We had the fortune to get a last minute reservation for Mother's Day at this wonderful Italian restaurant. Our table was next to a window in the second floor which made the experience even better. The food and the service was excellent and the prices decent. Our order included the tuna tartar and the artichoke salad for antipasto which were very good. And for main dishes we had the Clam and Scallop pasta, Bolognese pasta and Lobster Ravioli. I would recommend this restaurant if you're looking for Italian food in the North End of Boston. Give it a try.

Mamma Maria's has long been one of our favorites for it's delicious food and beautiful space. Now, as they adjust to Covid-19, they've created an outdoor dining experience that meets their high standards for food and ambiance.

From the food to the service this establishment is great. The staff is very attentive to all requests. The kitchen is very willing to be creative when it comes to a impromptu dish. Very authentic Italian food. Highly recommend dinner or lunch here.

My wife and I had the most wonderful and amazing experience at Mamma Maria's last night. From the moment we walked in, the ambiance, the lighting, the fragrance of the food being prepared and served, created such anticipation of what was soon to be experienced by us. We were seated at a table overlooking the city and the North End street below us. Our waiter, Josue and his assistant Anderson were doing everything to make us feel comfortable and relaxed. Our meal was exquisite and delicious from beginning to end. Every detail is now embedded in our minds. This was without a doubt one of the most memorable dining experiences we have ever had. Thanks to the owners, staff, wait staff and chef and assistants. God has blessed you and continues to do so. Marc and Sharon

Update still one of my favorites

Update still one of my favorites
Great service
Outside dining now due to C-19
It started to rain during our dinner and they went above and beyond to make sure to get an umbrella or every table
They are a little on the higher end food and price wise but it s worth it

So far one of my favorites in the NE

They are a bit pricier compare to the others but the food is also better.

Great wine and service too.

Only negative is that is was extremely loud (like LOUD)

Otherwise I would have given 5 stars
In the picture the lamb 3 ways and it was really good

I brought my girlfriend here for our anniversary. It was a very lovely experience. Our server made excellent suggestions and took great care of us.
The atmosphere was very nice and the view from the second floor window area was beautiful.
At the end of the day what matters most is the food - and it was excellent!
The ossobuco was very tender and not at all gamey. I would definitely recommend it.
My girlfriend had the rabbit pasta and could tell that the pappardelle was very fresh.
Overall, it was a wonderful time.
We will definitely revisit Mamma Maria in the future.

Our server Enrique was extremely friendly and knowledgeable; will ask for him next time I go. Top notch in all aspects.

We were fortunate enough to rent out the main part of the restaurant for our rehearsal dinner. The food is SO delicious, you quite literally cannot go wrong with anything you order on the menu. You can tell the food is fresh and made to order - the meats, ravioli, salads, everything! So delectable and flavorful, unlike any other Italian dining experience I've had. The service itself was unbelievable; waitstaff were accommodating to the children who wanted to order outside of the preset menu, and were attentive to and interactive with all of our guests. Thank you so much for such an incredible evening. We will definitely be returning for another exquisite dining experience!

They close at 9:30 during pandemic. We reserved a table online for dinner. Got a nice spot for dining outside when we reached. They have a beautiful setup for social distancing. We ordered grilled octopus and calamari for starters, two way ravioli for main course and bread pudding for dessert. Grilled octopus and calamari were well cooked and delicious. Usually I don't like calamari but it tasted good with octopus. The two way ravioli was stuffed with two kind of stuffing. And since it's two way it had mushroom or spinach on top of it. I loved the stuffing and the mushroom and spinach on top made it even better. At the end the bread pudding was good too. It had nuts inside it but tasted well. Loved the service too.

COVID outdoor seating:

COVID outdoor seating:

We have tried a few outdoor places in the north end and this one has the best seating and service. You aren t seated on the sidewalk or street like most places. Service was quick and friendly - which is hard to find these days.

One one the best meals I ve ever had in the North End or anywhere else for that matter. Amazing fresh pasta dishes - we tried three different plates and each was a treasure.

The food and service was good! My rating is for the unfortunate experience we had with the host.
My husband took me to Mamma Maria for dinner on my birthday. We were done eating, paying and were ready to leave and we suddenly remembered about getting our haymarket garage parking ticket validated. I went to use the restroom and my husband turned around to ask the male host if they could validate our parking ticket. In our experience, all the restaurants we dined in at Northend validated the parking ticket but apparently Mamma Maria didn t, which was totally fine as every restaurant has their own policies. The host mentioned that they don t validate parking tickets and my husband was ok with it and he stepped aside to wait for me to come out of the restroom. One of the customers sitting at the bar started talking to the host about how cheap it is that we asked for our parking tickets to be validated. The host thought my husband left and replied in agreement to the customer and joined the customer in conversation and both of them went on insulting us. After a few minutes my husband let them know that he was right there and that he could hear everything!! This experience of being insulted after paying for a costly dinner and on my birthday left a very sour taste in our mouths. It s just unacceptable for the host or any employee of a business to make fun of their paying customers!!!

