Fabulous location. Rooms were good although a bit of wear and tear as expected, however, these could have been fixed as it's a 5 star hotel - spotlessly clean rooms. Service was very good. Tim the concierge was perfect. Restaurant staff were top-notch. Spa was 10 out of 10 - faultless.

Fantastic dedicated Spa Hotel in beautiful gardens. Big thank you to the friendly staff Gaelle and Lawrence in reception, professional masseuse Charlotte in the Spa and Mark and Brenda who served an amazing and delicious breakfast. Also Luciano the waiter at dinner who made you feel like a VIP!

The hotel was lovely but we did not expect the car park charge presented to us at the end of our stay. The charge should have been made clear at the beginning of the stay, not presented at the end when we are under the impression all charges had been paid.

This hotel is set in lovely grounds and the room was pretty nice. However quite a few things really let this Five star hotel down in no particular order:
1. Rooms not very well soundproofed. Could hear people very easily next door as was given a room with an adjoining door. Strangely for a five star hotel you are also given freeze dried Nescafe in your room rather than any attempt at something vaguely nice.
2. We stayed two nights and spent three days in the spa. By day three we found the same tissue in one of the showers that was there on arrival. Same for a packet of toothpicks by the outside pool (i.e. you need to sort your cleaning out guys!!!) On one day the steam room was also out of action simply because it absolutely stank and people just left as soon as they opened the door. This can happen if someone decides to go to toilet in there but the response was far too slow.
3. In the three days we were there the jacuzzi was out of action seemingly with no urgency to get it fixed.
4. One of the morning breakfasts we were going to be squeezed in the most ridiculous room shoulder to shoulder with other guests and have to stand in a long queue snaking in between tables to serve hot breakfast for ourselves from buffet trays. Thankfully it was so full that we went downstairs and ate in a much nicer room where we were actually seated and people took our orders.
5. Unfortunately though, the cooked breakfast was really not good. The veggie breakfast seemed like all frozen food. Sausages anemic. The coffee was like water. Some of the fresh fruit from the buffet was also still frozen.
6. Some of the reception staff could maybe pretend to enjoy working there a bit more?

Nice hotel if you can look past these things but when you check in to a five star hotel and paying five star prices it's kind of hard to.

To me seems more like a low to average four star in a nice building.

Spa is excellent, but does get busy. Hotel restaurant food is good but limited range. Bar snacks disappointing. Service varied, some really good but lacked at times. Perhaps due to festive season.

A nice welcome from the concierge followed by a robotic receptionist taking our details in order to check in.
We were then introduced to our rather tired looking room. Bathroom in need of a revamp as the unsightly silicone was screaming to be desperately replaced and some staining on the pure white sanitary ware was evident in places. A dripping tap and a toilet that flushes far too much water also need addressing.
Wasn't able to sleep much as the bed was made up of a heavy duty quilt that kept us far too hot. The Autumn weather and temperature was mild so the high togged quilt was completely unnecessary and there were no other lighter options available.

Breakfast was average and not really anything to sing and dance about but options were adequate with vegetarians also catered for.

The pool and spa facilities were clean and relaxing with a nice ambience.

The gardens and surrounding areas are beautiful and well maintained.

You have to split this review into two parts. One is the staff and the other is the place so, I will start with the staff. They are faultless. Polite, friendly and they all provide a fantastic customer experience. Now, on to the hotel. More

As a member I have seen the spa facilities studily go down hill over the years.. and today to be asked to pay! For a robe and towel is a sad indictment of how low this spa has gone and not to inform members in writing or even consultation of this change in policy is a disgrace ...and today you were allowing two toddlers (without nappies) in the outdoor heated pool which is filthy is about the last straw and as a member I would be ashamed to recommend the facilities bro anyone

Room was comfortable, spa facilities are good although maybe a little old. There are nice spaces to sit and the staff are friendly and helpful. There s several nice little touches (4 bottles of water in room fridge, fluffy gowns in room. The star is docked for the distinctly unimpressive catering. The evening meal was good service but was a little tasteless - didn t taste fresh, and was very uninspiring in general. I would recommend not eating in the restaurant here, but instead visiting the nearby (15 min) bath city centre restaurants.

