I recently adopted 2 kittens through Beth stern through her org. One of my kittens needed to be spayed. Her brother was already neutered. I live in brooklyn this vet is of course a bit far. I couldnt be happier with the service I received, and I honestly think I will keep them as my vet anyway. Emily the vet tech remembered taking care of my kitten when she and her siblings were found. When I picked up my kitten today she was relaxed and happy. The vet even called me personally today to go over her spay and say how much she enjoyed having my kitten.

I brought my 9 year old orange tabby for an eye evaluation. We did not have to wait. Dr. Kim s assistants did several preliminary procedures. They were gentle and very efficient. Dr. Kim then evaluated Alibaba with great deftness, thoroughness and care. She communicated her diagnosis clearly. We were very impressed and recommend her and LIV Specialists very highly!! An excellent experience.

From the minute I walked in with Paprika, I knew I was in the right place. I spent 5 hours at another emergency care place, but did not feel comfortable leaving Paprika there. Thank God my vet referred me to LIVS. I first met with Dr. Krawchuck, who was amazing. She could see that I was a complete mess because of what was going on with Paprika (she ended up having abdominal surgery because of a blockage in her stomach). She took the time to explain everything that was going on with her, what she thought needed to be done in order to get the situation under control and get her comfortable quickly and then explained the steps going forward. While the last thing I wanted to do was leave Paprika, Dr. Krawchuck spoke with such compassion and confidence that I actually felt relieved that Paprika was going to get the attention and care she needed and felt much better about leaving her. The next day I met Dr. Leyva, (the surgeon who operated on Paprika) -- also amazing. Very compassionate and professional. I must have asked him a dozen questions (some probably more than once) before and after the surgery and he answered them all very patiently. At one point he grabbed a diagram so that I had a better understanding of the surgery and what was done. Then, there was Dr. Larkin. I believe he was in the surgery with Dr. Leyva. He was also very compassionate and professional (had a soft spot for pitbulls). I honestly cannot imagine having a better team of doctors helping Paprika (and her mom) through this traumatic experience. Paprika was a guest at LIVS for 6 days and 5 nights. I received phone calls twice a day from Dr. Krawchuck, Dr. Leyva and/or Dr. Larkin, whoever it was that was caring for Paprika that day. Laura also played a big part in Paprika's stay at LIVS. She was very kind and gentle and her concern for Paprika was genuine.
Thank you all so much for taking such good care of my girl!

ER usually very good but expensive. Terrible experience with Internal Medicine - Dr. Tumulty treats you as though you don't belong there, and I've heard this from others as well. Don't trust their test results as they sometimes mix them up. Cardiologist Dr. Goodwin however was the most positive experience I've had with a veterinarian.

As an emergency vet practice they are very accommodating and quick to help your pet. That being said they are Horrible Price Gougers! They are fully aware that you are in a vulnerable state when you enter their office and charge double for most procedures in comparison to your typical vet. I can understand an automatic emergency care fee of $150 the second you walk in, but charging double the going rate for x-rays etc. is pretty obnoxious! Bottom Line, if your pet is in a dire situation then they have great staff, but you will pay out the nose!

In mid July our beloved little min pin, Chloe passed in her sleep at 13 1/2 years old. We took her to LIVS Plainview. We were treated with such kindness and concern. The staff was so kind to my husband and I. They even gave us a clay paw print of Chloe's, with written instructions on how to bake it. We so cherish that paw print. I highly recommend LIVS Plainview. The facility is clean and beautiful and has a great staff!! Thank You for the kindness you showed to us at a very difficult time!!!

Really great place. Went in for an emergency with my dog and they took him right in. Unfortunately we had to put him down but they were incredibly caring and patient about it. Said they would wait however long for the rest of my family to get there to say goodbye. Highly recommend.

