A small independent cinema, run by excellent volunteers. A very good selection of films are shown not just the blockbusters. It has a nice ambiance and has a selection of different seats, some are traditional cinema style others are more like a nice waiting area. All are comfortable. It has a nice bar with a good selection of beers and alcoholic drinks as well as soft drinks and hot drinks and snacks. The volunteer staff are all very nice and welcoming. It's well worth joining and visiting on a regular basis.

Great!

Great!
Agree with all the glowing reviews above. Very friendly and relaxed, close to Kensal Rise oground along a quiet street and profits go to charity.
A reason to go to the cinema more.

What a discovery! The Lexi is genuinely a lovely place to watch a film. Hard to describe: it's like a club - small, intimate, friendly and yet a proper cinema, too. Oh, and a little bar serving a choice of wines. You can tell a lot of care has gone/goes into it. I don't want to shout its praises too loud as it might get swamped! Easy to reach on either the Bakerloo or North London lines, too.

This is a current favourite Odeon...
Not being right in the centre of things it is comfortably distant from the ever demanding West End.
The seating is great...opt for the recliner, well worth the extra buck.
Sales staff fab and cinefiles. Rare nowadays. Better here than on Panton Street.

A small but worthy cinema. Mostly run by volunteers, 100% of the profits go to a sustainablility charity in South Africa. Tickets are cheaper than the average multiplex but knowing that your money goes towards building better lives is a enough of a reason to come back weekly. The staff are great and they have a great bar too.

Finally went to this cinema which has a lovely community feel. Only 75 seats. Not all comfortable! They show current movies and telecasts of Opera and The National Theatre. Become a member and save money. All proceeds go to charity.

The screen and the sound were perfectly fine here,...

The screen and the sound were perfectly fine here, and the decor was nice, as was the charming bar. There's much to like about the space, and the front desk was friendly.
However, for me, the seats are woefully unergonomic: they're a few inches too tall, so your legs feel pressure behind the knee, and there's next to no back/lumber support - this is for the standard-style cinema chairs that make up about 60% of the seats at the Lexi. The other chairs are basic lounge/bar chairs. Sitting behind these rows isn't ideal because the occupants sit-up very vertically, which makes them hard to see over/around (I'm an average height of 5'10", just in case people think I'm a dwarf!).
The most off putting thing about this cinema is the other attendees - it was very busy, and the atmosphere was rather passisive-aggressive, with people being quite unpleasant when asking for seats. We watched one woman sternly fending off others in her attempt to reserve a seat for her friend, and causing a lot of consternation in the process.
I know profit's from this cinema go to charity, which is commendable, but perhaps as a consequence the audience has a rather moralistic attitude. Maybe I was expecting people to be friendly, but that was definitely not the case with the other cinema-goers. Gulp...you don't see this behaviour in your average Odeon!
I've no doubt that maybe if I were seeing a less of an arthouse film, the audience wouldn't have been so pretentious and rude and I would have given a better review here. But alas, it is an arthouse cinema, and I can only imagine the audiences are often a bit arsy

The Lexi is a gem of a place to watch movies. Unfortunately the last movie I saw there was a bit of a stinker (imo), but the venue itself is fantastic. Certainly one to check out and infinately better than your local multiplex.

Not for profit cinema. The people working there are doing it for free. Great atmosphere, nice, homy venue. All sorts of movies but the high brow ones are normal events. If you can, don't spend your money on massive entertainment multinational... Go to Lexi

Nice local small cinema that gives all profit to charity. Run by volunteers that invariably means they're nice! 2 tier cinema. No allocated seating so get there early if it's full. Popcorn at the front desk. Bar at the back. Big individual seats. Candlelit tables at the front. Screen is quite high if you're in the first couple of rows.

The Lexi Cinema truly is the archetypal great litt...

The Lexi Cinema truly is the archetypal great little place. Along Chamberlayne Road, past the gothic splendour of the Catholic Church of the Transfiguration, is Kensal Rise s Constitutional Club. Its old hall has taken on a remarkable new life. Inside is a gorgeous little cinema. With seats for 40 or so, it s hugely intimate and cosy, but with a sound system installed by the same chap who does U2 s tours and crisp digital projection, it s serious about the experience. Dangling from the ceiling is a mesmerising lighting installation by Bruce Munro, fading gently from one hue to another. It s a proper community here half the audience either know each other or know the Lexi staff, and there s a true feel of locals. Everyone chats before the film. The seats are comfy, with candlelit tables at the front, and each film is personally introduced, harking back to an era where you didn t just go and see a movie, you went out to the cinema. There are often Q&As with directors or added bits of theatre here and there; they even do a night where the New York Met Opera is beamed live to the assembled, black-tied, admirers.

What really sets the Lexi apart is its mission. All the profits, from tickets to drinks to popcorn, go to a South African charity called The Sustainability Institute which means they re probably the only cinema in London which actively encourages you to drink wine whilst watching a film. We ll take that. We won t say more, just go.

Amazing independent cinema with a fantastic event space for hire in Kensal Rise west London, so lucky its my local cinema, but worth the trip wherever you live in London. A great range of films and special events. Also the only social enterprise cinema in the UK!
