My grandmother has been in the nursing home for 6 ...

My grandmother has been in the nursing home for 6 years now. At this point much of my family is on a first name basis with many of the staff.

The facility is always clean. It does not look, nor feel like a stereotypical nursing home.

My grandmother is currently in the memory care unit and is now in a wheelchair. With this, she has staff that come and bring her communion every Sunday morning so she never misses one. Keep in mind we never asked the staff to do this. They do it out of the kindness of their hearts and because they care.

These are the kinds of small details and care your family members will be receiving at the Lutheran Home.

Having a grandmother with dementia is not easy but the Lutheran Home has made the entire experience easier on both myself and my family members. I truly can't thank them enough. They treat her like a queen.

Recently, our family member became a resident at the Lutheran Home in Arlington Heights. The care that is provided to their residents is head and shoulders above anything else we had experienced. My first contact with the Lutheran Home was with Sonija Telles. She was great! Sonija was kind, patient and informative. Any question I had, she provided me with the answer. That was just the beginning of this very difficult journey. Rana Nahhas, with Social Services, made herself available to me for so many tasks. Always just a phone call away. The nursing staff has always made themselves available to update me on the progress of my loved one. Even the Hair Salon/Barber Shop staff are accommodating! This is a new chapter in my family's life and it has been my experience that the staff at Lutheran Home has made it their mission to make this transition comforting to us all. It is a wonderful place for your loved one.

As a pastor, I have visited parishioners and friends at the Lutheran Home for over 30 years. I have always found the facility to be in excellently maintained condition and the staff to be friendly, helpful, and professional. Before it was the typical style, this Home has always had single person rooms; the private rooms are a real plus for those seriously ill or recuperating from an illness; as well as for those who simply need time alone. The programs and auxialliary facilities (like the gift shop and cafe) also add to the experience. The various levels of care are also a great blessing for the residents and their families.

When I first volunteered at Lutheran retirement home, I was so happy to see all the elderly people and helping them around. Me volunteering at the retirement home made a special person and always willing to help out around and greeting the elders. I would highly recommend this retirement home. You make a difference in the elders life by helping them out .

An excellent experience in every way! A professional and caring staff from the first encounter, through to Rehab and onto Nursing for my Mother. A spotless and beautiful home like atmosphere, well thought out and intergrated into every stage of Senior Living. Personnel that truly cared about the person and the process of ensuring her comfort and well being. An outstanding PT staff and facility that achieved improvement in my Mother's mobility that haden't occurred in other locations over the past year. My highest recommendation.

Our family can't say enough good things about the Lutheran Home. Our daughter has been in Shepherds Flock for over 2 years and she has had an amazing experience. She always talks about the grandmas and grandpas that she gets to visit throughout the day and she even knows some of them by name as we walk the halls after school. You can see the resident's face light up when they see the little kids. Truly a great idea to have a daycare program on site with a senior living community.

We have also had multiple friends of our family stay in MyRehab after knee replacement surgery. They all talked about how clean the community was, how friendly and caring the staff was and how great the food tasted! While they weren't looking forward to a stay in a long term care community they were all very pleased after they did and have recommended it to their friends.

Although our mother was only in the Lutheran Home rehabilitation and then nursing home facility for a very short time before she passed, my brother, sister and I will always be grateful for the excellent care she received. All of the nurses, nursing assistants and the administrative staff were so kind to all of us during this very difficult time. The facility was very clean, and although she didn't eat very much, the meals looked great. Our family will be recommending The Lutheran Home to anyone and everyone looking for a great caring facility for their loved ones.

While the place was clean, that is the only good t...

While the place was clean, that is the only good thing i have to say. The Social Worker there was totally unresponsive to our needs and seemed to put money over concern for the patient. My sister broke her hip in October and because of other health issues theywere not able to repair it. She was placed in my rehab at Luther Home under Medicare. We were told she would receive therapy and under medicare, she had 100 day paid for. A month before the 100 days were up, we were told that medicare would no longer pay and we had 2 days to get out or start paying $300.00 a day. It took us a week and a half to fine a place to move her to. so we had to pay $2100.00. i informed the Social worker that we would need a hospital bed and she told me she would order it and have it delivered before my sister was discharged. Guess what, 4 days later and still no bed. My sister is sleeping on a hide a bed with a broken hip in great pain. My biggest complaint is the non responsiveness by Lutheran Home and the social worker. I have left urgent messages with no response at all. i guess they just don't care. They have never returned my calls unless i go there and try to track them down. Stay away from this place.