Brought in my 3 yr old guy tonight after he got a hold of one of my medications-- I had called the ASPCA poison control center and they said bring him to a vet asap. As we were leaving home he was starting to show behavioral signs that he definitely wasn't himself and I was pretty worried. Front office staff at LIVS were calm and friendly on the phone and in person. When we arrived my boy was seen almost immediately. Dr Lieberman was nothing short of phenomenal. Before I knew the prognosis I told her point blank I absolutely adore this dog do WHATEVER must be done for him. (I realized later I had essentially just handed over a verbal figurative blank check-- but faced with the situation I genuinely felt like money was something I would handle later.) After he was fully evaluated it was determined that he was (Thank goodness) NOT in a critical situation but should be carefully monitored for the night. Dr Lieberman came into the room and explained all of my options and that he was stable enough to go home. She explained he could be monitored in the ICU overnight but it would be at least $2,000+ and the medicine he had eaten was extremely unlikely to cause any permanent damage. She could have easily walked into the room and just told me he needed to stay there overnight and I would have not even questioned it. But Dr. Lieberman didn't do that -- she was direct and honest---and since he essentially was safe and just needed a close "mom-eye" monitoring him for the night I brought him home and saved THOUSANDS of dollars. And not only was Dr Lieberman honest, thoughtful and thoroughly comprehensive in my boys care and evaluation, she actually took the time to completely explain the biochemistry at a cellular level to me --exactly WHY the overdose of this particular medication was not dangerous.
Overall my experience with LIVS was outstanding. Dr. Lieberman is a living example of a truly extraordinary vet with awesome doggy AND people skills. I genuinely don't believe my boy or I could have been treated with more care, thought, kindness or honesty. A+ --- 5 stars.

The doctors may have a good read on paper and they may be good at what they do, i really can't say for sure. I agree with so many of the reviews I've read on yelp and the reviews on Facebook is a joke because they are generic reviews. The assistant staff is pleasant but the vet I dealt with for my dog's nerve sheath tumor remove spoke maybe 3 sentences to me. No compassion, no details just procedure and not even details on what she was going to do. After the MRI I took my dog home that night and she was reacting strangely to the anesthesia, I knew it would be but wasn't sure how strange it was. When the vet called me to tell me the results I told her that my dog was acting as if she didn't know where she was, instead of telling me it's normal and giving me more help (I got more reading the internet) she said while giggling well let's hope she knows where she lives YEAH HA HA ! But because my vet who I trust said they are good at what they do I had my dog operated on by them, I'm not even sure if she actually did the surgery because after all was said and done i didn't even see her. I saw other vets who at least had a bedside manner and spoke to me about what to expect and how she was doing. I really did not feel confident with this group and YES it's all about money. After spending over $3000 for an MRI they has the audacity to call me up to the desk to tell me I owed them $3, YES $3 dollars!!!! Knowing that I'd be back to shell out another $2000 for the surgery. I'm not impressed with them. My dog lasted 3 months, I don't blame them for this but I was less than impressed with their service especially that of Catherine A. Loughin, DVM, Dip. ACVS, Dip. ACCT. Someone needs to teach her how to talk to owners. I actually made a comment to a tech about her lack of communication and they laughed and said yeash she doesn't say much but she'll tell you what you need to know. Yeah barely, thank goodness my regular vet. Dr. Wen is absolutely the greatest, I had to rely on him reading the reports back to me and explaining things and what to expect.

Very disappointed in how they took care of my dog. Sent her home only to have the wound open up again, did not even re-bandage her, left the makeshift bandage I put on her and told me there was nothing else they could do at this time. After waiting over 4 hours to see the doctor, who barely saw her for 15 minutes. They were very quick to overcharge me though. Will not return EVER!!!

I couldn't be more pleased with LIVS. We brought our poor puppy, Vita, in with very little hope. After weeks at our regular vet we were ready to say our good-bys. The care we received at LIVS was outstanding. The attention by their entire staff was wonderful. The specialist who took care of Vita, called after the first critical weekend to just to check on her, and asked us to bring her in for a visit because she was concerned.
If you want the very best care for a beloved pet, you will be well served by the doctors at LIVS. Vita is still not out of the woods, but I have every confindence that the best chance she has for survival lies with LIVS and my wife Debbie.

Went in for recheck of my pups eye. As always front staff was very friendly and there was a very short wait time. Dr. Sapienza is a amazing doctor who takes his time with my dog and explains everything clearly. There is a eye doctor closer to my home but I would travel even farther to see this doctor.

