Makati Shagri-la Manila Review

As a massive fan of Shangri-La properties, it hurts me to give it a 4 star review, because the property is amazing, room was great, breakfast as one would expect in in such facility, the one thing that took a bit of the shine off was related to the front desk. This, I am sure is an isolated case, as every staff member was great, just when we checked-in, we heard the pitch for the upgrade, which just wasn't the case, since we didn't make the booking. Upon declining the staff was courteous and we were promissed that a bowl of fruits will be sent over (as it is customary for Golden Circle members). However that never happened and sure that didn't ruin my stay, however when promises are made and not followed through takes a bit of the shine off the whole experience. This is one of the best hotels in Metro-Manila and I'm looking forward to changing this rating on my next visit.

Outstanding service, beautiful room. I always enjoy the Shangrila Hotels and this was no exception. Everyone was helpful. I would only say that service was a bit slow both in the lounge and for room service.

From the receptionists, to the room service attendants, to the door personnel and Circle, it was way beyond a second home!

Overall we had a nice stay at the Shangri La in Manila.
However that were a few glitches which I would not like to dwell on.

Absolutely my favorite hotel in Manila -- good modern rooms, nice staff, etc. It's in Makati City so the safety factor is well above average (in my opinion) for Manila, but it is still Manila and the poverty and the risks are just beyond the boundaries of Makati City so use caution when venturing too far. The Philippine people are incredibly nice and gracious (yes, even the poverty-stricken ones; perhaps more so) but humanity has it's limits.

To be honest ... Cool bar! The atmosphere is super! Jazz band finally fire! I recommend whiskey cocktails! Separate respect to the bartenders! The service is excellent. Some of the vivid memories! I'll be in Manila - the first place I go!

My experience with your hotel was superb. Excellent customer service from your staff. I always feel comfortable staying in your hotel rooms. You also have a vast choices when it comes to your bfast food and I love the privillage or experiencing your horizon club lounge. The only thing I would recommend is to improve the pool area. I know the space is limited but if there is a possibility to improve the pool like Edsa-Shangri-La hotel. That ll be perfect for the families esp with children staying in your hotel. But the experience was really memorable.

It is always great experience staying at hotel and If i am not wrong in giving credit to few specific staff who really make my stay enjoyable - it would be Kuldeep (Indian Chef) and Marvic (staff at breakfast).. They have been genuinely a great staff at your hotel who takes care of their guest so well and make their day..

Kuldeep - what should I say about him.. such a great chef and a person.. last week was a fasting week for me, and he being an Indian knows about fasting period - he came to me and asked me about fasting and offered me the food I can eat in the morning.. Really makes my stay so comfortable.

Marvic - Hope this is his real name.. He is such an amazing smiling personality.. the moment he sees me in the restaurant, he brings vegetable juice for me (he knows my choice).. he greets me so well that brings smile for whole day..

One of the best hotels in Manila. We went here to attend an event and only visited the event hall and the main lobby. The event hall was nice and beautiful with a bright and colorful chandelier. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Most importantly the food was amazing and fresh.

Very good location, in between the major makati malls. Our room is spacious and had an excellent view! Housekeeping James is always so accommodating. We ll definitely come back.

It was amazing, with it being a business trip and also my first. Everyone was always so willing to help and polite.

There were cockroaches in my bathroom running around under the sink and all over the floor and walls.
I suggest they change the food everyday in the cocktail evening in the horizon so as not the same food everyday. I also suggest that it is not the same kind of malaysian or singaporian food everyday for the horizon cocktail. It woud be nice if we can have some soup in the horizon cocktail as part of the menu at night.

Beautiful hotel in the heart of Makati. World class service from check in which was conducted in the room. Airport transfers also well done and very professionally too.

Amazing hotel when everything is luxiours. You are amazed by the professional experience and the quality service. So much attention to details from the rooms to the restaurants to the toilets. If you want to splurge the definitely go to Shangri La

Service was very good, from check in to check out. There are just two things I missed in the buffet breakfast: pancakes and oatmeal. Otherwise, it was perfect.

Nice place and very cozy. Friendly staff. Parking fee way to high. Overall, a great example of a 5 star hotel.

Nice hotel but rooms need renovation and upgraded bathrooms

Our stay was very pleasant. We were happy that the room was already setup for 3 when we arrived, as requested. The housekeeping staff were very accommodating. I like that safety is a priority as you always asked us for permission if someone wanted to come up to our room. The breakfast buffet at Circles was very good!

One of the nicest hotels I have seen. The staff is beyond courteous and even treated me at the door and checked me in while escorting my colleagues and I directly to our rooms.

That said they also invited us to find the new speak easy for a happy hour with the GM. Just when you think it couldn t be any more amazing. It gets better.

Special bar hidden on the property, amazing drinks like the fire breathing Jade Dragon, beyond delicious red bean pastries and so much more.

Come to this location for a once in a lifetime experience.