Beautiful hotel, stunning decor, lovely rooms, lovely atmosphere, good breakfast and good service. Leisure centre indoor facilities are only ok and need modernising. No steam room or sauna. It's also disappointing that they charge their guests 15 pounds per night to park there!?

5 Stars for the staff, the food, service.

5 Stars for the staff, the food, service.
I have left 4 stars over all because parts of the hotel, including the bedroom my partner, & I stayed in needed updating, & refreshening up. The nature of my business means I stay in regularly in B&Bs, Hotels, I rarely leave reviews, but the Mc Donald Hotel is so very lovely, lots of space for everyone, anyone to sit relax.
Our room did have the luxury of having air conditioning too. A very easy 10min lovely walk down through Sidney Gardens to the City of Bath.
I d really like to keep The Mc Donald Hotel a secret, but I can t really.
Looking forwards to returning soon.

The new armchairs were not very comfortable, too low,the previous ones were much better.Several years ago, with your coffee you had delicious homemade biscuits,2 each, then they were replaced by very small shortbread. At times I even were not offered any biscuits for the same price, after complaining a slice of cake was dug up by a kind waiter! Today we each one were presented with 1 smallish shortbread .

This Hotel is beautiful. Stunning grounds and decor. Staff were happy and friendly
Bedroom was great, comfy bed and nice clean bathroom. Everything you could need was provided.
Breakfast was really good. Cold selection buffet was lovely, varied and plentiful. Full English breakfast was well cooked and hot.
A really nice stay.

Lovely hotel, great location within walking distance to the town centre. Shame the room was so dated, the hotel is under refurbishment so hopefully it won't be long until they rooms are brought more up to date.

I was heavily pregnant so unable to use the spa facilities, the outdoor area was lovely to chill around as it was a lovely summers day.

I would go back again and request a room that wasn't so dated.

Stayed here a couple of weeks ago in general the stay was lovely. Decided to try the food they had to offer, when my meal was presented looked beautiful but tasted off no flavour to the veg waiting time was absolutely shocking waited and hour and half for my meal then waiting time at the bar was exceptionaly long the staff at the reception were rude other than that the stay was okay the room was lovely just a shame to be let down by these aspects

Nice hotel, but over flow for breakfast not great, the last morning of our stay we were in the main dining room for breakfast and it was like we had stayed in two completely hotels. I feel created.

Excellent location in the park and within walking distance to the town centre. I loved the architecture and elegant interiors. Very friendly staff. They extended our check out until noon. Lovely food, best wine and positive vibe. We enjoyed the spa, especially the outdoor hot tub. We booked a twin room with breakfast and dinner included. Very good value for money.

I think the check in at 3.30pm is too late however you can arrive earlier and enjoy the spa. Also I was extremely surprised that this hotel does not offer any massages.

Stayed for one night for my birthday weekend and everything about my stay was amazing. The room was lovely and had everything we needed for the night, the hotel reception was very helpful in checking us in and out and answering all of our questions as it was our first stay (i.e. where was the spa, what time was dinner etc.) I also wanted to say that CJ (I think that was his name) from the restaurant was amazing and gave outstanding service for me - as I am vegan he went out of his way to ensure I had something to eat for dinner and breakfast and constantly checked to make sure everything was okay during our meals. Exceptional service.
The spa was area was well-kept and well-equipped, with a nicely sized indoor and outdoor pool, a jacuzzi, showers and 4 different saunas. The treatments we received were good value for money and we felt well looked after throughout. The spa is located closely to the town centre and the Roman Baths (about a 10 minute walk).
Would definitely stay again, a lovely weekend away for my birthday.

Not really luxury. Hotel is quite posh on outside and has brocade and velvet inside but is starting to look a bit tired. Its only a 15 minute walk into Bath. Spa facilities are nice but small and you are allowed to use them before check-in More

Spa and gym facilities are impeccable. Small gym but well equipped. They use life fitness equipment which can connect up to your smart phone or smart watch apps. They have a large pool with the option of sun loungers and outside pool. Multiple options of steam room and sauna which means you can spend a lot of time relaxing. Staff are friendly and welcoming and will offer you a hand if you need it. Towels are provided. It is clean and checked regularly. Will definitely visit again.