Amazing staff! From the front desk, to the vet techs, to the doctors! They have seen 3 of my 4 dogs and have gone above and beyond for them and their health. Yes it can be expensive but why would you ever want to cheap out on your pet who is a family member! Get pet insurance or don t have a pet if expenses can be too much. Livs has been there for my family dog growing up when he had eye problems. Now they have been there for my lab mix with her skin issues, my frenchie with his eye problems and to check my other frenchie to give me assurance that he wasn t developing similar eye problems. Dr barber of dermatology and Dr Kim of ophthalmology and their staff members have been incredible, thorough, caring and very detailed in how they have diagnosed and dealt with my dogs issues. They go over all possibilities, all options for a solution, they advise you on what they would recommend but leave it up to you, stay on top of the situation and are always straightforward! I would highly recommend either doctor or livs in general! Amazing staff all around. Thank you to livs for all they have done for my dogs thus far!

OMG! I WAS WORRIED AS OUR 8 MONTH OLD PUPPY VOMITTED A FEW TIMES IN A FEW MINUTES. WE CONTACTED OUR VET BUT HE WAS CLOSED TODAY AND HE INSTRUCTED US TO GO HERE. I'M IN "PEOPLE" MEDICINE AND IF A PERSON VOMIT'S, FIRST IS AN ABDOMINAL X-RAY TO RULE OUT AN OBSTRUCTION. NOT AT THIS FACILITY! FIRST IS A CREDIT CARD AUTHORIZATION FORM THEN AN UPSELL FOR IV THERAPY, EXTENSIVE BLOODWORK, ANTINAUSEA MEDICINE, ETC. THE VET DIDN'T EVEN EXAMINE HIM AS THE VET KEPT CALLING HIM A SHE! I KNOW IN MEDICAL SCHOOL, WE ARE TAUGHT TO AT LEAST DIFFERENTIATE MALE FROM FEMALE! IT WAS OBVIOUS THEY WANTED TO JUST UPSELL STATING HE WAS LETHARGIC AS WELL AS DEHYDRATED. WRONG! HIS TAIL WAS WAGGNG ON THE WAY THERE AND PLAYING AND MOST OBVIOUSLY FAR FROM DEHYDRATED AS THEY STATED. WE DID NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE HAVING THIS FACILITY CARE FOR OUR PET. NEEDLESS TO SAY AFTER DEMANDING OUR PET BACK AND REFUSING UNNECCESSARY TESTING AND TREATMENT AND MUCH RESISTENCE FROM THE STAFF OF WHAT HE NEEDED WITHOUT EVEN UNDEGOING AN EXAMINATION AS IT SEEMED A COOKIE CUTTER TREATMENT FOR MONEY,
WE GOT OUR DOG BACK!
I WOULD NEVER GO TO THIS SO CALLED VETERINARIAN HOSPITAL AGAIN! IN MEDICINE THE FIRST RULE IS DO NO HARM! AT THIS FACILITY, YOU DON"T KNOW WHAT WOULD HAPPEN ONCE THEY TAKE YOUR PET IN BEHIND THEIR DOORS. WE TOOK OUR DOG HOME AND HE WAS FINE! PLAYING, EATING, RUNNING AND ACTING HIMSELF. GOOD THING WE KNOW GOOD MEDICINE WHICH IS A PRIORITY IN EITHER PEOPLE OR ANIMAL MEDICINE AS COMPARED TO SALESMANSHIP!

This place has become a factory; growing too big for its own good. Have brought my dogs here for several years across different departments (surgery, oncology, ophthalmology) and Dr Kim (ophthalmology) remains one of the most talented specialists I ve encountered and Dr Wagner (surgery) has excellent bedside manners. That said, the place is otherwise completely disorganized and unprofessional, with little-to-no customer service over the last 12 months. Aside from this, one of our dogs was misdiagnosed across several treatment plans. They are doing their best but clearly have prioritized their expansion and profits versus customer care and consideration. I would recommend going elsewhere if you are able to.

When bringing your pet to an animal hospital you e...

