I really wanted to love this place. Every *person...

I really wanted to love this place. Every *person* I interacted with was great: housekeeping, bell staff, door men, concierge, desk staff were all unfailingly polite. I really felt that they went out of their way to be helpful.

Unfortunately, the rooms did not live up to the staff. The bed escaped being the most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept on only because I've slept on those awful folding couches where the support bar is in the middle of your back. I'm pretty sure that I've slept better on the ground in some places. I get that I can't necessarily expect the same quality of mattress as I have at home, but I don't exactly have a premium mattress. For the room price, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a bed that is at least a step or two above a motel 6. It's been a long time since I slept in a motel 6, but I'm pretty sure the bed wouldn't pass muster there.

The rest of the room was pretty much what you might expect from a chain hotel. The bathroom was laid out rather awkwardly, but overall was tolerable.

In the end, if you want to experience a bit of history, it might be worth it, but I wouldn't recommend this hotel if you're actually paying regular price for it. Especially if you are planning to stay multiple nights. I booked on a conference rate for 5 nights, so I was kind of stuck; because of the conference, I didn't have time to mention it to the staff to see what they would do. When I checked in, I was offered an upgraded room (for additional cost, of course...), but even at a conference rate, I shouldn't have to pay extra to get a decent night's sleep.
