I am a African American born here Usa. Went out to eat last night. Heard that a little long wait time. Got in the door and felt like 1945 yr sitting at the lunch counter. After trying and flagging down waiter ( 20 min), ordered roasted chicken and lazauna with Xtra cheese ,white wine . Another 20min, finally food came. Waiter droped plates on table , chicken not cooked through, no extra cheese on laugna, and glass of wine not clean. Felt rushed to leave, couldn't sit and enjoy the experience of dinner. Will put a (black mark) on this place.

This is our favorite restaurant in Athens. It is a restaurant that has its act together. The food is consistently good, the service exceptional, good value for your money compared to others, and we love the atmosphere. It is our go to place.

Definitely not the most inexpensive place in town, but everything was delicious. The wait staff is friendly and helpful. The white chocolate cheesecake is to die for. You won't be disappointed.

A long time Athens stand by. It's been my go to favorite as long as I can remember. This where I take guests and the place I recommend to out of towners. I'm confident most will enjoy their menu selection. Consider leaving room for desert. Keep in mind that it's small and can fill up quickly. Lunch is a bit of a better deal than dinner.

Just had this place last night with a friend of mine. We had expected a long wait but were seated immediately when we got there at 6:30pm. Maybe that was because it was a Monday and not a lot of people were out and about. The waitstaff was More

Amazing food at reasonable prices for a high end restaurant in Athens. I've had both the hanger steak and the salmon fillet here. Either one is a good deal, and comes highly recommended for a downtown joint!

Atmosphere was pleasant. A lot of wonder-woman themed art that did not compliment the theme of the restaurant, however. Waitress was rude, didn t explain wines or dessert menu thoroughly. I felt rushed and as if we were a bother to her. The wine and cheesecake was well worth the price, but they could improve their overall posh attitude.

Absolutely loved it. The portion size is great. It's not as much as you'd want per se, but it's the amount your stomach should take in. I left feeling great and not bloated or anything that reminds me of when I over eat. I had the three cheese omelette with bacon and feta cheese. Potatoes were on the side and so was some assorted fruit. It was amazing. I'd go again. The menus is a little high but the food is great.

Food was excellent. We went there for our fancy dress up dinner with the whole family. We had heard about this place and read all the good reviews and we finally took the plunge. Needless to say it has totally lived up to all the hope. The service was first class eight from the start. We used the call ahead seating and as soon as we arrived we were escorted to our table. The waiter was promt and efficient.

When the food arrived I took one bite of my swordfish and knew it was 5 star. My compliments to the chef. Everything we ordered was excellent and I highly recommend this place.

The food is SO GOOD. Came for lunch and had the fried green tomato sandwich which was filling without feeling overly stuffed. Got a white chocolate cheesecake for dessert which was amazing (but warning that it was incredibly rich, so if you're not into super sweet desserts, I would go with something else or also order coffee to offset the sweetness)

A marvelous, special spot! The food was wonderful... starting with a light salad (unique dressing choices), salmon, pork chop, pastas, specials, etc. And, if you have room, there are cheese cakes and a variety of cakes for dessert. The atmosphere is cozy or romantic with hundreds of tiny lights over head. Our server was gracious and prompt. She seemed to stop by to check with us at just the right moment. This was my first visit and I'm sure it won't be my last. I can't think of anything I'd change.

Love the LRG any excuse to go there is a good one. No reservations, but during the week the wait is very short. Never had a bad meal here and can't remember a time where the service was poor either. Highly recommend.

I once loved this place but my last couple of visits have been unpleasant. Wait staff not friendly and totally indifferent. Lights so dim you can't read menu. Food not consistent in portions or presentation. The place seems to be getting too ostentatious. I need to find my new favorite place downtown.

Excellent food, the horseradish salmon was unbelievable and the price was reasonable for the great food and service. It was my wife and I's 20th anniversary and it was superb. We will definitely be back next time we are in town.

The best restaurant in Athens. Constantly changing menu, use local farmers and food providers. Pricey for dinner (but worth the expense!), but their lunch menu is very affordable. Save room for the cheesecake!

One of Athens' best local restaurants. Great food, awesome service, and cool atmosphere. The downside is just how popular it is, which means there's often a wait (they don't take reservations but they do let you call ahead). But, that's how good it is--totally worth the wait. There are vegetarian options too!! Desserts are also AMAZING.

This restaurant gets high ratings, so here s another! The atmosphere is good. The historical building is lovingly decorated with great, interesting artwork. The tables with white linens, are packed into the dining room & conversations aren t too private, but it s ok. You ll most likely run into someone you know. Today I had the New South Pork Roll, which is pulled pork, & mushrooms on a grilled flour tortilla. The sauce over this delicacy is spinach, cheese, & charred pablano pistou. The presentation was lovely, & it was a hearty portion for lunch. This entree just may be my new favorite over their crab cakes. The wait staff was prompt, professional & adequate. The restrooms were clean. Don t let this dining experience pass you by! Have enough quarters for the parking meter (25 cents gets you 15 minutes on the meter), and enjoy your time at an iconic Athens eatery!