When bringing your pet to an animal hospital you expect that your pet will be taken care of medically, physically and sanitarily. You expect communication and clear communication for that matter. At Long Island Veterinary Specialists I experienced a lack of communication and empathy. On top of dealing with the stress of my cat being sick, he is returned to my care covered in feces and smelling like urine. We also noticed his stomach was covered in cuts and scraps from where his fur was shaved. Their care for my cat seemed to come second, and charging my card was always first.

I reached out to the hospital and explained my concerns, and I was told that the only thing they would do for me is groom my cat (which I did the day he came home) and told me to come in so they could apply ointment on his wounds that were 5 days old at that point. I was told something along the lines of Well this happens sometimes, usually you would be informed. I was told to post my complaints online, so that is exactly what I am doing. They seemed like they were reading off a script and were following protocol on what they had to say to someone with a complaint. There was a serious lack of compassion and THAT right there is the problem I have with Long Island veterinarian specialist . So when considering to bring your pet here, remember your pet is just a dollar sign to them. Look at my boys poor belly . Over 4k and they couldn't careless how they sent him home

Love your facility. Everything was taken care of in a very professional manner. The staff and doctors are very knowledgeable, caring and explain things well. You do it all! So happy you re near home on Long Island. We are extremely satisfied with our experience today. Many thanks.

FOLLOW UP INFO: After the initial appointment we scheduled surgery for a lung torsion (twisted lung) surgical procedure (lung lobe removal) for our dog. LIVS doctors and staff are amazing! Our dog was treated well by all and he was convalescing well at home within 3-4 days. They did a GREAT job. We had two follow-up appointments and he was cleared. There is no other facility on Long Island that is like this place. We would have had to travel to NYC for comparable care which we have done in the past before LIVS came to Long Island. So happy they are here and that they are FABULOUS! If your dog or cat needs specialty care this is the place to go!!!

Follow up- Dr Leyva has been such a blessing as have the rest of the staff. Laura- vet tech, has been amazing too. We love them! They are such caring and compassionate people. There are so many excellent people to recognize, praise and thank. They have taken care of our Shetland Sheepdog, Rascal, and he has received the Very best care possible from them at LIVS. They care about Rascal s welfare and well-being as much as we do. Many thanks forever and always !

We adopted a puppy on May 24th 2019 from North Shore Animal League. Everything was fine until the evening of May 31st when she suddenly became ill. We rushed her to LIVS where she was diagnosed with Parvo. Dr. Tumulty and the entire staff gave her round the clock care for seven days and and thankfully she made it through. Charley has been home with us for less than 24 hours but we can see that our little miracle puppy is happy, playful, energetic and a full blown puppy again. We can't thank everyone at LIVS enough especially Dr. Tumulty and Lois for saving our Charley's life!

Back in Nov my Yorkie named Pancake suddenly lost her ability to see do to cataracts. I was referred to Dr Sapenza from my primary vet and few other people I do some dog rescue with. Within 3 visits to the Doc Pancake was able to get her vision back, they explain the whole process to you as you get ready for the surgery, personally for us this was an exceptional experience for myself and Pancake. Thank you Dr. Sapenza, Susan and staff for making Pancake whole again for me.

Good news spreads fast. It is obvious the quality of work here is known by the overly packed parking lot. Did a pet newsletter go out I didn t get telling of the great care here? I took my boy to see Dr. Holdsworth and Emily. I trust Dr. Holdsworth to the fullest extent and knew my boy would be in the best skilled hands. She s very caring and will do everything possible to make sure your pet is well taken care of and pain free. I have told everyone in my family to bring their fur kids here for emergencies. And to start saving now, quality care is worth the cost. My cousin is taking her dog who suffers from severe ear infections and is in constant pain to see the dermatologist today. She wanted to see Dr. Holdsworth but was recommended to see the derm. I strongly believe this place has top of the line doctors that will do everything possible to save your pets.

As I have several times in the past I recently took my cat to Long Island Veterinary Specialists when he needed surgery, and as always I couldn't be happier with the results. Dr. Carver and Dr. Loughin are always on their game, honest, reliable, sensible, and kind. The entire staff is always friendly and helpful. The prices are competitive with other specialty hospitals (as I have made the mistake of going elsewhere on one occasion) and to be honest I would not care if they were the most expensive, they are worth it for the peace of mind I get when my babies are in their care.

