Had the Asian Glazed Salmon and it was incredible! The filet mignon practically melted in your mouth it was so tender. Of course the Bananas Foster was my absolute favorite mostly because they come to your table and make it there for you, but also because its delish! The staff was awesome, great service! Highly recommend!

We ordered dinner and a theatre and the dinner took 40 mim to get here so we were late to the theatre i called the police but they wouldnt come but my table had some great conversation
Two stars for the great atmosphere and service. I wouldn't bother spending my money here ever again. Steak was tasteless and had burnt parts, sauce that was supposed to be on it was thankfully ordered on the side. Who puts a sweet gooey sauce on a filet mignon? Unless you knew it tasted like nothing. mashed potatoes crumbled. Yes, crumbled. They were that dry. We ordered gravy to fix it and the gravy was fantastic. Otherwise it was very very bland food. The pasta dish we ordered was good though.
Wonderful dining experience. Our server was top notch. Prime rib and Fillet were cooked perfectly. And you absolutely MUST try the ADULT CANDY appetizers. They'll make you do a happy dance.
Woodwork beautiful, you feel like you're in the Victorian West, with great service and good food. We're glad we made this our dinner stop for Durango while out traveling.
Got to meet the Chef (Chef Safari), super nice and he is from Kenya and like world renown or something I heard... Well, his food definitely tastes like it!! WOW!
In Durango, CO, we enjoyed a fabulous dinner at MAHOGANY GRILL. For starters, I was adventurous and chose the Octopus & Chorizo Caponata, and my wife chose the Pork Belly & Egg Wellington. Both appetizers were super tasty and delicious! My octopus was surprisingly enjoyable almost like lobster. Glad I tried it. For entrees, my wife ordered the Pepper Steak Herbert, a peppered beef tenderloin with chutney, potatoes & vegetables it was perfectly cooked with balanced spices and flavors. I ordered the Pan-Fried Colorado Trout, and it too was perfectly cooked and delicious; it came with bacon, hash, sprouts and apple sauce, which really contributed amazing flavors. We did ask for some Paleo-oriented substitutions and the staff was wonderfully accommodating. Our server India R. was super-efficient and constantly checking on us made us feel very special! The restaurant s atmosphere is beautiful and romantic definitely a place to go for special intimate occasions. Prices were very reasonable for such high quality of food. Absolutely highly recommended not only for dinners, but they serve breakfasts as well.
Complete dining experience. Delicious entrees exceptional drink menu, and a wonderful wait staff who are super friendly and eager to serve. I suggest trying the bananas foster for dessert.
Expensive, service was slow, 2 of us had awesome elk steaks, the porterhouse witb crab topping was tough but that's probably not the restaurant's fault, just being thorough = $170 for 3 men with 1 drink each FYI we were full ***** in a 5 star historic hotel
We were there a couple of weekends ago and the breakfast was so bad we didn't go back the rest of our trip even though we were staying in the Hotel. We both ordered eggs benedict her's was under cooked runny and mine were hard boiled. The waitress didn't bring my wife the beverage she ordered so we shared mine. No refills on coffee or water. Of course they didn't forget to add her beverage to the ticket. Also the breakfast was served room temperature but we ate it anyway. To top it off when we got our check it wasn't ours. For the price they charge you would expect great service and hot (cooked properly) food! We ate breakfast just down the street and it was way cheaper and the service was impeccable.
Very small portions for price (4.5 oz) filet mignon ($26) and was probably less then that in size. Trout dish was mostly potatoes. Bread extra. Food was good though.
Cheerful friendly service on a beautiful Christmas morning. Brunch buffet had plenty of options with omelette station. We enjoyed a window table with a view of Main St.
Really amazing experience. We had dinner there and the entrees were absoutely delicious. Very attentive service, beautiful atmosphere. Highly recommended.
Bloody Mary was absolutely fabulous, had a second one after a superb huevos rancheros. Camille our server was very attentive, and fun to talk with. Definitely the best breakfast we've had in a long time! Can't wait to go there for dinner! Beautiful historic atmosphere
The experience was wonderful. The food was not only beautiful in appearance but the taste excited my taste buds. Our waiter was knowledge about the history of the restaurant.
