Another wonderful meal at the Lion House. I had the Salmon this time. Delicious. Everyone is friendly. It was extremely busy due to the lights around the Salt Lake Temple but we got through and had a wonderful meal.

Absolutely pathetic over priced cafeteria food. I still feel sick that I honestly paid $10 for a basic green salad with 2 slivers of egg and a few strips of ham. The rest of the food is so skimpy. It is such a total racket and I have no idea how people don't blink an eye for paying for mediocre mass produced food with a cramped environment.
If there were ever a place when someone is visiting Utah and says Hey where can I get some Utah food? This is the place!! Chicken pot pie is amazing same with the Roast which melts in your mouth! Also grab a giant cinnamon roll you won t regret it.
I don t know what s happened to this place but it s gone so downhill the last few years. I literally have never left a bad review for a food place downtown before but this place the last three times I ve gone our entire group has gotten food poisoning and the food isn t as good as it was in the 90 s and early 2000 s. What the hell Lion House?
This place is so beautiful. I love the food and the fact that its right next to Temple Square. Makes me feel really good to dine at such a wonderful place
We had salad, chicken, and mashed potatoes with asparagus. The rolls are fresh-baked and come to the table warm. They are served with butter and honey-butter. All of the food was excellent but the rolls were the highlight. We had some kind of cake for dessert. I'm not sure what it was but it was tasty. No alcohol is served at Lion House. It's nice to have your own room for a private gathering.
Cafeteria style dining in the home of Utah territory s first governor. Famous for its rolls and pies. A noisy and relaxed atmosphere, great if you have kids!
Nice place, food is not too great. Still it is historic, and maybe most local food experience of Utah. Note every window of this house belong to a room of a separate wife of Briam Young, famous Mormon prophet.
We had my son's wedding luncheon here. I got the time messed up and we were 1/2 hour late. They didn't charge me extra for going a little over our time because of the late start. They accommodated us at every turn. Extremely helpful staff and very friendly. The food was so good! We had the Smith chicken. Highly recommend. They totally accommodated someone in our group with food allergies. And they asked if anyone was a vegitairian or vegan. They give you tickets for free parking at the Joseph Smith building. It was the best part of the day after the Temple. I would highly recommend them and hope to be back again.
The food is average at best. It s cafeteria style food that severely lacks on salt. I m inclined to give it ONE star, but it earns the other FOUR stars on the merit of the Lion House Rolls alone! In fact, 32.8lbs of my current weight gain can we directly attributed to Lion House Rolls. Life changer.
There's nothing like a home-cooked meal, and half of that experience is being in someone's home. The Lion House has been preserved with that homey feeling which makes eating there so pleasant. The food is simple, the menu is modest but deliciously tasty! The staff are attentive, friendly and keep the place clean.
Lion house is a historic place. It is located near tourist place and the parking garage, so walking to it is not that far. The food taste good. I think they change their menu often. The price was a little to high for college students and the place can get really noisy when it's packed.
The Lion House was the perfect place to host our immediate family wedding luncheon. We wanted something small but refined, and this place was just right. We had our luncheon in the Garden Room, which we highly recommend - the room was very beautiful. The food was phenomenal! Our guests still talk about how delicious the food was - and they were very accommodating to some slight variations we requested in our menu selection. Our event coordinator was incredible - she was very attentive and polite, and helped make our luncheon the best it could be. The only letdown was their music system was temporarily down, so we had to enjoy our luncheon without pleasant background music. The Lion House is an excellent choice for a wonderful wedding luncheon. NOTE: The entry for the Lion House Banquets/Events is through the front, the entry for the Pantry/Cafe is on the left.
We had our daughters reception at the Lion House June 2019. The facility is really expensive and you have to use their catering services. We were very disappointed. Here just a few reasons why: 1) lack of and difficulty with communication/coordination with our assigned wedding planner 2) seating capacity 3) extra charges for small things such as extra easels 4) lack of pre-reception set up time 5) food portions are really small and they don't allow you see or tasted the selections before finalizing your choices 6) The "sound system" for background music was a small portable boom box plugged into a cheap portable speaker. It was ridiculous. With all the events that take place, one would hope that at minimum pictures of the entree, dessert and side courses would be available to at least look at.
