It's a good store, I went to get my headphone jack...

It's a good store, I went to get my headphone jack repaired, in a week the job was done. After a few weeks, the headphones started to malfunction, there were little noises that appeared from the gere chhh, when I listened to my music.
Now, there is one of the two earphones that works every other time, it depends on how I plug my jack. I have to turn it to get a good sound.

I came across the Layton site while looking for a more local store, after having had bad experiences in the past with the big chains that sell electronics. I found the model of headphones I wanted, I was very eager to receive them, but the day after the order, the store wrote to me saying that unfortunately there was no more inventory for this model there. Being on a tight budget in the middle of a pandemic, I was disappointed not to be able to have THE pair that I wanted and that fit my budget, but Sheldon offered me impeccable and proactive service, and flawless follow-ups to negotiate a other option. I received them two days later, and I love them. I plan to eventually buy a sound system for the home, and I will not go anywhere other than Layton even if there are bound to be other audio stores near me. No complaints.

Because Layton Audio didn t have and could no longer get the Paradigm speakers that I had ordered and paid for they quickly refunded my money and to make it right offered a great deal on the newer model. I wasn t sure it was a great deal but I wanted the speaks so I ordered them. They arrived quickly and cost me 40% less than in our best local audio store. Thanks guys.

If you are looking for a device to play and listen to music this is where you have to go. They have a wide choice of models, rather upmarket, unfortunately also in prices.
The service is ok, but can be better depending on the seller.
The seller who took care of me did not really want to buy. On the other hand his colleague who looked after another client was really more dynamic, smiling, available.
It's definitely worth choosing a seller for this type of purchase.

The employees are really there for you and advise you (not on the most expensive model) they listen to your needs. It's worth the trip and forget about online shopping. You can test here before you buy and you don't feel like a pressure sell.

I had what must have been the worst retail experie...

I had what must have been the worst retail experience ever with Layton Audio. I ordered a replacement wire for my Sennheiser headphones, as mine had worn wires near the jacks that fit into the phones. On the way home I noticed that the package had been opened, with the replacement damaged, so I can only assume I was given a returned pair by accident.

As soon as I got home I called the store and was told to bring them back for a new pair. I was working night shifts on the other side of town at the time, so told them it might be a week or so before I could show up. The day I showed up, the guy that sold them to me told me it was *impossible* that he gave me the damaged pair. I tried to reason with him, but his condescending attitude and accusations persisted to the point where a yelling match ensued as he retreated to the back office.

Who must have been the owner finally came out, and they refunded me, as they didn't have a replacement pair in stock.

I left the store with suspicious eyes on me, and no apology. It was a demeaning and undeserved experience.

I was here a few months ago, and when I entered the store, I was afraid I might be asked to leave for spending so much time without buying anything. Instead, the owner took me aside and so willingly shared his love for headphones and music. He allowed me to try on all kinds of headphones and even opened the locked case of very nice (expensive) headphones and let me try those as well. For someone who knew very little about headphones and hifi, he provided such a special experience. I regret not buying anything then, but I would give Layton Audio an 11/10!

I'm so glad I stopped here instead of purchasing headphones online. I had some of the best customer service in months. The man who helped me, possibly the owner, was extremely knowledgeable about his products and thought me so much about headphones. I spent about 30-40 minutes there trying on different headphones and listening to his recommendations. I found the perfect headphones, which I never came across online, because he suggested headphones depending on what I needed. I'm so happy with my purchase and I'll be returning next time I need another pair.
You reminded me why I love to shop in store rather than online. It was such an enjoyable shopping experience.

Lied on the replacabilty of a broken parts (cartridge needle), sold me another cartridge and tried to sell 10$ above the tag price. Told me the mistake was actually on the tag and I was lucky to get it this cheap. Turns out, was also a lie. The tag price was the same as price on their web site. All within 15 min. Impressive...

Never trust a seller...

Never trust a seller...
Bought some new bluetooth speakers since "this new model is really great !", and since it worked only a few weeks I returned then. and again. and again. Then warranty expired (because of who?) and "nothing they can do". Google "S3-BT" to see they never worked. So the seller did not sell others and didn't fix mine. So much time wasted and I never get scammed so I'm still mad at them.

