If I could put zero stars it would already be too many because this place is not worth the trip at all
The reception is nonexistent and incomprehensible really they do not need money to believe the noise of the corridors their source of income is not due to the quality of their establishment but rather to the illicit substances which circulate there.
After long hours on the road being greeted as if we were not there was very frustrating
They totally degrade Moroccan hospitality by their welcome as well as the living conditions
Cleanliness is non-existent and I also noticed several bad reviews on food on other networks but often quickly deleted
Place to flee
Go more to the north or more to the south but especially not there in addition even in the village there is nothing to do nor to eat

I would give it 1001 stars, there was only 5 to give.

One of those places you just want to keep for you... Let's try it, so special and unusual! Still dreaming of it!

I highly recommend this ecolodge, very simple with a friendly staff and a relaxing atmosphere. You can enjoy some activities: surfing, yoga, walks ... They also have a terrace with a beautiful sea view where you can have your meals or even a drink.

Huge disappointment. The worst welcome ever lived in a guest house ... after 9 hours drive.

Great laid back vibe. Good way to disconnect without being attached to your phone. I love their efforts to be green.

Lovely place we could sleep in the form but they allowed us to put up the tent for one night. Food was sublime. They have solar heated water, recycle their waste water for the garden. Have yoga every day. Beautiful garden. Lovely atmosphere. Near the beach. Beautiful view from the place. Recommended

What an utterly amazing place! I can not recommend it enough. It s really an ideal destination for anyone looking to sit back on a comfy beanbag, enjoy sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean, mountains and nearby dunes and just relax. The one aspect of the place which will blow you away is the cuisine - a creative mixture of Moroccan tastes with a French touch, just amazing. The menu changes daily serving a couple of dishes to choose from with at least one vegetarian option. All delicious.

Superb place. A project that fits perfectly into an environmental approach and providing incomparable comfort. The home, the kitchen and the spot are just perfect for spending, staying, rejuvenating for a yoga retreat.

The location is nicely isolated, but easy to reach by shared taxis (~30Dhm from Essaouira). Because it is isolated, it's best to bring some food. However, they have a restaurant which serves tasty dishes. Often, in the evening everyone eats together. (50-70Dhm)

We stayed in the backpackers place, and this is the main crux of our stay. The tent is unclean and the matrasses lie on the bare ground. Fleas and other bugs are a common nuisance.

So, if you stay, keep away from the backpackers option, and you will have a nice stay.

Unobstructed views of the ocean and the small coastal village nearby.
The terrace is huge and the garden very colorful.
This place is a home for young travelers, they are housed fed in exchange for service and cooking.
You can be very pleasantly surprised at the quality of the meals.
CAUTION: Do not be in a hurry!
It takes about 1 hour for a tray of fries (sublimated and peeled after your order)

Amazing place with a unique vibe. I just spent a week in one of the beautiful bungalows. Everything is sustainable and the owner as well as the volunteer team care so much!! This lovely place should be a role model how in tune with locals and the environment a hotel business can be!!!
Apart from that they serve the most amazing moroccan food inspired by international haute cuisine with fresh ingredients and lots of love!!

Unfortunately the experience was quite disappointing contrary to our high expectations based on the website and the reviews we read. The eco concept they would like to associate themselves with is no where to be observed or experienced with trash lying around the hotel and building materials all around the tents. The staff is friendly but they seem to have their own agenda not putting too much care on the client's needs.

The only aspects that make the experience somewhat pleasant is the endless empty beach and the food that Mohammed prepares.

Overall, wouldn't recommend.

This is the 5th time I visit this place ... it's just a quiet corner with a breathtaking sea view ... I recommend 1000% for the atmosphere, the calm, the volunteers who work ... top

A nice location but everything they do to make it sustainable is just to keep the cost down and because certain things aren't available to the location, and they compost the human waste, store it and reuse on what? The food is European and not Moroccan. This whole area is known for horrible drainage from towns so be careful where you get you food and sea food. Everything green donkey offers is way over priced, even the help with getting you a cab ride 165DH the ride isn't even worth 80DH.