Lutheran Home offers Parkinson's exercise classes ...

Lutheran Home offers Parkinson's exercise classes that are exceptionally good. We meet twice a week & are directed by Kasia. We all love her enthusiasm, caring attitude & it is the most fun in my week! LHome offers us a social hour/brunch after the exercise class. This is also important in the understanding of people with Parkinson's Disease. Three cheers for Lutheran Home....!!

This review is being posted for Linda Knoll:
"The best teacher, best music, best exercise. i leave feeling inspired, content, calm & fulfilled. The brunch is great also.... Thanks, Lutheran home!!"

On 12/15/18 i attended the Jazz Nativity presentation in the chapel at the Lutheran Home. It was superbly done -- jazz musicians, chorus, singers, dancers etc were very professional. This was a beautiful way to get into the Christmas spirit. Thank you. Shirley

I m a caregiver for a lady who is 91 years old, has many medical problems but is very competent and able to do many things for herself. There are things she needs help with periodically and if I m not there, the people at the Lutheran Home are most helpful and respectful. The volunteers are great to have around and the people in every department are there to help you in every way possible.

My mom, who is 87, recently entered the Memory Care part of The Lutheran Home. I could not have been more pleased with the care and compassion that I received from one individual especially, Ms. Sonija Telles. Sonija alleviated my stress and sadness as my mom made the transition into memory care. It is never easy making that decision for an elderly parent, but when you have someone like Sonija to guide you every step of the way - you truly have an angel by your side. I have been treated with the utmost of respect and compassion by all the staff at The Lutheran Home and know that my mom is where she needs to be and that she will be taken care of in a way that I cannot. My sincere appreciation to The Lutheran Home Staff and to Sonija.

Two of my dear friends are at the Lutheran Home in Arlington Heights now, one in My ReHab for rehabiliation for a fractured ankle and the second for senior care and ongoing living. I have visited both women often during the last few weeks and the quality of care they are receiving is exceptional from multiple shifts of care providers. The varied needs of both women have been respectively served by an exceptionally warm, friendly and qualified staff - nurses, physical and occupational therapists, etc. Also, the private rooms are spacious, kept very clean and organized for each patient and their guests.

Luther Village is a very attractive well maintained facility enjoyed by some 700 residents. An aunt of mine who lived in 3 centuries spent her last years in the home and raved about the care she was receiving. One of her daughters (my cousin) is currently a resident of the home and speaks well of her care. My older brother is currently living in a 2 bedroom unit of the Campbell House mid-rise and enjoys the social activities available to all residents. My wife and I have experienced the friendliness of the staff and residents in recent years by attending many "lunch & learn" functions. For us, it is a "family affair"!

My husband was a patient during the summer of 2016, for almost a month. I was very impressed with the lovely facility and the quality of the staff. Their record-keeping was excellent--they were always on top of his rehab, PT, etc. The junior members of the staff were very nice and he related to them. The more senior nurses, etc., were very compassionate and helpful, always willing to answer my questions. The PT staff were very helpful and did a good job. As he was getting ready to be discharged, the managers were helpful. My husband did not love the food, but I think that was a function about the menu items, many of which he never eats, rather than the quality of the food.

My grandmother lived in the Lutheran Home for several years and I was always very happy with the care she was provided. She was never treated like just another patient, the nurses and other staff members always treated her like an individual. I got to know the nurses on her floor and they were always welcoming and quick to give me an update on her day and care. It is a hard to put the care of a family member in someone else's hands, but I would absolutely trust the staff at the Lutheran Home.

We have been attending the Senior Exercise Program...

