I used to live in this neighborhood, years back. At the time, there was a crappy place called Regions and next to it, was a newly opened place called Renegade with a cool menu, but disappointing food and prices.
We pulled into the parking lot, hungry, thinking we'd just settle for Ling and Louie's Chinese. Anyway, we saw the sign for Black & Bleu and thought we'd give it a shot. Now, I'm not going to lie, food tastes good when you're hungry, but damn ... the app crab-cakes were off the hook (no pun intended) and we had these tenderloin bites that were so tender, I almost doubled down on both. Nevertheless, I was patient, and destroyed my baby rack ribs ... fall of the bone tender and flavorful. My wife, who's not a big eater, actually did some damage post-crab cake, and took down her grilled salmon and asparagus with some spirited aggression.
And let me just say, if something isn't right, she won't eat it. Kudos to the kitchen for preparing everything to perfection, and to management/ownership on the smart decor. Great spot.
The biggest takeaway was this ... I can't even think of another neighborhood grill of this quality that even comes close to this price point. I mean, it wasn't free, but it was fantastic and I didn't leave feeling like I got "Mastrosed" or "Flemming'd." In other words, I paid "Keg" prices for Don and Charlie's-grade fare.
Maybe think of it as a privately-owned Houston's/Bandera's ... seriously good, affordable, and yeah, we're going back.
Oh, the service. On point, friendly, unobtrusive ... and our waiter certainly was helpful by making some stellar suggestion. If you're just in the mood for a snack ... sit down at their gorgeous bar, grab a cocktail and don't hesitate on the crab cakes or tenderloin bites.
Enjoy.
