I have been a member at Club H for several years and have watched it decline with respect to cleanliness, services, facility, staff, and members.
The initial reason I joined was that Club H offered Manhattan and New Jersey locations. They have since sold the Manhattan locations. Of course, there was never any mention of lowering dues once they halved the value of their product.
Those of us who frequent the Jersey City location have seen the machinery frequently broken. The Juice Bar no longer has a working blender, and they no longer sell food from the refrigerator. In other words, the lovely woman who works behind the counter is paid to be nice to you and apologize when you order. The weight equipment is often broken, mats are torn, and medicine balls split in two, but the worst aspect of the facility is the men's locker room. Half the showers do not have hot water, the shower doors have never been replaced, the steam room has been broken for 3 weeks, the sauna is dirty and has broken boards (?!), and the entire area has a gross, unclean feel to it.
Though it may be somewhat politically incorrect to state it, the sales staff and trainers (with one or two exceptions) as well as the membership itself has become progressively more meathead. I have watched around 20 friends (men and women) quit the gym for all of the above reasons. These people now make inconvenient commutes to gyms often 30 minutes away just so they do not have to deal with the nonsense of people with gross habits and a gym that does nothing to clean-up around them. Do not be misled by the initial impression of a nice aesthetic and the good-looking front desk employees. Club H Jersey City is more like a rough-around the edges boxing gym that would cost half the price.
If a nice competing gym opened nearish the Path that had a NYC location, they would make a killing!