We have been attending the Senior Exercise Program, led by Kasia Lapinska Jablonski, at the Lutheran Home for the past 2 years and this is the most affordable and caring program. The program is held twice a week on Monday's and Thursday's for one hour and after exercise, a beautiful light breakfast brunch is served to us.
Kasia is extraordinary in her care towards every person in the room. Kasia puts us through our moves with Tai Chi, Salsa, Zumba, and after an hour's length of fun, we have thoroughly exercised every muscle while working on our balance.
Thank you to the Lutheran Home for marketing themselves in such a way that we would be quick to promote rehabilitation, long term care, or residential living at the Lutheran Home located in beautiful Arlington Heights. Did I say the food was wonderful? Did I say that Kasia Lapinski Jablonski makes this program easy and fun?
Both Bill and I look forward to the camaraderie established with our co-exercise men and women. Thank you! Thank you! to Linda Smith for creating this program.
And a great big thank you to Kasia for your expertise, your cute dialog, your care and helping all of us "kick it up a notch". XXX OOO

I spent several days and was impressed with how friendly the entire staff was and so patient with residents that had any issues. The food was warm and nourishing with the options for many substitutes.Because I was doing so well I received a little longer therapy on the day before I was leaving and no afternoon. SO I had nothing to do the rest of the day. The therapist were very good and helpful. The release went well the next day in a timely fashion. Also if I asked for something, like a refill on soap it came quickly. I definitely would recommend this rehab center.

The Lunch and Learn programs are tremendously informative about a variety of topics. Some topics deal with health issues, some are informative about history or historical facts, and some are just really entertaining. I never go away without learning something new to willingly share with family and friends. Today's presentation on the history of Chicago candy was "sweet".

The environment lends itself to meeting new people from the area or residents of Lutheran Home who are happy to share how much they enjoy living there.

Linda Smith does an excellent job of bringing these programs to the community and never fails to end a program with a little trivia fun. Prior to every lunch, which is always delicious, grace is said by the pastor. A delightful way to spend a morning, learning something new and breaking bread with new friends.

I work for the local high school district as a Job Coach for students with special needs who are Student Volunteers at the Lutheran Home every school day. It is a win/win situation these young adults gain valuable skills while assisting at the Lutheran Home in so many ways, and the Lutheran Home benefits from their services. I am honored to be a part of this wonderful program and very pleased that the Lutheran Home allows us to be a part of their operations on a daily basis. The staff is so warm and welcoming and the facilities are excellent. The students also love interacting with the residents. Because I am at LH on a daily basis, I see what an excellent home this is for the residents. I would definitely consider the Lutheran Home in the event I needed a facility.

This place is horrible for the elderly! The care is very poor. They are not checked on near as much as they should be. My elderly mom had colon cancer surgery. This place came highly recommended by the nurses at hospital. Ha! What a joke. The food is barely edible. My mother woke up and her sugar level was at 34!! She's a diabetic. She could have died. They gave her a glass of orange juice, checked her numbers again, they were 69, and said she was fine. No, those numbets, are still too low. My daughter is a type 1 diabetic . I know all about this. Awful place!!!

Today my husband Fred and I attended a Special Event at 11:00 A.M.,
"Active Shooter Presentation", in the beautiful Chapel of St. John in the
Lutheran Home in Arlington Heights. It began at 11:00 A.M. These programs are available for residents, as well as members of the community.

A Police Officer from Buffalo Grove gave us very valuable information
about how to be aware of our surroundings, and what to do in case we
find ourselves in a location where an attack is taking place.

After the presentation we were served a delicious lunch of stuffed green
peppers, with pecan pie for dessert.

We always enjoy the Special Events that are offered at Lutheran home,
and we enjoy meeting, and seeing again, the very friendly people that
attend these very interesting and educational events.

Sincerely,
Fred and Sharon Moeller

Recently after a fall, my mother in law entered rehab at The Lutheran Home. After receiving excellent nursing care, she progressed into her own assisted living apartment in Hearthstone. She s been living by herself for many years, resisting independent living facilities. Now at 92, with dementia rapidly progressing, she s agreed she needs more help. Her apartment is bright and sunny. We ve furnished it with her own belongings to make it homey for her. She has no worries about cooking her own meals. Activities occur frequently during the day. She goes to chapel every Sunday without having to worry about braving the elements. The staff is friendly and always helpful. We feel she s receiving excellent care. Our family would highly recommend The Lutheran Home.