We (two couples) enjoyed a relaxing dinner last night (Wednesday) around 5:45pm. Recommend reservations if you dine any later than that. Our server Will was very gracious and informative. We ordered two 10 oz prime ribs, two petite filet mignon entrees and a specialty cocktail that were perfectly prepared. I was very pleased that Will accommodated my low-sodium and non-dairy requests. It is a beautiful restaurant that is a short, pleasant, about a mile walk on a cement footpath from the hotels located across the river.
Christmas Eve 3 course dinner is not worth $50 per. The service was super slow(an hour & 1/2) for shrimp, entree, & dessert. My husband's country ham was dry, dark and tough...his 2 sides were not good either. Worst meat he's ever had. I couldn't even chew it or tell it was ham! The prime rib was better and desserts were good. We won't return. So disappointed since it was a special occasion.
Better prices than some of the restaurants in the area. Food was edible, but nothing spectacular, except for the pecan bread pudding french toast, which was delicious.
We just drove in from Winter Park area before we head back to Texas and everything we had was excellent and the service was even better! Kyle took great care of us and was able to answer a lot of our questions on the menu as well. PS- the Peppered Steak Herbert was really good and we felt reasonably priced for everything as well.
This place was amazing!!! Totally worth it!! Traveling, the reviews are two sided on Google but it is far better than the Ore place. Our waitress was on top of serving us and getting our food in. Go here for a good steak dinner. Eat steak!
Very nice meal and cheerful service. Soup of the day was potato, which was really delicious, if a bit on the salty side - but highly recommend! This isn't your store bought canned soup, and the difference is incredible. Had the elk tenderloins for dinner, delicious, but thought it could use either more seasoning or more sauce. Either way, wonderfully cooked (rare), and the mashed potatoes were delicious. Veggie medley with sweet potatoes was unexpectedly good, too. All in all, solid meal, didn't blow me away, but where else can you try elk? Recommend! I want extra potato soup.
I have eaten here twice and both times was left disgusted and disappointed. My food was soggy and undercooked the first time for something as simple as the mahogany breakfast, I expected it to at least be cooked properly. The next day, I went in again and ordered the same thing. This time, I asked for it to be cooked well. They sent out everything burnt. The sausage was black and completely inedible and the hash browns were almost black on one side and had almost raw shredded potatoes underneath. Do not go here for breakfast. The food is not good or cooked properly and the management is even worse.
Incredible menu. Fantastic drinks, appetizers entrees. Great service in a beautiful historic building. Safe practices!!! Social distancing, masks worn & everything was sparkling clean.
Don t believe it. Almost an hour wait for food that was frankly pedestrian. This is a restaurant trading on its lovely Victorian interior but serving very average versions of standard items that should be much better for the price. Too many seats for not enough kitchen capacity. Wait staff were very apologetic but it wasn t in their power to fix things. Would not return.
Since we were staying at the Strater Hotel, and this was accessible without going outside in the cold, and we had a $3 credit, we had breakfast here after our first night. Riley was an excellent waitress - attentive to all our needs, knowledgeable about the menu, and very personable. The dining area is beautifully decorated. We especially liked all the mahogany.
Our food was delicious. We had one serving of French toast with fruit (me), chocolate chip pancakes (I sneaked a few bites from my 10 year old niece & it was so good), a short stack of pancakes (2 buttermilk pancakes for husband that he could not finish), bacon, egg & cheese bagel (nephew), and Posole (older niece). My only complaint was the $3 charge for the fruit. Riley said she d charge me $1.50 - the fruit cup price. It was not worth $3 - only about 6 blueberries & a strawberry sliced up.
The atmosphere was lovely. The location was perfect. The food was good. The service was excellent. It was just too pricey for a return visit.
We have been here for breakfast/brunch several times over the last year. The service is consistently bad. The food is just OK. Maybe lunch or dinner is better. All I have experienced recently is brunch. We have decided to finally give up & stop giving them more chances. I guess the restaurant counts on getting business from out-of-towners staying at the hotel because it seems like they aren t earning repeat business from locals.
The traditional atmosphere and decor of Mahogany Grill at the Strater Hotel are special, and some of the staff make very good impressions.
On Christmas Day, with 1pm reservations, we had a decidedly adverse experience with the manager, acting as the maitre d'. Fortunately, two waitresses and the expert kitchen staff performed superbly, enabling my Lady and me to put the "host" out of mind.
The four-course meal was extremely well prepared, with a good array of options. My Lady particularly enjoyed the roasted game hen. The cost was extravagant, but given the paucity of fine dining options in Durango on Christmas, we have no regrets -- just won't ever go that way again. An instance when I wish I could give 3 1/2 stars.
