The collections at this library are extrodinary. It's not a large library but what it was well worth driving out of my way to see. They had a puzzle display that included ones available to try to solve which kept my 13 year old busy while I explored. The young woman working the desk was very helpful, pointing out things I might like other than just the Gutenburg Bible, which is what I'd come to see. It was a wonderful experience.

The Rare Books collection is generally only available to students and faculty at IU but the Lily Library offers thematic displays several times a year, generally two at once. Note that you'll need to check on their hours of operation but it is not the same as the other two nearby museums on campus. I've found the staff to be very helpful whenever I've gone to do research or to see a particular display.

An absolutely amazing experience. Oscars, The Emancipation Proclamation, the Declaration of Independence, the Peter Pan original manuscript, autographs from every single US president, and millions more. A true gem.

A little gem at IU! They house a lot of really awesome, rare items. If you want to look at any books, you will have to wear white gloves (which they provide) and even put the book on this little book holder thing so the spine isn't damaged by opening it too far.... and you cannot check any materials out, though you are welcome to look at them there in the library.

My primary experience with the Lilly Library has been through access to its archives of the original Ian Fleming manuscripts covering most of the original James Bond stories, and related materials. The organization of these and the way in which the institution makes them available to patrons is exceptional, dealing with staff always a pleasure. Highly recommended!

About Lilly Library

Lilly Library: Your Ultimate Destination for Research Help, Resources, and Information

Are you a student or researcher looking for reliable resources to support your academic pursuits? Look no further than Lilly Library! As part of the Indiana University Bloomington Libraries system, we offer a wealth of information and research assistance to help you achieve your goals.

Our library is named after Eli Lilly, an Indiana native who founded the pharmaceutical company bearing his name. The library was established in 1960 and has since become one of the premier research libraries in the United States. Our collections include rare books, manuscripts, maps, photographs, and other materials that span centuries of human history.

At Lilly Library, we are committed to providing our patrons with exceptional service. Our staff includes experienced librarians who are available to assist with research questions and provide guidance on using our resources effectively. We also offer workshops and training sessions on topics such as citation management software and database searching techniques.

One of our primary goals is to make our collections accessible to as many people as possible. To this end, we have digitized many items from our collections so that they can be accessed online from anywhere in the world. We also offer interlibrary loan services so that patrons can request materials from other libraries if they are not available at Lilly Library.

In addition to our traditional library services, we also host exhibitions throughout the year that showcase items from our collections. These exhibitions cover a wide range of topics including literature, art history, science fiction/fantasy literature etc., providing visitors with an opportunity to engage with rare materials in person.
