Staff at the front desk is not welcoming; it can be difficult to divert their attention from their phones. They are nearly always out of towels. The gentleman who appears to be in charge of the pool is overbearing and, subsequently, so are the lifeguards. Finally, they took the water out of the dry sauna so the grown adults who use the sauna can no longer add water to get steam when they want it. They must consult with the lifeguards or someone else on duty. I'm not renewing our family's membership.

Overheard the manager (grey haired man) tell a guy in a green shirt to keep an eye on me and my friends only, and believe that the guy in the green was at every second hovering over me and my friends. I m disappointed that they could have been taking care of the kids actually causing trouble instead of us but chose not to. I am upset.

I only give it 3 stars because my son, who has special needs loves it there so much that we keep going back.

Personally, I find the lifeguards to be just statues. (Sure, there are those who stand out and make a difference. There are some that work hard) But most of the time they just stand around. Sometimes not even dressed for action, I mean in sweat pants/jog pants and/or a hoodie!!!! how can you save a life wearing a hoodie?

On one occasion a boy came down the big slide and struggled to get to the surface once he got to the bottom, the boy tried to swim but lost his footing. The life guard just stood there for a few minutes watching as this boy struggled, THEN after he realised the boy was in trouble, just reached out his hand... did not get in to try and help the boy out.

One day my boy (who was 3 at the time) and I were swimming in the kids pool, when suddenly (and you know how fast kids are!!) he got out and ran to the deep end pool.... well, me, just coming out of the lazy river following him (and thank goodness I was fast) caught up with him just before he climbed into the deep end... life guard watching.. not blinking a sweat! I asked her if she was going to stop my 3 year old from jumping in the deep end, she replied "Its NOT OUR JOB to babysit your child!!! WHAT? are you serious? I nearly slapped her... but held my composure, shook my head and walked away)

Would give zero stars if I could. I was a guest at my friends sons 1 year old birthday party and the staff made his poor little birthday such an awkward and terrible experience not only for my friend having to deal with it, but for guests as well. We starting swimming around 4:30 and many of the young kids got tired and stared to get ready with their parents to go into the party room which they had from 6-7. Well apparently one of the guests asked if he could go in and start the cheese dip in the crockpot since the room was locked. They let him in to do so and then left the door open and apparently started docking the party time with the room (even though it was reserved till 7pm). Once family and friends started going in the room around 6 a very rude blonde woman started to tell my friend who was hosting that we all needed to be out of the room by 6:05 because someone entered the room at 5:05 when he started the dip. It was shocking to say the least and then another woman came down (maybe a manager?) who started telling her we all needed to vacate the area and our time was up. We were trying to eat pizza, kids wanted the cake. We were just in disbelief watching this happen. Finally the woman said, you have till 6:30 and went away. But sure enough she came back trolling outside the room and then even came in the room in front of everyone student pointing at her watch saying, IT S ALREADY 6:35 IT S TIME . We all tried to help clean up the room at that point and then they just kicked us out completely. I ve never been so appalled at the service for a little babies party. Completely unprofessional and rude staff. Would highly advise against having parties here (not to mention all the family changing room was filthy). I feel terrible for my friend and that her guests also had to experience this.

I have never had any problems here and the staff in the weight room is so nice. I like the facility in that it is small enough to feel like family, but not overcrowded like a very large family! My son loves it!

This is a great spot with caring, friendly staff. Plenty of staff around to talk to. I've been a member here for several years.

They need to sweep/mop and keep the dirt and dust out of the free-weights area, so more attentiveness to cleaning the floors each day would be good. The WiFi is temperamental and 90% of the time will not work with my iPhone. It's a real hassle and when connected it is sluggish/slow. Time to upgrade the technology.

Those might make me sound like a jerk, but I do still think this is a 4-star operation. Beyond my complaints, certainly an exceptional place with good $$ rates.

I expect them to have a solid plan for expansion in 2018-2019 with all of the housing going up only 1 block away. Otherwise this place will be chaos and will have too many members.

This review is based solely on Toddler Time as my 2.5 year old would not get much out of the pool that she couldn't get from Grandma's pool and I have no current need of workout facilities. My daughter is kind of at an ackward age for their little jungle room. She is a little bit big for the small kid section and a couple of inches too short for the big Kids section. I thought there would be toys out and organized activities and this is not the case. Toddler time is good for about 30-45 minutes of so so entertainment and that is it until she is taller. For refrence she is 39 inches tall.