This place is definitely luxurious. I love the interior from the main lobby to its hallways. The entire place is also airconditioned, and the staff are very welcoming and the place is well kept. The location is very convenient since it is situated in the central business district and just near shopping malls. It also offers function rooms/ballrooms that can be used for formal, corporate or special events.

Our stay with Makati Shangrila are awesome, my kids really enjoyed their stay because of the big room and the tipi tent. Especially the kids activities.all the staff are approachable and friendly. We'll surely coming back for our next stay-cation. Thank you.

Your TV system is bad and I have had problems with it in previous and last stays

An oasis in the center of Makati. Delicious string orchestra.

Its clean staff are friendly and accommodating. Security is very high and it's close to the shops and shopping malls

Room is relatively spacious compared to other hotels and has a bath tub. The inclusive breakfast buffet for a night stay also caters wide range of cuisines. Location is very accessible and it is right beside SM Makati and Glorietta.

Makati shangrila stay is A lot better than edsa shangrila

Sunday buffet lunch was VERY SATISFACTORY and not as pricey as other hotels. The prime rib was sublime. Will have another go at it soon.

Hotel is old and not worth the money. It s priced for the sake of being expensive. Breakfast at Circles was not very good and very limited. I would recommend staying at a newer hotel.

Relatively spacious and comfortable rooms (though not as modernized and luxurious as other Shangri-la properties). Rooms have a distinctly musty odor.

The spa is divine with a very serene atmosphere, with relaxing and well priced offerings and charming service.

The restaurants and bars provide reasonable though uninspired offerings. For a high end luxury hotel though, they are radically overpriced relative to their quality (especially given Makati's up and coming food scene there is much better to be had for much less).

The biggest issue with the restaurants though is their extremely poor service. The staff are glacially slow to respond; literally incapable of finding a table in their booking system, and will happily seat strangers at your table without so much as asking.

Stay at the Shangri-las at EDSA or the Fort instead.

The experience is nice though I did not like the breakfast experience. We have tasted a lot of breakfast buffets from a lot of hotels however the one that you have is not at par. There were a lot of selections but the taste is missing.

1 We used hotel taxi, but welcome from the place where we get off, but the service that only checks in and signs in the room as a tablet is very exciting.
2 For fitness, professional PT instructors provide free exercise guidance from body fat test
3 Nice bathing facilities
4 Shopping mall is connected to the inside, so it is convenient when it is not hot and rainy

This is a small, old building, but in a resort style hotel.

Big rooms, good staff, reasonable price, but the quality of the food is terrible, both in the lobby and the breakfast. More or less 90% of what I tasted felt old or processed. If you are into healthy foods you can also forget about it.

The hotel and rooms are very nice, the two restaurants we frequented for breakfast and Sage for dinner we're exceptional. The location in Makati City makes it very convenient to local restaurants and several shopping malls (if you're into shopping). What really made my eight day stay fantastic was the staff. They are all very friendly, helpful, and genuinely care that their patrons are enjoying their stay. Based on my recent trip, I know where I'm staying on my next visit to Manila, it's worth considering on yours as well.

This is my personal favorite hotel when I am in Manila. The customer service is great and rooms are nice and clean. It is located to major restaurants around.

@makatishangrila Never Thought I would have a poor experience... I have been a loyal patron of the Shangri-La Hotels since Feb 2004 and Horizon member since Jan 2005. I written numerous reviews about several properties,,, from Boracay, EDSA, CEBU and most recent... but always felt Makati was a gold standard of service -- until tonight.

I am highly disappointed with how my situation was handled... at the Horizon Club. First of all, I don't frequent the HC much but due to the fact of my back injury during this trip -- I didn't feel comfortable rolling in my wheelchair to Circles or another restaurant. I opted to go to the HC and gingerly walked to it... I was greet and asked for room number and seated until the atendent came back immeditaly to tell me I could not stay and that my room didnt qualify etc.

I said there must be a mistake as its the same bookings for the last 4 stays... he said sorry its not included and would like to upgrade my room.

I was not pleased with the handling especially after spending 35 NIGHTS thus far this year at Makati and 2 at Boracay during this very same stay. In total over $11,000 USD spent... The attendant didn't seem concerned with my loyalty and basic said I was not allowed to stay.

No care for my very visual condition and no recourse or even courtesy to offer an alternative or one time stay.

Any mix up or confusion could have been cleared up and even offered a one time exception. Take ownership to see what could have happened.

You are losing talented people to the Hyatt i hope these individuals don't end up costing you more... than the hors d'oeuvre and drinks I would have consumed.

Mr. Alain Borgers you should look into how your loyal customers are being treated. Feel free to ask your tenured employees about me and my appreciation for them.

Perfect service from start to finish. Great check-in experience, good service in casual breakfast restaurant (also had lunch there), also in lobby. Friendly staff, rooms cleaned to very high standard and nice touches.
