My favorite movie house in DC! I first came here to watch the Oscar Shorts screening, and have come back numerous times since because of the ambiance - quiet, low key, and less hectic than a standard movie theater. It can get just as busy with popular screenings, but usually for day time or week day screenings, the crowds are small. The concessions are a bit pricey so I usually eat beforehand, but they have a good selection nonetheless if you need something sweet, savory, or boozy.

Great movie theater in an unsuspecting part of Chinatown that has infinitely more charm than the Gallery Place theaters down the street. It has a rep for "artsy" movies but it shows first run flicks with a concession stand that sells a wide array of hot food items beyond hot dogs and nachos. Along with a decent wine selection and a full bar, E ST Cinema is the civilized, adult venue to see the first run movie.

Oh, this was a treat. I must go back. Comfortable seating, nice staff, and clean bathroom, I was there for a special viewing so the concession stands were not open but they looked stocked.

Honestly this may be my favorite movie theater in the DC area. I ve recently become a big film buff and E Street Cinema always has a great eclectic mix of movies showing. They also host a number of special screenings and special events throughout the year.

The theaters and bathrooms are always clean, the staff is nice, the theater is very metro accessible (10 minute walk from Chinatown), and they have a good selection of drinks and snacks. I d recommend trying one of the Italian Sodas, they are super good!

They don t always get the big blockbusters but for someone looking for more artsy movies this is the place to go!

This is a hidden gem in the area. From the outside it seems unassuming and maybe even a little shady. It's truly an almost elegant theater and a great place to catch arthouse, independent and limited release films. Parking can be a challenge for the latet showings because many of the parking garages close at 11. I recommend you plan accordingly.

Unique and independent movies, with some regularly scheduled cult favorites. Full bar and good concessions. Small theaters, so don't wait until the last minute to grab a seat, but always a great time!

Theaters are small and comfortable but they didn't turn the lights off until about 20 minutes into the movie, so I suspect that the staff isn't as attentive as they could be to their guest's experience

A great cinema! Wide selection of films including a consistent number of limited release/arty choices. Fantastic range of drinks including craft beer, sparkling wine. Clean and well run. Freshly popped corn. The seats are not as comfortable as some other DC area places - I could feel the metal springs through the well worn padding - but the screens and sound are fine. Overall a good experience. Will be coming back.

This is a quiet little movie theater tucked away on E st. The theater I was in had maybe 10 rows at most- which was fine considering the movie has been out for awhile. I was maybe in the third row and able to see the movie without straining my eyes or neck at all.

You can buy tickets from the window or at a kiosk. We were a little late but the movie wasn t sold out.

The snack bar has a great selection of snacks and they sell beer and wine.

It s an older, no frills theater but overall it was a great experience.

A small art house movie theater with tons of limited run movies from around the world. Also they do events of classics/b movies, such as The Room and Rocky Horror. Tickets for normal films are $12, $10 with student ID. Special event for limited run movies are $15 and have no student discount. No stadium seating, but the screens are large enough to make it not a huge issue. They also serve alcohol.

LOVE the concept and that it has a bar. The employees are wonderful as well. Would have given 5 stars but there is no Wi-Fi and because the way the theatre is made I had no phone signal the entire time I was there.

We love this theater! We've driven from Southern Maryland to this theater several times so far and plan to visit again soon. They have the usual concession stand foods (great popcorn to butter ratio, though) but better plus alcohol. Bonus is that the parking garage is right around the corner.

Have been coming here for the past two years. Theater is always very well maintained. The concessions really stand out here. There is regularly a specials menu for the cocktails in addition to beer/wine, and the food choices are a bit outside the realm of your typical AMC or Regal fare -- think crab cakes, chicken fingers, soft pretzels stuffed with either jalapeno cheddar or crabcake. The popcorn is tasty and they have different seasonings (garlic and parmesan; white cheddar; etc). Price is reasonable compared to AMC/regal. Will continue going.

There is a good reason this is always among the best theaters in DC. They always have the top indie films, as well as weekly special showings, this coupled with one of the best concessions stands and a bar make it the best place to see a movie.

My favorite movie theater, hands down, in the DC area. Very quiet, quaint, and relaxing. Great place to enjoy a film without a lot of noise and distractions. Concessions are also very fresh.

Also located in Washington DC ,this joint is a real good one. From the spacious parking to the good popcorn it is a movie-hollic s dream to be in such a theatre. The security in the place is also remarkable. But the only issue I had was the sound which was nothing but pathetic.

Clean, friendly staff. Concessions were affordable and you can even purchase alcoholic beverages.
One of the best places in town to catch international and independent films.
Parking is pretty annoying in that area so best bet is to Uber or catch the metro.

I love this place! It's location is easy to find and it's walkable to food and shopping for before or after the film. I love their drink selection! The theaters are outdated, but it's not the worst seats I've ever sat in. I love the movies they offer here, and I just enjoy supporting historic places like this. Tickets are cheaper than a traditional movie theaters also.

Landmark E Street Cinema is a really awesome movie theater that plays great indie films. I highly recommend going here to catch a lot of films that usually don't show at Regal/AMC/etc. You'll definitely discover a lot of hidden gems. Plus, the movie theater is compatible with MoviePass (and has e-ticketing with MoviePass). Love this theater!

This place feels like a real movie theater. Crummy old carpet, stale popcorn smell. Bonus that there is no cell service downstairs where the theatres are located so no one is tempted by their phones. Reasonably priced as well.

E cinema has a place to leave my bike or scooter. It has a nice reception area to meet friends. It's near a Cosi and a Starbucks and pizza etc. All easy walking distance. Also a really upscale linergerie shop. But non of this is important. You take the elevator or escalator to the lower floor where there is a bar and snacks. Get a coffee sit in a nice chair wait for friends to arrive. If you don't finish your drink take it with you. Theaters are intimate...small but nice. Lots of indie movies and popular movies. It's clean and in general a nice experience. Often an older customer although I've taken my children on occasion. Senior ticket prices if you ask. After cross the street and have a soup and fresh baked bread or go next door and get a personal pizza. It's a niche theater good for a date or late night Rocky Horror Show.
