no result. I opened the windows to let in some air since the ac doesnt work and it causes the door to the room to make this very loud and annoying whistle. The beds are very uncomfortable. I believe there's a rubber sheet on the bed. And one of the pillows was so hard and lumpy. There's no mini fridge in the room which is annoying. The do not disturb notification is impossible to find. I had to call down to the front desk thinking my do not disturb sign was missing but they had to explain it was built into the ac. So unintuitive. There's no power ports by the beds. So you have to unplug the lamps to charge your phone, which means you don't have light in your room in the evening time. I will never stay here again.
Loved it. Absolutely loved it.
Gorgeous hotel full of history.
Located in probably the most beautiful and night-end neighborhood of SFO.
Check-in and check-our were we re smooth.
Staff was helpful and caring.
Room was clean and beautiful with everything you might need for a pleasant stay and even more.
Bed was extremely comfortable.
Breakfast was delicious and worth its $35.
Would love to come back!
Elegant. Quiet. Amazing views, well appointed rooms. However you have to pay for wi fi which is a turn off in this day and age.
Food, breakfast especially is outrageously over priced. $79 breakfast buffet for 2.
Other wise nice location
Old...a little outdated...would recommend the Howard street Intercontinental instead.
Didn't stay at the hotel, but there was a very nice lobby area. The turn in for valet is on the corner near the crosswalk, so be observant when walking near the hotel.
Unexpectedly great food at our company dinner. Drinks were just OK
Nice place, amazing views, great customer service and wonderful housekeeping staff. Would recommend. They offer complimentary door to door car service to Union and Financial District, but w e either walked to Union or used lyft and uber to get around, way cheaper and convenient than BART, Muni, trolley, cable car. Plus, first time users check sites for lyft and uber discounts. We got (4) rides $5 off each ride. All together we saved $80 on (16) rides because we.opened account on each of our phones. SFO to hotel cost us $30 family of 4, to Fisherman's Wharf $10... No need to worry about parking fees.
I really wanted to love this place. Every *person* I interacted with was great: housekeeping, bell staff, door men, concierge, desk staff were all unfailingly polite. I really felt that they went out of their way to be helpful.
Unfortunately, the rooms did not live up to the staff. The bed escaped being the most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept on only because I've slept on those awful folding couches where the support bar is in the middle of your back. I'm pretty sure that I've slept better on the ground in some places. I get that I can't necessarily expect the same quality of mattress as I have at home, but I don't exactly have a premium mattress. For the room price, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a bed that is at least a step or two above a motel 6. It's been a long time since I slept in a motel 6, but I'm pretty sure the bed wouldn't pass muster there.
The rest of the room was pretty much what you might expect from a chain hotel. The bathroom was laid out rather awkwardly, but overall was tolerable.
In the end, if you want to experience a bit of history, it might be worth it, but I wouldn't recommend this hotel if you're actually paying regular price for it. Especially if you are planning to stay multiple nights. I booked on a conference rate for 5 nights, so I was kind of stuck; because of the conference, I didn't have time to mention it to the staff to see what they would do. When I checked in, I was offered an upgraded room (for additional cost, of course...), but even at a conference rate, I shouldn't have to pay extra to get a decent night's sleep.
Absolutely beautiful view of the city! Great drinks and wonderful atmosphere.
I have so much love for this gem of a grand historical hotel of San Francisco. I wish the owners would show it the love it deserves. It badly needs TLC. Interiors look like they haven t been painted in years, my porcelain sink in the suite was cracked throughout, and it just looks like it hasn t had general maintenance let alone a more modernized/fresh interior. Please IHG, show this Grande Dame some love and give her a refresh!
Top of the Mark has the best views in town and quality drinks/ food.
Amazing view! Food was delicious and some of the best drinks in the city! Staff was knowledgeable and super helpful!
I went to visit a guest, enjoyed a drinks at the top with a beautiful view of San Francisco.
The beds are as old as the hotel... you can clearly see each side of the bed sink in.
asked front desk for water , was referred to restaurant, asked them for water they said I need to purchase it, asked them for just a cup of water as it was just to take some medicine, host at front of restaurant took the effort to roll his eyes go all the way to the kitchen to pour HALF a cup of water from their sink. Handed me my water saying "here's your water" with all the attitude of a child. If you're going to spend the money stay at the Fairmont across the street!
