My husband and I had great difficulties managing his 94 year old mother at home. Finding the right nursing home for a loved one is a very difficult undertaking. From the time of the original inquiry we were quite pleased with Margaret Tietz. The staff is very attentive to our mom s needs. She gained weight and is healthy. The facility is very clean and well maintained.
Liked the easy check in & out process. The rooms were nice & clients appeared happy.
I had a nice time with my uncle in the garden. It was nice and clean. Staff was nice and very helpful
Very clean, nice fish tank in lobby. Outdoor area looked beautiful, sign in and out by punching for phone number. Very nice.
My dad was brought here last night. The staff was so pleasant and attentive. We had a special but reasonable request in terms of his care and the nurse quickly conveyed that request to the doctor by text ( it was after 9:30 at night ) and , wow , he responded quickly in the affirmative. The place is so classy and modern looking as well. The family lounge even has a sun room ! Wow !
Weak on explaining key metrics on progress towards releasing someone.
I have had my mother here a few times for Sub Acute Rehab. I cannot say enough nice things. She has always come back home strong and pleased with her stay. I would not take my mother anywhere else. The staff truly are compassionate and caring.
Hospice - unless you are dying within 2 weeks they won't "accept you". How's that for caring? So if have 3 weeks left to live, go somewhere else, then again how are we supposed to know whether it's 2 weeks, 1 week or 3?
My mom is still here in rehab and about to go home. She s ready. It s busy but very caring and efficient. good place for rehab!!
My 83 year old mother spent three and a half months at Margaret Tietz this past winter and Spring. It is an amazing place. The staff is caring and dedicated. The rehab department is outstanding. You feel from the moment you contact the admissions office until the day you leave, that you are treated like someone special.
Very warm and friendly and smiling staff. Place exudes a lot of warmth
One star, and that's generous. My mother has been at this facility since last Monday afternoon. I read good reviews about their rehab., which is why she is there. Every day there has been at least one issue, usually more. My mother has had therapy, but I happened to arrive the other day when she was in P.T., and observed a bit of the session. I was disappointed. The P.T.A. was treating more than one patient concurrently (not unusual), and there were long lapses in treatment/attention to my mother (they had my mother-90 years old- seated in a wheelchair rest her legs on a therapy ball, and pull her legs in and out, and walked away. I think that they did some stretching and walked her down the hallway...that was it). The food is terrible, and she is left to sit in a wheelchair in her room for most of the day. She has complained about how they wash and dress her in the morning, and I have had to ask that they allow her to complete as much of her ADLs as possible independently with assistance, instead of doing it for her (after all, she will be discharged and she needs to do this at home safely). They provide a phone, but she cannot call out to save her life...she has reported that she has to dial the switchboard, and is left hanging on until she gets so frustrated that she hangs up the phone. I realize that the staff is busy, but come on! This is short-term rehab. I expect more...a lot more. The one star is for the cleanliness of her room. Don't trust the website, and send you loved one elsewhere. I will update this post later this week (if I haven't had her transferred).
4/16/18: Update: My mother will be discharged tomorrow. So here's what I have to say; The facility is clean and well-lit. If you need to speak with someone, there is usually someone available without an appointment. If you are available on a daily basis to ensure that everything is being implemented and everyone is doing their respective jobs, then perhaps they will. You have to be a presence. You have to be a good advocate, and unafraid to speak up on your loved one's behalf. Make sure that you request a team meeting, and ask questions! Once I discovered that certain things were in my mother's chart but not being implemented, I started calling, and speaking with the department supervisors. Then, and only then did things start to happen. My mother has made progress, and feels much more confident of her ability to transition to assisted living...after a lot of stress and tears on my part. I hate confrontation, but I have learned a lot. I will increase my overall impression to 3 stars, but that is only really for the social worker, and the rehab. director. Good luck!
Don't recommend! Nobody is stationed at the nurse's station for over an hour and nobody responds to the help call! We're talking about seniors requiring assistance, not spoiled kids!!