Went to this restaurant with my boyfriend last week Friday. Very disappointed. We were attracted by the nice decor and lights with the heaters outside. It wasn t like that once sitting. The two hosts were so snotty! They didn t even bother to pull the chair for me and the waiter didn t bother to set the napkin on the table properly. The food was just bland and nothing special. Definitely not worth the price. We ordered two steak dinners and they weren t even cooked properly. I won t return.

The atmosphere is so intimate. It feels like you have been specially selected to be a part of the magic they create here. The menu changes with the season. The menu is small, incredibly fresh and everything is full of flavor and thoughtfully prepared. Taking friends and family here for a four course meal and a bottle is a newly added tradition of mine.

Second time at the restaurant. First time I went I was in awe of how great the customer service was. The food was amazing and I was so excited to Return. However this time around my expectations were high, as I ve already had a great experience. Unfortunately I left disappointed. Our waiters personality was very dry, he barley spoke to us and at times I would have to physically call out to him so he would notice my drink was empty. I did feel as if he looked down at us, like we did not have enough $ to be there. After reading some of these reviews I know I wasn t the only one who felt that.

Although the food was great, i will not be returning because of that.

Had an amazing dinner here! We had a reservation, but the place was packed so we still had to wait a little bit. Very cute, cozy atmosphere. We had the burrata to start, and I had the scallops with risotto for my meal. Everything had delicious flavor. Friendly, professional service. Definitely recommend for a nice dinner!

Wow. Is all I can say. We ate here as a group and they did separate checks and were very attentive. We had the pork meatballs and the osobucco with risotto. The veal shank was fall off the bone tender and was a very generous serving. The risotto was creamy and gave me that down home feeling of real Italian comfort food. There were a few veggies on the plate but not anything one would take note of given the veal shank and risotto. The pork meatballs were served on a plate with four different sauces. My favorite was the mint sauce. Amazing mixture of sweet and savory that just blended so well with the pork. A very easy to share appetizer. We also shred the baked oysters. They were huge and perfectly cooked in a crisp set of toppings and cheeses. I can t recommend this place more highly. But it is pricey and you might have to make reservations but don t miss this north end treat.

About Mamma Maria

Mamma Maria: A Renowned Dining Experience in Boston's North End

If you're looking for a dining experience that combines history, ambiance, and exceptional cuisine, look no further than Mamma Maria. Housed in a 19th-century rowhouse overlooking a historic cobblestone square in Boston's North End, this restaurant has been serving nationally acclaimed regional cuisine for over two decades.

Mamma Maria is the brainchild of Chef/Owner Carlo Berdahn and his wife Pam. Carlo grew up in Italy and learned to cook from his mother and grandmother - hence the name "Mamma Maria." He brings his passion for authentic Italian cooking to every dish he creates.

The restaurant is spread over two floors with five unique dining rooms. Each room has its own character and charm, from the cozy Wine Cellar to the elegant Main Dining Room with its crystal chandeliers and white tablecloths. The decor is warm and inviting with exposed brick walls, hardwood floors, and antique furnishings.

But it's not just the ambiance that draws diners to Mamma Maria - it's the food. The menu features classic Italian dishes made with fresh ingredients sourced from local farms whenever possible. Start your meal with an antipasto platter or one of their famous homemade pastas like Lobster Ravioli or Pappardelle Bolognese.

For entrees, try one of their signature dishes like Veal Saltimbocca or Chicken Parmigiana. Seafood lovers will appreciate their daily selection of fresh fish prepared simply but expertly. And don't forget dessert - Mamma Maria offers traditional Italian sweets like Tiramisu and Cannoli as well as house-made gelato.

In addition to their regular menu offerings, Mamma Maria also hosts special events throughout the year including wine dinners featuring top-rated vintages paired with Chef Carlo's creations.

But what really sets Mamma Maria apart is their commitment to hospitality. From the moment you walk through the door until you leave satisfied after your meal, you'll be treated like family by Carlo and his staff.

So if you're looking for an unforgettable dining experience in Boston's North End that combines history, ambiance, exceptional cuisine, and hospitality,MamaaMaria should be atthe topofyour list!