Such a bad hotel. Concierge arrogant with attitude. Everything expensive; designed to take as much off you as possible with the least possible class. Room service food competes with cat food and airline food for least tasty and healthy fare on the planet. Avoid this hotel at all costs; there are plenty of better options.
Well appointed, comfortable hotel, if not a little bit stuffy. Very traditional style that hasn't adopted the chic new concepts being adopted in many other hotels, like modern lobby layouts and other styling outside the room.
Vintage hotel with a great location and view. Watch out for steep hills!
The price is invincible. Just want to ask, can you find a four-star hotel with a price of one or two hundred in San Francisco? The answer is absolutely impossible. The hotel was built in 1926 and has not been refurbished for a long time. The equipment is a bit old, but the service is good and the basic needs are met.
Focus on this, staying here, must go to their sky bar, very famous, day and night views are very beautiful, there are live bands on weekends, hotel guests can also avoid entrance fees.
The only downside is that the traffic is not convenient. Although it is located in the downtown, it is at the top of the mountain. If there is no car, the mountain climbing is very steep and suitable for people who like sports. There is a car parking fee for thieves, plus a tax of 65 knives a day, about one-third of the price. If you don't need a car, it is recommended to park in the public parking lot opposite the hotel, 40 knives a day.
Going to Chinatown, Union Square is only 10 minutes walk, but it is a slope of 30 degrees -40 degrees. It goes downhill when you go. It takes 5 minutes to arrive. When you come back, you go uphill and the time doubles.
When the car is at the door of the hotel, there are three lines, which is very convenient. It is highly recommended to buy a Dangdang one-day card or a few-day card, so that you can take unlimited flights. Not only can you get there when you get there, but you can also take all the other city buses. Personally feel that it is more cost-effective than a sightseeing bus.
So tired, just write here, I hope to help you who are looking for a hotel.
Very nice location and room. The valet parking situation is awful as we had to wait 40 minutes to get our car.
One of the best hotels I have ever stayed at. Beautiful high-end rooms. With amazing views of the city. The service is above and beyond.
My only complaint is that the quality of the food served at breakfast. At a cost of $32 per adult I expect a decent meal. What I got was a blan tasting sub par meal.
It's a lovely old hotel with loads of charm. The room service is ludicrously expensive.
As a business traveller I find that Mark Hopkins as the romantic charm but lacks on the modernization part. Specially the toilets needs a bit of remodelling and so does the elevator.
If it's for a romantic getaway I might come back but if the visit is for work I will try and avoid this hotel again.
Just an incredible place with an incredible view. Treat yourself and go here at least once.
Top of the mark. What can I say it was our 30th anniversary and the staff did us proud. Gloria our waitress was superb and I may add a very funny lady a true asset to this establishment. Thanks Gloria for making our day. Also our maitre d who's name we didn't get this man is so so professional and made us feel at home what a star. Thank you everyone.
Joe and Maria
Beautiful hotel and great restaurant. Excellent location in the heart of San Francisco.
Great location. Rooms are on the smaller side but beds are comfortable. There is zero counter space in the bathroom so I had to put my makeup on the toilet seat. Wish there was a cafe or gift shop.
tip: go there right before sunset to grab a drink while tasting one of the best views of SF!
Beautiful and clean hotel! I definitely go back again
Had an amazing stay. It s a little old, but that adds to the charm. Very well maintained and has an exceptional staff. Guest room was very clean. Restraint experience was excellent.
Overall great hotel, really nice conference rooms, great service. Only complaint I have is WiFi would cost 50% more so we didn't get WiFi :(
Nice place to stay while visting San Francisco, very accesible to all city amenities
Very luxurious and located at the top of Nob Hill for a cool view of the city (though also means more Hill climbing). Very attentive service. We had a comfortable stay.
Beautiful historic hotel on the top on Nob Hill with excellent service. Rooms feel classic without being stuffy.
Nice amenities and clean rooms. A bit noisy since the windows are an older style and pricey, but I'd definitely stay here again. It's also at the very top of Nob Hill, which means great views but a challenging walk!
