Been here lots over the years and always enjoy it. The veg cassolet is among my favorites along with the pork rillete. Drinks menu always has something interesting to try. Last night's visit was made more amazing by Ash - mixed me a better version of a cocktail I had in Asheville recently just from a picture of the menu description. Food plus service plus cozy atmosphere (but not cramped) and parking ($3) right outside the door makes this a great place for me.
I have been to L'Albatros many times over the years and have had some good meals and some questionable ones. An uneven experience. On my most recent visit, I tried their Arugula Caesar salad, and it was a major fail. The flavors that make a Caesar taste good are a mix of Parmesan cheese and salty anchovies, mingled with oil and a mild vinegar. Their version uses fresh anchovies, which are just two lumps of meat that are discovered in the salad and do not blend into the flavor of the dressing. The Parmigiano Reggiano was shaved into large flakes, so it also didn't blend into the dressing to provide flavor. To replace the saltiness of the anchovies, there were a number (too many) of whole and halved olives, which were just concentrated salty flavor pellets, also unblended into the dressing. The dressing itself was very lemony, and that was the flavor that dominated the dressing, with no other flavors intermingled. As arugula is a bitter green, the lemony dressing and bitter arugula was unpleasant. The other flavors were insufficient to offset this. Deconstructing a dish and showing its elements individually doesn't always work; not every Picasso is a masterpiece either.
Great food and even better service. Everyone working there seemed to genuinely enjoy being there and providing top notch service. Could not have asked for a better experience. The variety of foods and prices allows just about anyone to enjoy a meal there. They've got top shelf stuff and stuff for the rest of us, and it all seems to taste good.
One of my favorite places to eat in Cleveland. I love the restaurant decor, the cheese cart has numerous options and the food is superb. Great pick for a special dinner.
The food is great .. but I m giving 1 star for their bad ridiculous customer service. On a dinner table of group of high professionals , a Mercedes keys (value of 400$) , was on a table ..seen by all people on the table . All of sudden the keys Vanished .. I tried to find it , looking around .. nothing there . I went to the reception , they were like ok , leave your phone and call u later ..,very careless response. Then I called their manager to make sure that keys disappeared in his restaurant , again his response was ok .. then I burst that is not OK , when something get lost on a dinner table .. I didn t feel they know what customer service means or they were defensive instead of being responsible and trying to find out what happened . They never called again ..or showed any kind of follow up on the keys . Bad on their side . Never again ..where are the keys .
Consistently fantastic food. Menu typically stays the same, but there are so many good options, I have a very difficult time deciding. Great drink and wine list. Best cheese board in the city, hands down. Knowledgeable and accommodating staff. One of our top two favorite restaurants in the entire area.
Our group of 6 spent several hours at this French restaurant. The food was all wonderful, and the service was excellent. It seemed that each restaurant employee checked on us periodically. Our wait staff knew the menu perfectly and could describe flavors and make recommendations. The decor is European Modern and the food is the star f the show. Prices were reasonable for this high quality of food and service.
Meat came out almost raw when medium was ordered. One of our party had their tip increased to $50.00 for a 30 dollar meal. Waited 30 minutes just for drinks and almost 2 hours for our food to arrive.
The food was very good but for the price it's a college student's worse nightmare. Overall experience was good and I will certainly go back for special occasions.
Amazing food! Extremely authentic french traditional dishes and a wonderful atmosphere. Service was excellent and the prices were quite reasonable for the incredible quality of the food. You have to try the cheese platter!
Outstanding French cuisine! From appetizer through dessert every dish was expertly prepared and artfully delivered. Highly recommended to all who like French food.
This is my favorite place for a non-steak dinner. You *MUST* sample some cheeses. My favorite dish is the Duck Confit, with red cabbage and sweet potato pure. They have a real Charcuterie plate here. The martinis are tasty. There is a Parisian contemporary style and a room with a fireplace. I'm a serious foodie and this place is at the top of my list.
We eat outdoors here. Really comfortable no-rush place to sit and enjoy. Accommodating staff. The scallops are great and the hanger steak with frittes is very good too.
My girlfriend and I had a really nice experience here. She has a severe nut allergy and the waitress as well as the chef were very diligent about checking everything and informing us on the menu items. On top of that the food was delicious and reasonably priced. The quality was excellent and we will definitely be coming back.
Great food, lovely service. But we were asked to submit to a temperature check to enter the restaurant. It was creepy. I understand that there are mandates that need to be followed, but this seemed beyond what is needed.
If this makes you feel more comfortable, then consider this a positive review. If it makes you feel uncomfortable, like it did my husband and I, then you should look for another place to dine. When we mentioned it to management, we were told that it would not change. So, make your own choice on if you dine here or not. We will not be dining here again.
A great find on our patio tour of Cleveland! There's a wonderful menu selection and drink/wine selection as well. The patio is relaxing and the service was great!!
First time here, booked it for a business lunch as it was close. Food and service were outstanding, will definitely come back here again, reccomend reservation as it was very busy.
I love food in this restaurant. My favorite dish is chicken with mashed potato and goat cheese sauce. The chicken is always perfectly done and the goat cheese sauce is smooth and silky.
great service and food. considering resteraunts I'm cleveland, this is one of the best place for French food. cocktails are pricey but also delicious. this is my wife and I go to place for lunch dates.
The men's restroom floor was filthy. Trout was unappetizing, slimy. Not returning, ever. However, mushroom soup was a winner. Also, the Mitchell's praline ice cream was yummy.