I have visited this Nursing Home in the past (maybe 10 or 15 years) - and now see MUCH improvement both in the maintenance of the facility and the patient care. What was particularly noticeable was the staff attitude - it seemed to be "life-affirming". Thank you.
My experience wasn't bad but it's a very busy
place that seems to do all they can for the patients comfort.
Don't bother trying to get a staff person on the telephone. You'll have no luck at all. You can go round and round in their voicemail system and never get a call back. Note on their website how no one's name is listed for any of the departmental positions. They don't seem to understand that it's very important that we stay connected to our loved ones and get updates from time to time. However, the nurses I spoke with were pleasant and knew about day to day care, but not about my aunt's progress.
No call back from administration. No call back from physical therapy department. No call back from Greivance office staffer. Then finally after two weeks a "we're sorry" callback from the social worker. Frustrating..........
I must say. I was very impressed entering this building. The lady at the front desk was pleasant. When I arrived on the six floor, the first thing I've noticed the smell on the floor, it was a freshness in the air. The nurses was nice, the resident looked clean. My aunty room was beautiful and clean. They made her as comfortable as possible. I would truly recommend this rehabilitation home.
All the staff greeted me warmly.I watched the interaction with the residents and I was impressed by their courteousness and professionalism.
Terrible place! Nurses scream at the staff in front of residents, the director of nursing doesn t care about the residents or staff, she just sends staff home instead of insuring their safety when residents are out of control. They don t properly medicate residents & some nurse aides act like they are the boss & tell other aides it s their floor. The food is terrible, like school lunch food. They don t have enough supplies, and they don t appreciate their workers.
People are nice, accommodating you feel comfortable, neat perfect place
This facility is absolutely clean and the atmosphere is very friendly. Impressed with the convenient ''check-in" and "check-out" process. Great facility!
Worked with us in getting the care and services my mother needed. Very nice place. Clean most of the staff were very caring and attentive
1 star but I wish I could give them 0 stars. Worst place ever. My mom was there for rehab following surgery for a cranial hemotoma in late 2017 through early 2018. The goal was to get her to walk again. Not only did they fail to do so, but when they saw they were unable to help they failed to recommend trying other places. However, this isn't the worst of it. Insurance is supposed to cover the first 100 days. My mom was only there 76 days, so her stay should have been covered. Instead, the insurance company cut her off due to failure to improve after only 37 days, which is illegal per the Jimmo vs. Sebelius lawsuit. The staff at Margaret Tietz should have known this and forced the insurance company to pay. Instead, they billed US for the remaining 39 days, at nearly twice the rate the insurance company was paying them! Because my mom couldn't walk, it took some time to prepare the house for her eventual return. We had no options other than to leave her there until the work was done, and hope they could get her walking again.
They sent us a bill for $23,000, which not only could we not afford to pay, but also which we shouldn't be obligated to pay since the insurance company was legally required to pay for the first 100 days. I tried explaining this to them multiple times to no avail. Now we're being sued, with the summons naming my mentally incompetent mother as the defendant, even though I told them I have power of attorney. Moreover, they're doing this in the middle of a pandemic, which is frankly ridiculous and unethical.
Anyway, I highly recommend that people avoid this place.
Very big and clean. Rooms look nice n loved one feels comfortable. Would suggest closing off area when changing patients that do number 2, can be an unbearable smell, but they do clean quickly. Providing an area out of Rooms for guests to sit when doctors or staff are attending to loves ones., a microwave on every floor instead of going to the first floor to utilize. Staff seems caring n friendly so far. I will update if any changes.
Amazing rehab center! Friendly and caring staff, always catered to my fathers needs. Highly recommended!