We only stayed for one night, but it was quite pleasant. The room was of a good size but the lifts are a bit ancient. I didn't personally use the spa, but was informed by the wife that it was really good. They also had cooked breakfast in addition to the usual buffet selection.

Room dusty, damp condensation on windows, generally unclean and in need of a revamp. Cracking paint, dodgy sealing across bathroom counters and tiles. Showerhead in a terrible state. Dirt in the bath.

Tried to have a bite to eat in the restaurant area once and waited 35 minutes before alerting a member of staff that nobody had been to serve us once. Waited another 10 minutes and just gave up.

Pool and spa areas are pretty good. That s all.

All staff throughout the stay were keen to smile and say hello but nobody did anything faster than a snails pace. I ve just tried calling reception now to chase my AWOL deposit and the phone dialled for 5 minutes and I have up. Sums this place up really.

This is a fantastic choice if you are looking for ...

This is a fantastic choice if you are looking for a relaxing weekend away. Grand location in beautiful surroundings, and only 20-25 minutes from the city centre by foot. The staff were attentive and friendly, they'll greet you whenever they pass you which I don't see in many hotels. The spa is big- spacious pool, outdoor heated jacuzzi and a well stocked gym.
They do lose a star for a number of reasons. The garden level- which our room was on- smelled quite strongly of chlorine...and a mix of something else ateongly fragranced. At times it made me feel quite nauseous. That and the bathrooms are in desperate need of renovation which you don't expect for the price tag.
Breakfast spread was great- cereals, fruits, jams, pastries and toast. However, you'll be given a chance to order off the breakfast menu (full English etc). Both mornings we either never received the breakfast and had to re-order, or we waited a long time whilst the waiters constantly kept trying to deliver the wrong food to our table. There's a fair bit of disorganisation there so if you can, I'd stick to the continental selection to avoid disappointment.
All in all, I'd stay here again but only if there was a good deal on price wise.

It is very welcoming and nice hotel. The only downside is that staff forgot to clean our room! And when we arrived to the room in the evening I tried to contact reception, concierge, housekeeping and there was no answer. It is a very expensive hotel, just for them to have missed this important matter and not have addressed it.

We stayed here 6 years ago and was so impressed we went back, but oh how the standards have dropped. Before i start i would just like to say that all tiny inconveniences we experienced wouldn't usually bother us individually but collectively it made our stay a lot less enjoyable for the money.
When we arrived we decided to go down to the restaurant where we ordered tea and pastries. Our tea arrived promptly then after 10 minutes we were informed they were baking our pastries, which is lovely but they didn't arrive for another 25 minutes by which time we had finished our tea and were ready to leave, they did give us the pastries for free which was very kind of them.
We were then given our room key which when we arrived at our room didn't work, no problem, we went back to reception where they fixed this for us, though this did happen a further four times over our stay.
On entering the room the first thing we noticed was the view of a brick wall! The bathroom was very tired and even had mould and in the bedroom the dressing table had 4 very noticeable coffee stains. There was a lamp here, the only one by the mirror, which did not work so on phoning reception a man came up very promptly with a new bulb. This did not work with either. We then realised the plug sockets did not work!
We then went and used the pool which is lovely apart from as you walk to the outside pool there is an awful lot of mould around the step area which is very noticeable and disgusting.
We had a very pleasant nights sleep, very quiet and a comfortable bed, though the wardrobe door was hanging off which mean the light inside the wardrobe didn't go off all night.
On our first morning we went down to breakfast. The main restaurant was full so they seated us in another room which was nice but freezing cold. I had to go back to my room, which i couldn't get in to, to retrieve a jumper.
When they seated us they took our coffee order and said they would be back to get our breakfast order. Twenty minutes later no sign of coffee or a waitress though there were enough walking about but not one noticed we had still not received our coffees or been served. At one point i waved to a lady who looked at me and put her head down and walked away! After some time more i went to the entrance where they seat you and asked what time we were seated...we had been sat there for 40 minutes without a single member of staff noticing us and we were in the centre of the room!!!!!!! This is not a 5 star service.
So to summarise i would not recommend this hotel because it is the tiny things that make places 5 star and these are the difference between 5,4 & 3 stars

If your thinking on working here and have children then don't bother, they didn't tell me what days I was working and then I get a text message the night before they want me working which was impossible because I couldn't get a babysitter and such short notice so they phoned me and told me to return my uniform all because I said I couldn't find a babysitter!!