The website clearly said no reservations accepted for the patio so my wife and I walked over a mile to go there, only to be told we had to have a reservation for the patio and they couldn t help us. Update your website!!!. Really poor business to misinform your customers. We were among the same customers who patronized you during the shutdown to help you stay in business. Customers are who keep you in business. Probably won t be back
Fantastic meal that exceeded expectations from beginning to end. Oysters and escargot were among the best I've ever had. The lamb entree was perfection. Others at the table had similar reactions. And the service was too shelf, despite it being a busy Friday night. Their wine list was great and our waitress made some great recommendations. A fantastic evening out.
Dined here for my fiance's birthday and had a fantastic experience! First of all, the service here seriously cannot be beat. Our server, along with the rest of the service team, were the most attentive and quick that we've encountered at just about any restaurant which really sets this place apart. The atmosphere is upscale but still laid back in its own way. Great menu with a very diverse range of options as well, so there truly is something for everyone. I look forward to returning and continuing to try new things here.
Absolutely loved this place. Please make reservations before visiting as this place is quite busy,no wonder why- the food is delicious, the ambience is great and the staff is very inviting and friendly. Vegetarians, the pasta is a must try!!
Great food, huge menu, there is nothing you wouldn't eat or try. 5 of us went for dinner, all getting different things, and all were phenomenal, including appetizers and desserts.
We've been here several times, and it's one of the best restaurants in Cleveland. The food is amazing, and the service stands out. Try the cheese boards
Hit or miss. Servers are kind of terrible. The french toast is decent as are some of the cured meats/terrines, but most of the entrees are a waste of time/money.
The location in a vintage carriage house in University Circle is perfect. The garden is lovely and has a happy buzz and ambiance. We started with the gazpacho which my husband found too spicy, No questions asked they immediately replaced it with another first course of his choice, I had the halibut, he the duck -- both were excellent. Service is top drawer -- knowledgeable and gracious. Go for a taste of Paris.
Offer a wide range of Italian food. Nice setting. Food is delicious and fresh. Even the French fries taste better than other restaurants! I order a white wine mussels with onion fries . Also lamb brest on top of beans.
Service is the best I've had in the United States. Food causes you to moan with pleasure. If you are reading this review, you should come to this restaurant.
We had dinner last evening, three of us at table 902/2, 7PM. Our server was Jaisen. I have to say he was the most outstanding server I have encountered in a long time. He answered our many questions patiently and throurghly, about the various entrees. He double -checked on my question regarding arugula in the salads. When my sister didn't care for her cocktail du jour, (even though it was served exactly as Jaisen described) He so pleasantly made a change. The staff, overall, was very attentive.. I forgot how good this place was!
The fromagier was knowledgeable and patient and the wine was delicious. We ate so much cheese that we almost didn't have enough room for dinner, but the food was wonderful. Great atmosphere and wait staff.
Delicious food. Very good service. Very nice restaurant for your special occasion or just lunch with the girlfriend. Highly recommend! French onion soup, French toast with balsamic and mushrooms, duck confit or Roasted Cod is a muct have! Desserts are housemade and so so delicious!
We visited in mid afternoon to have a very early dinner. Even at this early hour, there was a decent crowd. That usually bodes well for a good dining experience. Our artichoke with aioli appetizer was delightful and refreshing. The French Onion soup was heartier than usual with large chunks of shredded beef,
This is a fine restaurant. The food was nothing to wow me, but it was still quite delicious. I felt satisfied upon leaving. The service was also good. The nice part is that there is outdoor dining as well, which looked really nice, had it not been such a cold evening. We went 10/12/14
We ordered takeout for duck confetti and cassoulet. They are both very good, except that the cassoulet is a little bit salty. Their duck has the crisp skin and tender and juicy inside.
It really is a little bit of France right in the midst of Cleveland. The charcuterie platter is the bargain of the menu and the mussels and fries (moules frites) can't be beat as a main course.
Disappointing - the seating accommodations were the first clue. We were seated at a tiny table for two, with white plastic chairs, in a room with zero ambiance, and servers brushing past us. There was a table for three only a couple of feet from us and every sound was audible. We ordered a house pate, but it was cold and much too hard to spread - the waitress saw our difficulty and offered to bring a different pate which was fine, except for the overly hard slices of baguette to spread the pate onto. I ordered one of the daily specials, boneless beef short rib with mushroom risotto. It had none of the rich flavor of short ribs nor the expected tenderness. It was served as small chunks of meat atop the risotto, in a small diameter, deep bowl. I could barely see it because of the deep bowl and the darkness of the room (we had to use a cell phone flashlight to read the menu). The short rib was probably roasted instead of braised which might account for the toughness and lack of flavor. My wife said her red snapper (also a special at a price you would expect for halibut) was alright but nothing special. The risotto in both dishes was flavorful but not smooth and creamy. We also ordered a dessert of apple cake and pecan ice cream, which was good, but not memorable. Our waitress was pleasant as she dropped off the check, but that was the last word we heard from any of the staff as we paid, got up and left the building. If this had not been an anniversary dinner for us, with both of us wanting everything to go smoothly, we probably wouldn't even have sat at that table in that room to begin with.
A gem of a restaurant hidden at the edge of Case Western's campus and within walking distance from the Glidden House hotel, and all of the museums. The interior is rather tight, with the kitchen greeting you as soon as you walk in. Be wary of staff moving through the space on the way to/from the kitchen and bar - the tight quarters can make going to the restroom or leaving your table risky if you don't pause at corners. But even with all the comings and goings, the restaurant had a very cozy feeling, the waitstaff was extremely attentive, and the food was delicious.