Disgusting. The cole slaw was inedible and the risotto tasted like undercooked uncle bens rice. We paid $90 for 3 of us. It was only memorable because of how bad it was. Please don t go here. You re wasting your money and you ll walk out feeling thoroughly disappointed. The mashed potatoes were on the same level as my old high schools cafeteria, no lie. I wouldn t be typing this much If I weren t so passionately disgusted by this restaurant. The steak was ok but I ve had better at Texas Rhodehouse.
The mahogany grille as a part of the Strater hotel has a great decor loaded with much carved wood and history. We arrived early on a Tuesday so it was very quiet. The service was great as was the food. Peppercorn tenderloin was loaded with black pepper and the chutney sauce complimented it well.
Thanksgiving 2017 Meh!! Not good at all. They were out of carved turkey so they picked up some scraps from platter kid you not. The food was not good enough at all. I was bummed old cold food tough and no turkey! I told our waiter and he turned and walked. For $39 hmmmm should have been $19 for that quality. Not chef inspired. No appology so bummed
Decided to try this restaurant for breakfast. We were not impressed. Potatoes were cold, a medium requested Bene was not medium, it was runny, crispy bacon was dried out & awful. Would of complained about everything but the waitress never came back to check on us! For the price, not worth it. On the other hand though, we like the Diamond Belle Saloon for lunch & Ben the bartender, it s amazing that they use the same kitchen! Diamond Belle, 5 stars, Mahogany 2 at best.
Had breakfast here since we stayed at the Strater and was a bit disappointed. The food wasn't necessarily bad, but everything was very heavy, greasy, and super salty. Nothing out of the ordinary on the menu either, and price was pretty high. Really expected more from here.
The chopped salad wasn't chopped and was loaded with meat. Worst of all even the waitress couldn't identify the mystery meat. Service was average and ambience was so so. All in all a very meh experience.
Had the mixed berry salad with all fresh vegetables from the local farmers market. Amazing 5 oz fillet to finish it off. And of course the bannanas foster.
This is a favorite place for date night. The food options are consistent and always well prepared. Service is usually spot on and have an amazing environment.
My boyfriend and I are on vacation and stopped in the mahogany grill and we will always remember it as a great part of this trip excellent service from everyone and the food was delicious. Excellent experience
Food is great as usual, but sadly waiting several minutes for a table ( it wasn't that busy!) isn't a good start for my most important meal of the day then, again waiting on waiters to actually wait on us ! Argg!! It's almost like having a army of zombies serve you???
Best place I've ever been to. Staff incredible...even manager came by to chat. Food out of this world from 1st bite to last. Adult candy appetite and Herbert steak..oh, woweeeeeee!!!
Would have loved to try this place... Was told that they were closing in 15 minutes (closer to 20) and were told that our service would be rushed... Who says that!?! Exact words after listing some other restaurants he said "or we can seat you but your service and food will be rushed". Thanks but no thanks we prefer classy service to someone who sounds like our business is unwanted. Did I mention that there were people who still were not served in the facility. Me and my fiance we're looking forward to this joint as they were recommended...
Wonderful atmosphere, wait staff and food. We both ordered steaks. Cooked to perfection. Waitress was Taylor. I have never seen a more pleasant, smiling and professional waitress ever. Total experience was a 10.
This place is nice looking and our server Taylor was exceptional. The problem was the food. My husbands shrimp was dry and tough. I ordered a salad, the croutons were stale, and the tomatoes sour. Our sons steak was mediocre. For the price, this was definitely not acceptable.
In comparison to the warm, comfortable feeling felt when first entering the restaurant, the service, food, and atmosphere was disappointing. Before our appetizers arrived to the table, my party I were and frustrated by the inability to make the dishes we wanted. The oyster rockefeller was a nice rendition, and we all enjoyed the shrimp cocktail, although we were again facing the obstacle of choosing another course due to inability to make certain items. The food on the other hand was reasonable, my steak was cooked very well, and the seasoning was simple yet flavorful. All in all, the food was satisfying, but the service could've been better.
The food was amazing! Visiting from out of state and decided to try ya'll out for breakfast and the food was really good! Will definitely be coming back!
Drove up from New Mexico for breakfast and ended up there by accident. Absolutely delicious! Had the lump crab cakes Benedict and was delicious. A small piece of history in downtown Durango.
