Beautiful food, helpful staff. Couldn't fault anything, in fact we returned the next day while in York for a couple of days because we enjoyed it so much the night before. Try it, you won't be disappointed!
Very good. Service was very friendly and very good. Starters were all excellent (garlic & chili prawns, fried halloumi and crispy sprats) mains were very good (filleted sea bream and turbot) and desserts were of equal quality (treacle tart, Eton mess and a very original cheesecake). Recommended.
Good food, nice personnel and great value on the menu
We have been dining here every December for years with the exception of the floods four years ago and the staff have always been friendly and the service overall great, when we first ate here the food was amazing and above par compared to other restaurants around a York however recently although the service is always great the food is not as it was in some cases. I m was a fan of their fish and chips but gone are the minted crushed peas and exceptionally tasty batter and chips worth the slightly more expensive price however budgets have been cut and the dish is no better than your average pub although the price continues to rise as quality falls. Sad as this was one of our favourite places to dine in York, possibly it s take over by one of the large pub chains has compromised its standards.
Amazing food. If you got there with kids they should be happy.
The food was good but the portion sizes were variable. We had the mussels (good portion size), salmon (again good portion size), hake (reasonable portion size) and smoked haddock (small portion size). We weren't rushed through our dinner, in fact they could have been a little quicker with the courses. Overall a good experience one which I will be willing to undergo again.
Had a while to wait for our starters, but the food was excellent.
We went early afternoon on New year's Eve. I had potted smoked mackerel & Haddock and mash. My wife had some olives and then mussels. We both thoroughly enjoyed the food. The service was spot on too.
We go a couple of times a year and it's always good.
A safe bet if you are new to dining in York.

Had a fantastic night. Social distancing was well thought out and made no difference to a great atmosphere. Food excellent all served with smiling eyes. As staff all wore masks. Our waitress was very attentive chatting and helping by explaining dishes we were interested in. Very knowledgeable.

This was our first time going and we both loved the food. Definitely going back, just need to find a babysitter.
Disappointed got gift voucher but couldn't choose from main menu even though we were willing to pay the difference. Very small voucher menu to choose from. Not happy at all. They need to change their policy.
Decent food, relaxed contemporary but a bit pricey!
Herring salad was one of the best herring dishes I had in Europe. Fresh oysters were excellent. The set lunch is a bargain for such a great meal, service and atmosphere.
We went for mussels, but there were none on the menu, so instead we had prawn curry - I just wish there had been a bit more of it! Nice enough food but pricey, and the decor / vibe / service feels a bit antiquated.
Perfect dining experience here. We had a tea time set menu and it didn't disappoint. The staff were courteous and efficient. Meals were fresh and tasty as well as generous.
Pricing was worth it and the restaurant itself is lovely. Classy and well appointed. Highly recommended.

Beautiful setting for beautiful food. Most of their seafood is caught locally so it is beautiful and fresh. We had oysters and the garlic buttered lobster which were fantastic. The oysters were especially spectacular. Finished the night with the crumble of the day which was spiced apple.

A faultless dining experience!
We went on the off chance on a Friday evening, advised we had a waiting time of 45 minutes - so we sat and had a drink in the chilled bar area. 25 minutes later we had a table!
Staff were friendly, knowledgeable and on the ball.

Lovely location, great food, fixed price lunch menu fantastic value as always, lovely room and great staff. Should be packed to the rafters. Tried oysters for the first time which we both loved. Fish soup as good as we had in Nice over 30 years ago.

Great! The fish is always fresh, the service is always great, and the restaurant ambiance is lovely. We love the Monday night 2 for 1 dinner, such a great deal! The prices are average for York, but they have many different options for getting a great deal. You only need to check their website. And you get a 25% off coupon for the next meal when you leave!
