While working on a renowned oil and gas facility , I get to know Dissipation Array System (DAS) provided by LEC. The idea of eliminating the possibility of lightning is undoubtedly plays upper hand while comparing with any kind of lightning arrester. One surely does not wants to arrest something which can not be controlled.
The Dissipation Array is done by Spline Ball Ionizer (SBI), Spline Ball Terminal (SBT), Paragon Array (company given names for the specific products) and many types of system depends on the area that it is suppose to protect. All of them are manufactured with Stainless Steel; installation is subtle enough that needs no repair, re-installation or almost never caused any unwanted situation in heavy storms,
surely I am not writing this based on one or two years of experience, those equipment has been installed here almost ten years back.
The grounding system provided with DAS, works better than any other grounding system, "minimum effort is required to get the lowest possible grounding resistance" surprisingly only with eight or six feet ground rod. I guess size matters - does not apply here.
However, the Dissipation Array System is controversial amongst many. To me the main reason behind this is, it is hard to find a good ready-made "google answer" of the system-unless you are studying the system and have basic knowledge of physics, Every phenomenon that this system uses - contains a simple physics behind it; whether I am speaking of six or eight feet ground rod or the really pointy/sharp edges of the DAS system.
With all the physics it does gives an extra edge of beautification with the installation.
Well it is said that " Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication" - I feel like its true understanding the system. The company claims that they haven't heard a single complain over 30 years of their business from their client, whether they are using their DAS system or they are using their Surge Suppressor. Hard to accept something like that, but however it is true for me for more than ten years.
