The rooms are wonderful, as is the location of this hotel. However, those are the only compliments I can give this property. I recently stayed at the Mandarin Oriental DC for the weekend. I was excited to experience the Mandarin brand for the first time since I've enjoyed my time at many other 4-5 star hotels (Four Seasons, Ritz, St Regis, Pennisula, etc), but was extremely disappointed. Upon check-in, at 3:45pm (45 min past check-in time)...I was told that the king room that I reserved was not ready, and the only thing available at the time were two bed rooms. I expressed my displeasure...and told the front desk that's unacceptable. I was on a tight schedule, and needed to get ready for an event later that evening. They said they could check me into the two bed room now, and call me when the king room I booked became available. I never received a call. Later that evening, I spoke to the front desk manager and explained the situation. I was told they were fully booked and there was nothing he could do. When my boyfriend arrived in town 20 min later...he also spoke to the same manager and we were immediately moved. This does not sit well with me. Either I was lied to originally, or this hotel attempts to take advantage of women and their understanding nature. The unfortunate weekend does not stop there...I was told upon check-in that a bellman would meet me with my luggage in the room. I had to call down 30 min later to even receive those bags. The bartender at the Express Lounge knocked over a wine glass...shattering pieces of glass that fell onto my lap Fri afternoon. Sat afternoon, my drink order was forgotten....twice. Eden was the only competent waitress there. My credit card was overcharged on check out (not to mention I still have yet to receive a detailed bill e-mailed to me as promised). The front desk accidentally put a $3000 hold on my friend's credit card during check-in by mistyping the amount for incidentals. For a 5 star hotel...and a brand that prides themselves on service...the Mandarin falls short. I was offered nothing for any of these inconveniences. Never in my life have I complained about a hotel stay...I understand hotels can be busy, and that the service industry can be difficult...but this warrants a complaint. Spend your money elsewhere

Great location near the warf. Things are simply pricy here but it's a nice place. The bathroom is great. It's updated with a modern looking soaking tub and separate shower. The question is whether it's worth the price? Well I'm just not sure the experience is luxurious enough for the price or location.

Comfortable and upscale, the pictures of the rooms represent what you get and are a higher quality than I can provide so I won't bother... but the fine quality of the closet wasn't captured... So here you go :)

After one year of being cooped up, we are finally vaccinated and able to travel. The staff and hotel went above and beyond our standards! The front desk service and the room service was impeccable. The food was on point and we are both chefs, and hard to please. The beds are AMAZING! We brought our ten year old son, and they made great accommodations for him and made him feel special. The rooms are super clean as well. We will definitely be back, and be pampered in our suite with beautiful views of our nations capital. Thank you!!!!

Do not stay at this hotel. It is obscenely overpriced and overrated. My daughter in law and I are currently staying here for 5 nights with 4 grandchildren. We had to wait hours for check in and then another two hours for baggage to be delivered to room. I personally went to check in desk to retrieve bags and was escorted to the dregs of hotel to locate stores bags. When I checked my credit card online , I was shocked to see 3 pending charges for $360,00. I questioned the desk clerk and was told these charges were for 'incidentals'. Seriously for two rooms that were already costing close to $5000,00. No Kurig or coffee maker in room. Had to special request this and make an ordeal that I would not pay extra for coffee in room. When my daughter checked in, she requested rooms that were at least in close proximity to each other. We ended up with rooms that were 30 rooms apart from each other. I was told this was a "luxury hotel " and guests were expected to be served. Having stayed at the Grand Hyatt in DC in June of 2018, I have been both amazed and disappointed in this hotel. I would rate the Grand Hyatt as a much nicer hotel with much better amenities. There were no incidental charge at check in and rooms were side by side.Needless to say, I will be closely checking charges at check out. I realize this is a peak season for DC, but this has overall been ridiculous. I would never recommend this hotel.

Everything was superlative! The only reason this is a 9 instead of a 10 is that the hotel was charging $12 for a bucket of ice to the room - non-negotiable. Guests could not get their own ice from the hotel kitchen and no ice machines were available to guests. In a pandemic situation where the only dining options were room service or take-out, charging for ice seemed truly ridiculous in light of the fact that there was absolutely no other way to get ice. No Fridge in room, etc.