Straight up crooked, hand me a bill for 8k at 11pm at night and wouldn't keep my dog unless I paid at least half up front even though nothing was happening until the following day. Ended up charging me $200 for just bringing my dog to them, nothing else, I saw no doctor, got no other info besides what my vet who referred me there told me. Never ever again... Shows you what they really care about.

BEWARE. I normally would not take the time to post a review but I cannot believe what some places get away with. This place is FOR PROFIT ONLY. At the recommendation of my vet, I brought my beloved little dog for a consult for physical therapy after knee surgery (done by my vet). I had a 1pm appointment and waited one hour to be seen. The vet spent 10 minutes with us (most of that time was waiting for a price for physical therapy) and charged us $168.00 (a fee that no one told me about until after). I complained about the fee. I did not expect my dog to be looked at for no charge. But I was charged $168.00 to wait for an hour in the waiting room and then have a vet wiggle my dogs knee. Under protest, I paid it anyway. I then purchased a $240.00 package of 6 laser treatments to help blood flow to his knee. After the treatments were complete, they told me they had to recheck him. They wanted to charge another $99.00 to recheck him. I will bring him back to my vet for a recheck and will never come back. They take advantage of your love for your pet and use it to line their pockets

I can't say enough great things about the Team at Long Island Veterinary Specialists -from the receptionists to the Doctors - every person I interacted with extremely professional, responsive and knowledgeable. The whole Team made what could have been an extremely stressful time for my pets and me as pleasant as possible. Each question I asked was answered - I NEVER felt rushed and really had the sense that they really cared about my pets. Special thanks to Dr. Morgan and Marianna for all of the extra time they spent with me explaining options, procedures and restrictions.

My German Shepard who was 7 years old was under their care for a back surgery. During that time, he contracted a UTI And a bacteria that was antibiotic resistant From LIVS. Unknowingly, Cole was discharged and an antibiotic that my dog needed was neglect fully not put on his medication discharge by LIVS staff. The infection staff infection was so significant - it traveled so fast through his body he needed to be euthanized just a few weeks later. On top of all of this , my experience with LIVS front desk staff during this time was extremely unprofessional when asked to help be a liaison between ourselves and their surgeons and doctors. It was a nightmare. It was several times nights waiting for phone calls and pleading with both doctors and staff to help us manage Coles care with a simple phone call. Since his death, I have reached out pretty much every few days to speak with managerial staff to review this situation , and not to my surprise , I have yet to hear back. I never even received a sympathy card from them which is protocol at most facilities. I promised myself I would give them a chance to return my call before I wrote a review. However, they refuse to be attentive to this situation and acknowledge Cole died because of them.

Last night my sweet 11 year old dog was unable to breathe since May we have been back and forth with our MAIN VET, unfortunately she took a turn for the worst on labor day. We called in advanced in tears saying we needed to come in and put her down as we knew that was our only option left. Upon arrival my 50lbs dog I had to carry in was taken from me and taken "to the back" for evaluation. We did not come in asking for any sorts of evaluation it was clear she could not breathe as her tongue was blue. We had been dealing with her health issues for the last couple of years. We all knew it was time to say goodbye both my parents, my sister and I. For A HOUR AND 15 MINUTES I sat in the waiting room to get my baby girl back and hold her in my arms until it was time to say goodbye. I was only able to see here for about a half hour before we had to put her down. Horrible experience in losing a member of our family. There was no reason to keep her away from us stress her out and upset her more. I will not be returning here ever

I have had many dogs and active ones at that. And sometimes they get injured. I wouldn t take my pets anywhere else. The moment we enter we get a warm welcome from the staff at the front desk. The lobby is clean and comfortable. The first encounter inside the exam room is with a technician. They gather all the information for the Doctor. Shortly after the Dr. comes in. Dr. Marino explains everything that needs to be done in plain english. My pets have had allergies, knee surgery, eye issues etc. It really is everything under one roof.