My mother who is a tough patient needed a nursing home last year for rehab for the first time in a few years and I was not happy with the prior place she stayed at. It was stressful and I looked in places like this for guidance for a better facility. That s why I m writing this and am going into detail. I visited quite a few of the places in queens and checked out Margaret tietz based on a recommendation. Based on first impressions I was impressed but I was even more impressed for the duration of her stay there. There s an upbeat energy to this place I ve never encountered before and the care is excellent. As I said my mother is a tough patient and the staff from everybody department exhibited a concern, compassion, and just overall excellence in care that made things go so smoothly. I could not recommend this place more highly if you need a nursing facility for a parent. I will not hesitate to send either of my parents there If the need arrives again. Margaret tietz will always be at the top of my list when they ask me for choices.
A few more specific highlights in closing:
They have regular and excellent special programs like musicians who really brighten the day for the guests.
The rehab employees are all gems and we re flexible and eagerntonworkbeoth is to get o the goal for my mother
They have a gorgeous outdoor garden during the warmer months which is just a lovely place to bring your family member to get them time outside. The lobby also has a fish tank and bird exhibit.
The nursing and aide staff do a phenomenal job. Their devotion was on display every time I visited.
I m very imp-rest with the way it looks and how clean it is and the staff
Terrible place to be Therapist are great but the system doesn't work when communication between them is almost nil.
Nice and clean facility and most of all, the staff are all very helpful, friendly, compassionate and experts in their field.
My mother has been well taken care of and the physical therapists provide excellent rehab.
I visited Margaret Tietz rehabilitation today and I must say I was very impress with the ambience and the cleanliness of the facility
It was really a breath of fresh air. I would recommend the facility to my friends and family. The staff was pleasant and very accommodating.. I would give them 5 Stars
(1) The place is super clean, on the 4th floor Gena Martinez and Javier Castillo works tirelessly each day just to keep their floor clean. I visited the other floors and they are the same, super clean.
(2) The staff members are on top of everything. In my opinion the facility is good and comfortable for most residents.
"LORD, you have assigned me my portion and my cup; you have made my lot secure.6The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance. "PSALMS 16:5-6. I really appreciate the hospitality starting from the front desk then to human resources and then to my working area as a personal aid for a client in this nice facility. Caregiver Hana W from New York.
As a health care worker and a Human Services graduate, one of the things I looked for when entering a health care facility is cleanliness.Next, is the rapport between staff and residents.Based on what I saw,I think my cousin is in a good facility.Just continue to motivate your staff and you will be more successful.Always remember if you have a disgruntled staff you can't have a successful business.LoL and more successful years.
The maintenance staff was extremely efficient. We had a light bulb burn out, flagged down a maintenance guy, and 5 minutes later, we had a functioning lightbulb.
#Greatnursinghome. As one of the Chaplin for Worldwide Association of Professional Chaplins, it is a pleasure to minister to the residents. They are friendly and welcoming. The staff is also great. They are very caring towards the residents. The residents are generally well kept and seem to be treated like family. Margaret Tietz is one of the best kept nursing home in which I have visited during my Chaplaincy and I am looking forward to continue my visits in 2019. God Bless . Chaplin J. SKYERS
I wish I could give -0 stars. My Aunt was sent there for hospice on Friday and today my cousin called me to inform me that my Aunt passed away, but the only reason she knew her Mother passed away was because she called to find out how she was doing and was told she passed away three hours ago. They said they called my Uncle to let him know... they must have great long distance because my uncle passed away in February. My cousins told them that and put their numbers down as contacts. Do your research before putting a loved one here or anywhere else.
The facility was spotllessly clean, the aides that I'd encounter was professional the lady at the front desk was helpful and very professional
We visited our grandma, she had a stroke 2 month ago. At the center clean environment, nice receptionist and welcoming personnel. I saw the dinner which was given to my granny - hot soup with a lot of veggies, fresh salad, sandwich, orange and cranberry juice, milk, coffee, pudding and banana! But the most important, that after two month being at MT rehab - grandma started to feel her leg and arm, face started to move. And she told me that physical therapy at this center is the best she ever received.
Margaret Tietz Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility takes care of those who can no longer take care of themselves. They are kind, loving, caring, courteous and professional in helping all their clients. Margaret Tietz has excellent staff and medical professionals who are diligent, hardworking, and attentive.