Overpriced. Building is lovely and staff nice but the pool and the amenities were mouldy and tiles coming loose in the sauna. Carpet in our room had a wet spot and was mouldy. We notified the manager about this but the only solution was to spray some airfreshener on the spot. We then asked for a different room but they said they did not have any. No other compensation supplied.

Beautiful setting, impressive building historicall...

Beautiful setting, impressive building historically (feels rather pretentious though), the room was lovely and we enjoyed the spa although it looks a bit dated; treatments we got (facial and massage) were good. On the negative side: Service was quite slow and we had to wait until 3:30pm to be accommodated, which is too late for a 5 star hotel. It didn't help that we were promised to be told as soon as room was ready, and nobody bothered doing so until we asked ourselves at reception. Overall I'd recommend it if you get a good deal on the price, but you will need all the patience you could muster to make it enjoyable.

We stayed here on an autumn deal which was very good value. The spa is fantastic. I especially enjoyed the outdoor area. The walk to Bath took about 15 minutes. The breakfast was delicious. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Stayed for one night. No corners cut here - e.g. super luxurious towels, polite, pleasant and helpful staff, clean and modern swimming pool & spa facilities, lovely garden, spacious parking and just a short walk to the centre of Bath. Splendid breakfast with attentive service from international staff. Very happy to recommend this hotel.

I am still waiting for the reimbursement of the retention of 70 pounds per room that I made on December 3, 2018 booked by booking on behalf of Sergio quintairos. They told us that in two days they would return it.

For a 5 star hotel? the breakfast was very very mediocre. They ran out of vegetarian sausages and were unable to offer any other alternative, the hash browns were too chewy/hard to chew, there isn't a huge patisserie to choose from, they have one type of yoghurt (the Premier Inn breakfasts are much better). On our first night, they were clearly short of staff in the restaurant, it took us over two hours to order and finish a two course meal. We did not go back to the restaurant again to find out if it was a one off. The grounds and settings are beautiful. I cannot fault the cleaning staff. The housekeeping itself was in keeping with most 5* hotels that I've been in. Thankfully they put the hotel bill the night before we checked out. It gave us a chance to spot all the mistakes, such as overcharging us for lunches that we never had and could not have had. Do check the bills!!! We will not be returning, and I don't recommend this if you have children.

For the price that I paid for 3 nights, I would not return. I found the hotel to be clean overall and I liked the gym equipment but the housekeeping were loud every morning talking loudly to each other and banging hoover hoses against my door. It was like they didn't realise that there were people possibly sleeping in the bedrooms past 8 in the morning.

This place is exceptional, service and staff couldn t have been any better! Everything went very smooth, we even got an upgrade to a room on the second floor. The place itself is beautiful with very impressive architecture and decoration. The gardens on the outside were wonderful and very very picturesque. Valet service is also available.

Not worth the money at all! The Aircon works during the day but come 6 automatically turns heating on which made our room sweltering wouldn't have been to bad during winter but with the amazing weather we have had recently it was just impossible to sleep. We went to reception and nothing was done. Went to have a bath cold tap doesn't work at all, turns but no water showers weren't that hot and half the jet wasn't working. The teapot we got served for both mornings was disgusting! Also the inside and outside pools are very run down and grubby!

We have given this hotel another go and are glad we did, huge improvement from our previous visit... Much more like the old bath spa... Great food, great spa, great staff.. Couple of issues that were sorted by staff, no dramas at all. I would like to see a bit of a dress code for dinner

The finance company that held a property investment seminar at this hotel Tuesday evening on the 14th did not express any form of encouragement for me to invest with them only to relieve myself of thousands of pounds for their so called expertise.in my opinion it lowered the tone of the hotel.it doesn't come as a surprise when you Google their offer of further "tuition"how to spend your proposed property money,