Unpleasant staff !! Not very clean ... we saw a lot better !!

this one-of-a-kind hostel is located in a nice hidden, cozy bay. the sea is in few minutes walking distance; the beach is perfect to surf. no rocks or any other surfers in sight. nearby is just a small town and no tourists anywhere near. to get there is a little bit tricky but the taxidrivers in Smimou know how to get there. the food served by the kitchen is a perfect blend of traditional moroccan cuisine and impressions from all over the world. the staff is super nice and speaks english, french, arabic and berber^^ prices are aboce average though, keep in mind. but this place is easily one of the nicest places i've been.

Honestly best beach experience ive ever had. Volunteer staff is rly nice its a rly cool community style accomodation. The only down side >> the water ddnt evacuate well in the shower and not clear how we shld dispose of washroom paper waste bc we cant flush. Wld strongly suggest to invest im solar panel to keep up the "green" side of it. Honestly have recommended to so many friends already this is a must go food is amazing and prices are god-sent. We stayed two nights, and would gladly go back and stay longer!

Even better than what you expect from looking at their website. The food was some of the best we have ever eaten. Cant wait to come back!

Luxury place to stay but poor mamagement and too expensive

The restaurant is amazing. I slept next to Tasgua Yan, but preferred to make the round trip for all meals. The welcome is the most smiling, volunteers always available and motivated to spin a hand.
I will return, that's for sure!

Perfect food and good yoga lesson, but unfortunately we had in our double room bed bugs and this is the only thing what we remind. Killed the holiday

Perfect place to chill and get away from tech & civilisation for 2-3 days!

Food was amazing - by far the best we had in Morocco (my partner says best he s ever had full stop!) They were always happy to adapt stuff on the menu to vegan.

We stayed in the aftas ocean room - beautiful views of the sea and countryside, cosy room, felt pretty luxury after staying in hostels. There is a flush toilet but I think a lot of the other rooms use communal compost toilet. Note: For this room you have to climb wooden ladder like stairs which is very common in Morocco but bear in mind if you have mobility issues.

All the volunteers were a++ and the full time staff friendly and helpful.

Activities include surf, some cool dunes to explore and hiking to a nearby canyon. If you don t surf or have a project to work on in a peaceful setting , I think a couple days is plenty.

To improve?
- maybe adding one or two permanent vegan options would be great if you have the demand.
- it would be cool if there were a couple more activities on offer- maybe some sort of workshop on sustainable building methods, or weaving etc - something in line with the ethos of L Ane vert

IMPORTANT: for your comfort, ask for accommodation in the main building or on the AMAZiR side because the ecological lodge is very uncomfortable if you have certain prerequisites.

Arriving is a little complicated but the site is worth it. Good atmosphere and beautiful views. To go to the beach you have to walk a lot. Good place to meet people and relax.

L'ane Vert is a wonderful group of people doing things for more than just earning a living or even for the majestic lifestyle. They have gone out of their way to make their business environmentally friendly and conscious and they attract that kind too. The food was delicious and the beach was perfect! My catchphrase became "it was a dream". Top tip: the language around L'ane Vert is like arabic but many words are different, so french was more helpful here.

L/Ane Vert is situated in one of the most naturally beautiful spots Ive visited. HOWEVER its completely missing the mark and taking advantage of the environment. When I arrived the setting took my breath away, but so did the human welcome for very different reasons. Cold, unfriendly, rude, unapproachable and defensive. It felt terrible to arrive. I left 10 days earlier then planned. It was a hard decision because of the surroundings and the food was delicious. I left because there was zero respect to the guests. Be warned you are essentially entering an all night party atmosphere and you can't escape. You have no choice but to be in it or feel miserable out of it. I stayed 3 nights and every night the music and bass kept me awake until 2/3am and on the last night 6.30am. To miss out on the sounds of the the ocean at night is a tragedy. You can get party music anywhere. Ive been to enough places that are getting it right to know when I'm in place that isnt. Its actually quite embarrassing, its disappointing and its BORING. Anyone can build an eco lodge physically, but it takes a special place to create somewhere that LIVES ecologically. I spoke to locals who told me they have had to call the police to ask for the music to be turned down regularly. The reputation of L'Ane Vert is very bad indeed. L'Ane Vert needs to remember that they are visitors to this incredible land and respect that. They need to hold themselves to account on the eco labels the put themselves under.