Bring your special person here, at least once! The only bad thing that happened had nothing to do with the food part. When I turned my car over to the valet the person said that my fee would be $11 when I returned. Kind of high for two hours, but I said nothing. After the meal, the waiter asked for my parking permit so he could validate it and thus the parking would be free. How nice is that?
I gave my validated card to the parking attendant and he said $11.00. I said I have a validated parking permit just in case he missed it and without missing a beat, he said the parking was normally $22.00; and I was taken aback. I said the validation paid for my parking in full and he knew I wasn't a sucker. I plan on calling and reporting this to management because it gives a bad name. It might mean that I shall never come back here again, nor recommend this place even though I give it five stars.

It is in the center of everything, yet it is nicely secluded from the fast pace of the city around it. Parking is valet only, and will cost you around $55/night. The staff are amazing, and made both me and my fiance feel welcome. We chose the water view delux room, and could not have been more pleased. Bed was super comfy, room service was on point, and the dining area in the room was well situated. Only complaint I had about the experience was the temperature of the shower, twice both times I showered left something to be desired. But the bath temperature was perfect? I definitely recommend this hotel, and plan on spending more nights there.

The room was very clean and spacious. Generally, property is well maintained. The hospitality shown to the highest standard!; the staff are professional yet they were friendly, a little conversation to break the ice sort of thing... they made me feel like I was important; I felt the staff was happy to be at work , and it showed in their demeanor and body language.
At no point did I feel uncomfortable in my surroundings. I felt very safe staying at this hotel. The bed...oh my!.....lovely... on my next visit to DC, I AM going to stay at the Mandarin. Cheers

Great room in a luxury hotel. Location immediately around hotel is a bit bland, but views of monuments and walking distance to mall. Shower pressure was strangely strong, which is an unusual problem but I guess is better than not enough? Overall we had an enjoyable stay.

Very unpleasant experience. This Nabil is a receptionists with very rude attitude and bad manners. After our compliant to the duty manager, he wrote a apology letter to us. Instead of apologizing for his bad manner, he only apologized for a WiFi issue which was the reason we asked for his help. This kind of apology is not acceptable. I hope someone of the mandarin oriental group would at least do something about.
The worst Mandarin Oriental hotel I have ever stayed. The picture of the letter is attached as for reference.

The rooms are very clean and the staff are friendly. The interior design is luxurious for a five-star hotel, and the bathrooms are large. However, there is no coffee or tea in the room, so you have to order, a small pot costs $8 and a large pot costs $12. Also, there were almost no amenities in the bathroom. I don't think this is a 5 star hotel. I didn't feel very good. Besides, there are train tracks around, so if you don't choose a room well, you will have to suffer from train noise all night.

From the time I booked my staycation to the time I checked out, MO was absolutely amazing. I booked my room through reservations and the gentleman who helped me made sure I had everything that I needed and walked me through which room would be the best. I also signed up for Fans of MO for the extra perks which were great. My check in was seamless. The doormen/bellhops were very polite and helpful. My room was absolutely beautiful. The views of the marina were perfect at night and even better at sunrise. I made use of the bathtub which I never do but I couldn't resist that big soaker tub. It took a while to figure out how to order movies on the TV but eventually did. The selection was limited but we managed with what was available. The breakfast in the morning was fantastic. So so good. And the lavender hot chocolate was dreamy. We also got a Ugg blanket as part of the Cozy at MO staycation package. We were able to check out at 4pm and stayed until the very last minute because I did not want to leave. My checkout was also seamless. Everyone was so kind and helpful. I was really impressed with the hotel and service and can't wait to come back again soon. Thank you for a needed staycation.

I'm sure the reviews on this place are spectacular. Our experience was outstanding. I would highly recommend this hotel for business or pleasure. It's in relatively close proximity to both the National Mall and the wharf. Service was top-notch and always friendly.

The hotel was beautiful and tea room environment was very spacious with Asian colors and large high back couch chairs which was so lovely. But when it came to the tea selection they had 3 tea sandwiches, 3 desserts and 1 scone per person for the price of $50.00 along with your own personal pot of a single tea selection. For the price I was expecting the tea sandwiches and sweets to WOW but it was just mediocre except for one of the desserts it was a chocolate mousse tart with raspberry on the inside. That dessert was to die for. The savory tea sandwiches - the brioche with ham and cheese was a winner but the cornbread with the chipotle sweet potato mouse was disgusting it was super spicy and sweet but had no salt on the tea sandwich. It was so bad that I remembered it vividly. But overall it was ok for tea.