More than ten times to this store, and still like it even though sometimes a couple of owner/salesmen are not as friendly as always. The Colombian young guy is knowledgeable and has helped me with technical information about headphones, earphones and DACs, etc. They were friendly (but very busy for last New Year's time) to replace my Shure SRH1540 headphones for the second time under warranty and a DragonFly DAC which got USB connection problem. Will recommend you guys to my friends. Just smile more! Cheers :-)

We went into this store looking for new speaker cable, and man in the store kindly took plenty of time with us, explaining to us the advantages and disadvantages, in a fairly neutral way, of the different types of wire. He also gave us tips on how to wire our apartment for sound, how to keep the cats away from the wire, and really tried to make sure he could help us.
Being students, we were looking for an inexpensive option, and when he knew this, he directed us to their cheapest option without any judgement and actually encouraged us to use this (despite the fact that this surely meant a lower profit for his business).
We left the store with a bill for about $23, taxes included, which probably amounted to a profit of about $10 for the store. He was kind and respectful the whole time, comfortably switched between French and English, and when we were done, shook our hands.

As music students, we may be low on cash now, but in a few years when we need a new sound system (easily $800-1000), I know the first place we'll be looking.

Staff gives off the vibe that you are bothering them. Customer Service was horrible! First and last time I walk in there! Came in for some repairs, but with their rude service and high price. I will bring my work somewhere else.

I was only in Layton Audio very briefly to replace a cable on my Sennheiser headphones, but the service was courteous and helpful and the store itself seemed nice. They had a good selection of mid-level to high-end headphone brands. Also noticed that they had turntable maintenance supplies, which was a neat find--I've noticed many places seem to sell turntables but none of the maintenance equipment.

Overall, nice little store, worth a visit if you're shopping for audio equipment or need an emergency replacement like I did.

I bought a pair of headphones for 80$, and took them with me travelling. The pair fell out the side of my bag when it was resting on the floor of the car. I put them back in the bag when I noticed--taking them out the next day, on of the cords and earphone was broken off.

I emailed Layton to see if I could return the pair--I've been using headphones as long as anyone and never had a problem like this. It really appears to me that the headphones were faulty to be so fragile. They said there was nothing they could do besides send them back to the manufacturer.

I find this unhelpful, especially the suggestion that they were damaged because "you dropped them".

Layton will not see any future business from me and I recommend against buying from them.

I came to this store for the first time to try and buy the pair of Audio-Technica ATH-M50X headphones in black color and I found that they sell it for $ 250. This is $ 50 more than the market price, whether sold online or in any other store. It is simply dishonest and I would not set foot there again.

My headphones jack recently busted on me after 3 years, I was really bummed because my headphones are unique and I didn't want to throw them away. I didn't know headphone repairs where possible. After a quick google search and email to Layton Audio, I left my headphones there to be repaired. So happy I found this place!! I was lucky enough to have them repaired in 24 hours. Before repair I was told my MIC wouldn't work anymore, which was okay with me since I barley used it. My headphones are working again! And I am one very happy customer! Big thanks to everyone at Layton, very friendly staff !

This is the best place to get expert advice on sound systems and anything to do with Hi-fi audio. The manager, Jacques is honest and very knowledgeable about audio. The staff is friendly and professional. I have been a customer here since 2006, and have purchased two sets of speakers, two amplifiers, high-end headphones and earphones, cables, blu-ray/DVD players... And all of them are reliable and give high quality sound /video.

They have an excellent selection of medium and high end hi-fi speakers and amplifiers, as well as CD-players, blu-ray players and portable mini systems. The headphones and earphones selection is equally impressive and high-quality.

If you want to buy anything audio without paying for those over-priced "niche" products costings thousands dollars, but still get excellent quality, this should be your ONLY STOP!

The sales associates know their stuff more than any other major electronic store, if you're looking for high end audio equipment sold by people who know what they are talking about, Layton Audio is the place to go! After being shown a ton of models, I went with the Senheiser PXC 550 and they are amazing!

It was a while since I heard about this audio system store, I finally went there two weeks ago to buy a portable music player for my wife (the Fiio X3 ii).

The store is very small, but it contains some technological jewels! Being a great lover of technology, I immediately felt in my element! Earphones, headphones, bluetooth speakers, etc. you will find everything an audiophile (or a music lover) can dream about.

Everything that is sold in stores is not presented on a counter, so I recommend 1 / call the store to check that they have the device you are looking for 2 / speak immediately to a seller when you arrive on the spot.
More so, Layton Audio having a website, it is possible to have an idea of what they have in stock.

What I particularly appreciated:
+ the fact that all major brands specialized in sound are represented, including those little known to the general public, Fiio, for example.
+ the connoisseur staff to support.
+ the sale of devices available nowhere else in Montreal (or in Quebec). I take for example the Fiio X3 ii which was only available for 1-2 weeks in Canada and that I could already find in store!
+ the opportunity to try a number of products. This was not the case for the audio player that I bought, but some people were trying 2-3 bluetooth speakers.