Lovely and historic, but pretty overpriced for the quality and amount of food. Go for the tour, but the only way it s worth the money is to go to the other free venues on temple square... which is everything else.
This is a fine place to get a satisfying meal. It is cafeteria style, and the offerings change from day to day. The employees are friendly, and they do a good job of moving people through the line seating can be an issue during the busiest times. Parking is available in garages around downtown. Egress is well thought out.
Lion house it's one of my favorite place in Utah to eat I love their salmon everything I eat at the line house it's delicious. Love the atmosphere it's very clean I love how they keep their plates hot they have sanitation towel to wipe things up. They keep hot food hot they keep cold food cold they keep things clean and organized I gave them five star I do appreciate the good work they do.
Historic place to visit for a nice freshly baked and coke food. A long queue from the out side but it move fast. Few simply selection for the main course. Side dishes were nice too. Lovely homey setting.
Great food, great selection, always a pleasure. Like at home with nuts. The ambience, the flair, the mood, all is well. And...... you always meet people who know someone you know. Amazing. And all for an affordable price
This lovely historic treasure is fun to tour. There are a lot of rules, though. You can't touch things and you are led by some sweet sister missionaries (who are actually quite knowledgeable). I love seeing the period antiques. And the price is right... $0. I return to tour it when I am in the area.
This is my go to place when I'm spending time in SLC, especially if I have guests from out of state. The atmosphere is comfortable and the food is amazing. Home cooked, delicious, and reasonably priced.
The rolls had been highly recommended. So we went. First time visit. It s a cafeteria style, you pick up items and put it on a tray. We picked up rolls with the thongs that were there and were yelled at by the cashier. The manager was of the same persuasion. Not recommended at all
Rolls are great. Food is precooked cafeteria style not always the freshest tasting but fast. Higher quality than cafeteria but not always the best. Prices are sit down prices. Service is sometimes really nice as in the cashier. But I have had some rude people here too.
Quaint landmark with an excellent kitchen. American home cooking at its best. Space for intimate meals and large-group dining. Casual dress, but you'll feel as if you should have dressed up. Self-bussing. Convenient tray return stations on each floor. Large groups can make arrangements for cleanup service. Lion House is a former residence which retains its elegance. You don't have to eat there to tour the building, but you should. You won't be sorry if you do. And neither will your bank account.
I love Lion House, but they closed the doors on us after the Christmas Concert when it said they would be open after the Christmas concert. There were probably 20 of us that went there because of the ad in the program.
This place is awesome! Fantastic food and such a fun atmosphere. The history of the Lion House and the unique interior design and feel of the different rooms is a really fun experience!
Incredible Honor being there . you can Feel the History but **service really needs to be better ***,price i felt just a bit on the high side for my taste. if you are lds this is a must. and check out the complete area.
Line was much too long, but that wasn't the main issue. Cafeteria style, but you don't know the prices of things until you get to the food and if you don't pay attention you will be paying for more than you actually wanted to. No one explains how it works, and the people working there just want to get you through the line as fast as possible. The food itself was fairly dry (I got the artichoke chicken) and really the only decent part of the meal was the roll. They were out of pot roast by the time we got in at around 6 after waiting in line for 45 minutes, so I guess that might be ok, but there is no way I will ever know. Overall just kind of a big disappointment, didn't expect to pay $30+ dollars for two adults only to serve myself. When I go out to eat, unless it's fast food (which provides better service honestly), I want an experience which Lion House doesn't provide in the sligtest. If your idea of a good meal is a prep school cafeteria you will love it. Would be a better idea to buy the frozen rolls and make dinner at home for a fraction of the cost in a more comfortable environment.
That salmon, served with mashed potatoes and asparagus was "disgusting" The salmon smelled like a fish market, it tasted horrible, it was clumsy! Now a have an upset stomach just by taking one bite! I'll be better off puking.
