Overall a nice place with lush landscaping, extensive water features and pools, including many medium sized pools adjacent to blocks of about 16 rooms, as well as private pools that are rented along with casitas. Great live music in the restaraunt, really talented performers on both of my prior visits. Ownership has changed twice in the last decade.

I don t think I ll come back until the new owners make a more serious commitment to sustainability. The lights in our room were all the old fashioned incandescent type, I saw a few LEDs in the restaraunt, but overall it felt like this place is going out of its way to waste electricity. I doubt it even makes good business sense to use those lights, it feels like someone is trying to make a statement. There was no evidence of solar electricity being generated, despite extensive undeveloped land owned by the hotel. Finally, none of the heated pools use solar heating, all gas heat. No recycle cans in the rooms. The use of water also seemed gratiuitois, lots of leaking irrigation, with water running down the street. The place used to be owned by a famous conservative newspaper publisher, but that was 10 years ago. The parking lot had a bunch of Priuses and electric cars (no charges for the later that I saw), I think they are out of touch with what many of their guests are looking for. The only commitment the environment I saw was the standard we will only wash your towels if you limit on the floor note . I don t want to reward a place like this with my business.

There we also other small frustration. We also found the service in the restaraunt unusually slow (30 min from ordering to getting our food). I called for room service, had trouble getting through, then was told someone would be over shortly, but it took 5 hours, and when they came they clearly wanted me to say they could leave without cleaning the room. Final gripe: the in-room coffee is very low quality, powdered creamer, etc. for $500 a night I think they could splurge on the coffee, right?