When it comes to pricing, Layton Audio is not the cheapest supplier, but for products available nowhere else, it's a must. Some older products are sold at a higher price than at NCIX or Amazon.ca. However, the audio store regularly offers interesting promotions. Note that I noticed a slight difference between the prices given online and those in store ... I do not know what is the policy of Layton Audio in this regard and if it is generalized.

In short, I recommend this supplier of audio equipment, headphones and speakers, especially to find devices that are relatively difficult to obtain in Quebec.

I've been here several times to buy earbuds over the past 4 years, and the products they stock are top notch at very competitive prices. I was looking at a particular pair online, came into the shop to try them out, and the price in store was identical to the price on Amazon. The manager is very passionate about audio, and knowledgeable about a wide array of products. He suggested a brand that I would likely not have found on my own, and these ended up being what I purchased. Shortly after walking out of the store and putting on some music, I discovered a problem with the pair I was sold. I returned and he replaced them, no questions asked.

I'm very satisfied with the experience, and would suggest to anyone who has the option to go to a local brick-and-mortar audio specialty store like this as opposed to ordering online. You can try out the products on the spot, so you know exactly what you're getting. The sound you are looking for is a personal preference, and reading hundreds of online reviews will never replace actually listening to a pair of earbuds before buying them.

Excellent store, highly recommended.

I admit that it took me several months of observation of my product and staff behavior to be able to put this note. Layton sells products of very good quality. The sales staff is very experienced and their advice allowed me to get a product that meets my needs. In addition Layton actively defends the interests of the customer from manufacturers, in case of concern.

BEWARE Layton Audio sold me fake powerbeats by dr. dre!!! They are an authorized dealer, and the salesperson seemed very legitimate when convincing me to buy it, even giving me a discount on them. But when I got home and checked real vs fake comparisons, these were definitely FAKE! These guys are con men trying to snatch money right out of your pockets!! Never going back.

This place is amazing!!!! I bought a pair of AKG NC headphones from them in April of 2015 while we were vacationing in Montreal. They had just broke so I contacted Harman Support and I need a receipt of the proof of purchase, which I no longer had. I contacted the store by tracking them down from my credit card statement and Daniel, I assume an employee at the store, asked me the date of purchase and I told him. He said to give him 5 min and he found it and sent it to me via email in about 5 min!!! This is service that you don't see anymore and I hope Daniel knows that I really appreciate what he did for me!!

Rude staff of supposed audiophiles who's knowledge of audio both portable and home audio and visual equipment is woefully out of date. The selection is also limited and overpriced. Older sales guy didn't believe me when I told them something and when I offered to demonstrate and prove the guy wrong he walked off in a huff. Obvious figuring because he had been in the business for a while he must know everything. I used to have respect for these guys, but no longer.

I went there yesterday to get advice on buying speakers. I then met Jacques and described to him what I had and what I wanted to replace. He then asked me a few questions about the listening room; I then showed him a picture of my current system. He then started a very convincing demonstration of a few pairs of speakers but we hadn't discussed pricing yet. It was a very positive shock. The price was significantly below budget. These speakers have been installed in my home for 24 hours now and even if they are in the break-in period, I am extremely satisfied with my purchase. A big thank you to Jacques for his professionalism and kindness. Layton Audio has been around for several decades and in my opinion remains one of the best audiophile references in Montreal.

A friend referred (rightly) to Jean-Jacques at Layton. He took the time to advise me with kindness and professionalism. The price of purchased headphones was very competitive with those found online. It is more and more rare to meet this kind of exceptional service which remains the advantage of the shops keeping a storefront on that of e-purchasing more anonymous.

Realized at home that one of the audio cables was defective and they refused to exchange the cable when i went back to the store or give me a replacement, stating that i had to purchase the 20$ cable from them. How a store could sell a defective product and then ask client to purchase another one is beyond my comprehension.

I wasn't expecting anything and got it all! We were looking for a wireless headset and the very knowledgeable and totally passionate gentlemen guided us very well. In giving our needs he decided to show us a pair of headphones below our budget and before showing us better quality products asked us to try because according to him it was exactly what we needed. He fell right on it. Even after listening to and testing more expensive products the benefits of the more affordable were not realized. In other circumstances, he would have suggested another product.

Dropped by to demo their selection of headphones and see if any of them were worth upgrading from my current setup. They have a great selection on the wall that you can self-serve, and you could ask someone to open the cases if you wanted to test the high end gear. The staff member that helped me (sorry I didn't catch your name!) was very kind, helpful, and friendly. He was also very knowledgeable and I was pleasantly surprised by some headphones he recommended for my preferences. If I didn't live in Toronto I would have bought a pair of the Hifimans, since they do service them. I will definitely be coming back when I figure out which pair to buy.