Top Notch Eco Lodge. It is strategically situated away from the madness and overcrowded towns of Morocco - because of this you will experience: uninterrupted 180degree views of the 5km beach, dreamlike sunsets, fun surfing (inc lessons and board hire) at the local point break, unbelievable hospitality from Louise the number 1 volunteer at reception, fantastic homemade drinks at the bar, see camels and donkeys, an insight into the local Berber culture and language, and finally you will taste (hands down) the best food we found in Morocco, thanks to Karla the head chef. Unfortunately there is no alcohol for sale but you can bring your own. The lodge is forever developing its eco-structure, currently it has 100% solar power, compost, triple filtered water + more. Don t worry there are hot showers and hot coffee!

Very rich food with informal atmosphere and good location

Amazing stay. If you are looking to clear your mind and enjoy a beautiful deserted beach this is where you have to go.
The rooms don't close though, but I imagine that's the spirit of the hostel.
I will definitely be back.

After 2 stays of one week each time, I can only recommend this ecolodge ..... without forgetting of course the exceptional cuisine of chef Kara who will amaze and amaze your taste buds.

As a lover of nature and hostels, I chose l'Ane Vert for a weekend with friends. Having heard lots about it, I was quite eager to experience the place myself. However, after settling into the dorm room I'd been allotted, I was horrified to discover that the mattress and walls of the rooms were infested with bedbugs, and that itchy bites had appeared on my skin. The check-in team having taken very little precautions, I was left in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night with no other choice but to wait outside until the next morning for one of the staff members to wake up (which took about 9 hours during which I couldn't catch a wink of sleep). The outdoor areas, with hammocks and broken benches, are also infested with bedbugs. To sum up, a gorgeous place, but a very bitter experience for me. The rates are very reasonable, but had I known that I would spend a night standing and that the bug treatments would cost hundreds of times the price of the stay at l'Ane Vert, I simply would've stayed somewhere safer. I sincerely hope they will work on getting everything under control.

It was totally worth staying at the Green Donkey. A pity to only have one night to stay there. The truth is that everything is perfectly cared for in detail and we liked the responsible philosophy behind it.
Highly recommended to watch the sunset from the bar. They serve alcohol at European prices.
The only downside? We stayed in a berber tent and since it was open we were bothered by mosquitoes at night. Bring repellent if you are going to the store!

Beautiful location, eco-lodge with an eco-sustainable philosophy. Managed by European children, attended mainly by young people from all over Europe. Beautiful. Excellent cuisine. European organization. In our tent the mattress could be cleaner. Overall very good.

Gorgeous setting, fabulous views, wonderful attentive staff....truly gourmet food. We had an upstairs penthouse room....sooo romantic. We wanted to extend our but this idyllic lodge is just too popular!

Pros : Good views, nice experience to spend the night in the nature, 5 mins on foot to the beach (which is really amazing), nice ambiance and music during the night, Yoga classes, Surf classes.
Cons : Dry toilet which leaves a really bad odour in the room. Dozens of flies bothering you. The noise of the frogs during the night. It's so difficult to sleep early because of the louf music in the terrasse. We saw the concierge treating a dog very bad to make him get out from the property. No alcohol served. Really few choices of the dishes for dining and lunch.

Enchanted place on the coasts of Morocco! Beautiful beach and excellent spot for surfers

A wonderful place of great hospitality, beautiful surroundings and sweet surfing, all surpassed only by the excellent quality of the meals the staff prepares for you. Highly recommend if you want to flee the warm and busy cities and discover a tranquil, honest, sustainable, low-key hideout.

(Also, for some reason there are lots of really cute animals around. Camels, donkeys, kittens, puppies, you name it. I'm not kidding, this place is like Cute Town.)

Don t even know where to start.. The food and surfing are amazing, there are amazing people from all over the world, I rode horses, camels, and donkeys through the dunes and valleys, the rooms and environmental effort are so cool..etc..etc...etc....

Unworthy accommodation. We had reserved "luxury" tents.
No reception. Establishment under construction and dangerous. To flee

Anyone who describes this place as the most beautiful in the world has not seen much. The hostel is very lonely and you have a great view over the bay. There are some rooms with shower / toilet and a Packpacker campground (about 8 Bedouin tents or mud huts). There is also a bar and food is offered. The backpacker tents cost 30 and the rooms are between 35 and 55 the night. Attention: No Wifi.