My wife and I went there for our 3rd anniversary this past wednesday. When we walked in we didn't see the front desk (hidden in a hallway) so we just kinda waited around for a while awkwardly. A server nudged us to the destk where the host was really blunt and kind of rude, never once welcomed us, and when our table was ready he just pointed at it and said "there".

It was busy, so I understood our waitress saying that "she'll get to us shortly", but that ended up being a really really long time, and even then things were kind of blunt, cutlery forgotten, etc. Not horrible, but not good.

With all of that said, our food was really, really awesome. The Horseradish Salmon was amazing, and the soup of the day: fantastic. The food itself is some of the best that we've had in our year in Athens.

Not The Last Resort I remember and used to love..crab cakes were served cool, server was friendly but order was not delivered accurately, caper cream sauce has been replaced with an inferior dijon version, cake selection was less than expected..."all that shimmers in this world is sure to fade."

Last resort is a unique experience. If you're a fan of beer cheese soup and it's on the menu, get it. It's not as rich as some of the other places I've had it which worked well. I also had the pork rolls the addition of mushrooms was fantastic. The shrimp quesadilla I could've skipped. They were good but just not something I'd order again. It's a small establishment so keep that in mind if you're bringing a crowd. The desserts are superb so save some room.

Long wait time, I wasn't a big fan of the food but I didnt know what they served and wanted to try it. The salad and bread was good. I was thirsty from the long wait time and drinked a couple glasses of tea and after my third one he stopped filling it. Even after we got dessert. I was a little disappointed with that.

Last Resort has always been one of my favorite choices in Athens for a more "upscale" dining experience. However, last night was definitely an experience I'd like to forget as I came home to some awful food poisoning. I know things like this happen all the time but it unfortunately will have a negative effect on how I view the restaurant.

The desserts there are very, very good so maybe I'll just stick with it as a place to go after eating out somewhere else!

This is my absolute favorite place to eat in Athens... I m an alumni and even after graduating in 2011 and moving back it hasn t lost its touch. The praline chicken is to die for as is the salmon and grits but then again isn t everything on the menu? Also, you CANNOT leave without a piece of cheesecake AT the very least just take 1 to go AND for your salad you have to get the Vidalia Bacon dressing or else it s just a sin trust me you won t regret it

The host on Saturday afternoon was slow and rude enough to convince me not to come back. It was, of course a game day, but he was aloof, slow, unconcerned and unprofessional. It took 15 minutes to ask him to put out our name on the waiting list. It was like he was doing us a favor after ignoring us during an unnecessarily long wait. I've always enjoyed The Last Resort, but I won't patronize restaurants that treat me in this manner. It was a crowded environment with employees that didn't seem concerned or trained.
I went to dinner on the next block and had much better atmosphere and great food.

This restaurant offers an excellent ambiance, I loved the intimate and romantic vibe of this place. The dim lighting and jazz old school tunes playing in the background made for a great dining experience. I jumped out on a leap of faith and ordered something that I thought I had an understanding of, but actually had no idea lol I was shocked after I ordered the "New South Tostada" and I received my plate. Not at all how I conceptualized the description. I probably wouldn't have ordered it if I knew that's what I was going to ge , however, I'll say it was one of the most interesting plates I've ever experienced. It was pretty good...but wish I had a better understanding of the dish. At any rate, really enjoyed myself at this restaurant. Appreciated being able to try something ... A little different :)

This is my all time favorite restaurant. I love taking people here who have never been because it's nice to show them something a little different than the same ol same ol. My favorite entree for dinner is the Last Resort Chicken formerly known as Praline Chicken. For lunch I like the fried green tomatoes and the crab cakes. They have several "specials" everday too. Usually there is a ravioli special, a quiche special, & maybe a penne pasta special. I've tried several pasta specials & have never been dissapointed. Be sure to save room for dessert. The chocolate raspberry cheesecake never dissapoints. But as you can see they have something for everyone.

I had the horseradish crusted salmon with kale and what I thought were polenta cakes according to the menu. When it came out, the base was a sweet potatoe mash. Yes it was good and I ate it all, but if it comes with polenta cakes and you're out, tell the customer before making a subsitution, especially since sweet potatoes are not my favorite. I might have picked something else. The side salad was overdressed with dressing. The initial bartender (sat at bar) wasn't the most attentive when I needed a refill, or the salad/bread basket taken away. Took the coconut cake to go which I thought wasn't very good. Overall everything was ok, but to have this place listed as #1 place to eat in Athens, no way, I expected "more." Better food, better service, better decor and less 80s music blaring out of the kitchen. It was a good meal, but something I could make at home. No "wow" factor for being #1. I eat all over the country bc of my job, and this is average.

For main course, I had the Firecracker Filet! It was amazing. The market price for it was $45, which is high but worth it for the amazing taste and presentation. The green beans that came with it were also phenomenal! For desert, I had the Strawberry Cake. I had heard from others that the desert was the best part here, and i was not disappointed!

Literally the best meal I've ever had. Everything was perfection. Jalapeno honey mustard dressing was a treat. Churrasco was the best I've had. The real gem is the fillet with these crispy sauteed garlic chips. Wow. This place left us with the impression that Athens is a better stop than Atlanta!
