Lovely in the spring ... gorgeous flowering bushes .. i think they are rhododendrons. We were in Europe for a tour but went a couple days early to do our own thing. My husband had been stationed in Germany years ago and visited this cemetery but it's something he wanted to revisit so we rented a car and came to experience it. We heard It's immaculately cared for by the local people and theres a wait list to honor these heroes. We thought that was a beautiful gesture. Didnt see alot to do on the way there or in the area.

Such a pity ,
Last weekend we were in Maastricht and thought we would go next.
Looked at the site and it said it was open.
Arrived in Margraten we stood in front of a closed gate.
Was no access possible due to corona

A must see. So very impressive. Our sons were also impressed. The extreme peace that prevails here. Take a walk around and let your thoughts go. Ample parking. Try to visit here once a year.

For me very special. Had heard a lot about it. And a few weeks ago we were in Valkenburg and I had the idea of going to Margraten. The sight of 8301 graves alone is there. I can only say if you are in the area go and have a look. For me, at least, it has made both emotional and impressive, no matter how strange it sounds. Both the Americans, American / Jewish, Polish / American soldiers and for those I have not mentioned sorry for that. I always say: Welcome to the great people world. But this is a very big human world for me personally. They have all ensured that we now live in freedom. I can only say thank you to 8301 for the freedom I have had since I was born in 1954

Very thoughtful and touching, but at the same time beautiful and quiet place, where you can go inside to think about what these people fought for and what we owe these heroes ... Peace ... Unfortunately, it is still not everywhere on the World of course !!! Thank You We'll never forget !!!

An absolutely incredible experience. My Uncle is buried there. We had the honor of meeting the lady who has taken care of his grave for over 70 years. All Americans should experience this place.

Special and impressive.

Honest, respectful of the more than 8,000 young American conscripts who died in the struggle to liberate our part of Europe.

Never visited it but yesterday i was in the area and i just had to. More than 8000 graves of young men half my age which gave their lives for the freedom of Europe.

There was a feeling of peace there. Chirping birds and everything well taken care of.

Visit it and never forget about it.

WW2 US military cemetery Margraten in the Netherlands. 8301 serviceman found their final resting place here, fighting fascism, racism, slavery, intolerance and genocide. This place is a warning for future generations. Look at the gravestones and observe that most men who are laying here were in their twenties.

Sunday 30 June we were at the cemetery, everything neatly arranged.
we walked around with great respect.
Also talked to a lady who adopted a grave from 1971. She had a beautiful story, which she told from the past.
But the thing that annoyed me most was that two guards were walking around in the parking lot and were smoking and throwing the cigarette away in the drain.

The American soldiers cemetery Margraten is located near the Dutch city of Margraten.
We reached it comfortably from Aachen by car through Vaals via the N278.
It is then on the left-hand side and there are sufficient free parking spaces on site. The cemetery is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and entry is free. It is the only American soldiers cemetery on Dutch territory and it was created during the Second World War. 8,301 American soldiers are buried here. These people gave their lives so that today we can live in peace with one another in our German democracy and in Europe.

I've been here so flat and every time I still find it impressive.
More than 8,500 graves are located here.
Those people gave their lives for our freedom.
It makes sense that we continue to honor them.

Military cemetary beautifully kept by the American Battle Monuments Commission to honour the brave US servicemen who paid their highest price fighting the nearby battle fields of World War II. Excellent information center directly near the cemetary. The yearly held Liberation Concert by the Southern Netherlands Philharmonic and choir is always a joy to visit.

Very impressive memorial, beautifully landscaped, well maintained.
Every time we are in Limburg, we pay a visit, and put a bouquet of flowers at "our" unknown boy, whom we have not officially adopted but in our hearts.

That we will never forget that because of your sacrifice we are able to live in freedom and speak in our own native tongue.
God bless the American soldiers who liberated Europe and freed us from evil!

After 35 years of looking at Margraten again, the feeling was just as intense as then, all those young lives that were given for our freedom.
It is all nice and sleek, well maintained, visitors can pass the graves in peace and read the names on the tombstones. A beautiful respectful place that should definitely be visited.
Now I had discussed a campsite for my holiday and it turned out to be just behind the field of honor.
Every evening at 5:00 PM I heard trumpet playing coming from the cemetery, I thought the flag is being lowered with military honor and I want to experience that.
On the last day of my stay I walked to the back of the cemetery, there I had an unobstructed view of the flag, now waiting for it to happen, what I saw then I really couldn't, two employees took the flag at 4:40 PM to come down and hurry detour, at 5:00 pm sounded from a loudspeaker trumpet play and that was it.
I think the latter is a pity, that it does not seem possible to lower the flag with respect and with trumpet playing at the close of the day.

One of the essential experiences for an American traveling Europe, aside from all the native cultures, is to go see an American cemetery from the world wars. No picture or video of the iconic field of simple white crosses can possibly do justice to the enormity of the sacrifice that you realize when seeing them all laid before you in person. We came to visit a relative on the Wall of the Missing, and left feeling gratitude and pride at the dedication to their memories exhibited here. The grounds and structures are immaculate, and the staff is outstanding. Thank you again.

This is where our history comes to life. Incredible the number of people who gave their lives for our freedom
You may have read so much about it, but when you see it, it speaks to you. A feeling of gratitude remains.