Absolutely love the January 1st through 15th annual 15% discount. Single membership is $315 annually! I would pay without the discount for a couple of reasons. They have a wonderful treadmills that are equipped with phone charger and computer screen with open web browsers. Extremely clean and beautiful facility that when enter the building you're going to get that feeling of "wow"! The restroom are connected to the pool and upstairs restroom for the cardio area. A skywalk track of the entire facility. It makes my jog interesting because of the many sports activities that they have in the huge well lit gym. But most importantly I am glad I moved to Overland Park. The community center shows that this community truly value there wellness of health.

Love the pool here! hot tub, lazy river, equipment for kids, a deeper pool for older people, and a waterslide! Their rules aren't too strict and they aren't dangerously mellow either. It is just that when I brought my own pool noodle, somebody stole it thinking it was part of the pool's equipment.

The pool is great for young children that cant swim or you dont want in the "deep end" as the deepest part of this pool is only about 4 feet. No diving boards. Great big slide and lazy river. Decent little slide for small kids The hot tub (must be at least 5 years old to get in) looks out over the hole pool. Walk in entry to pool makes it especially good for toddlers. They provide life jackets, noodles, and those little floaty board things. We enjoy taking our 2 year old there. They have one of those play areas like in McDonalds as well which is great to go to with my toddler to dry off a little more before we go back outside if its cold. The pool can get really crowded with a bunch of grade school (3-6th grade average age?) unless you go right after they open. The lap pool looks nice but never been in it. Hot tub is decent, the jets are all very low but they have pressure. Its a great place to go in the winter and on rainy days. We just started going this month (march 2014). I dont picture us going there over the summer months unless the outdoor pools are closed due to storms.
With that said, on occasions the lifeguard staff can be a little unprofessional. I have seen lifeguards with toy water guns squirting each other and tossing pool toys around when they need to be focusing on the people in the pool. If I am drowning I dont want the life guard distracted because he is spraying the female lifeguard with a water gun.

Matt Ross is part of a couple of overland park community loactions the other one being Tomahawk ridge which just like Matt Ross is a very nice community center! The staff is great and very friendly. I've never really had any problems with them. The gym is very well equipped and I would say it is enough to get a good workout, there is an indoor track that circles the exercise floor and also above thr basketball courts which are great. the shower/locker rooms are always clean and nice, they also have an indoor pool, a lap pool and water slide and lazy river...I would highly recommend this place to anyone I know the pool is great for the little ones they also have a playroom and child care room for when you want to workout and have the kids looked after. Overall I would say just a great place for the family

We came from Colorado to see Grace ambassadors ( Jeremy Johnson) it was held in the "Hearthroom". The staff had everything set up ahead of time and it was very comfortable , clean and spacious and the fireplace softened the room adding an Ambience touch. I did observe the pool and exercise room. Wishing our community had a place like this. Thank you Matt Ross for providing a great place for us to enjoy our evening

We had my babyshower there yesterday. The room was fine, nothing fancy. Several chairs are in need of cleaning.
The big issue I had, was that 15 minutes in, some staff member came to the room and Very loudly and rudely announced that we had used their cart (to bring in decorations) long enough now and that we needed to unload it and return it immediately. He then again emphasized that we had it long enough.
Why announce it so loudly and in such a rude way in front of the whole party, bringing it to a complete stop?? That was unprofessional, rude, and unacceptable.
Simple go to someone in the group and tell them (Its not hard to find the pregnant lady at a babyshower, plus I was right there up front) Instead of making such a show of it!

Family friendly, great place to work out or relax at the pool. Now have a dry and steam sauna! Great spaces available for group gatherings whether it is for a family function or a work related conference. Multiple rooms available that can be set up as a class room or larger rooms suitable for receptions of all kinds. Each space is elegant and well kept. They will even set up audio visuals aids upon request. It is truly a community center...has something for everyone and ever need in the community!

As a current Matt Ross Community Center member for many years, I would agree that it, "offers state-of-the-art rental facilities, recreation programs and fitness activities that are designed to help you lead a healthier, more well-balanced lifestyle." However, based on my personal experience, it is lacking in customer service, confidentiality, efficiency, and friendliness toward ALL members, regardless of gender, ethnicity, or class.

When I go in to exercise at Matt Ross , I want to experience a consistanly professional and positive environment, with a genuine sprit of friendliness from all it's staff members. I too want to feel confident that my personal information as a member, will be handled with descretion by all authorized employees.

I had an incident where I was singled out and greeted by name during a workout session, by a senior employee I had never met before. And when I inquired how he had obtained my name, he responded by telling me that he had looked me up on the computer, from when I checked in. I was shocked to say the least

I hope by offering this constructive criticism, improvements will be made in these areas. I'd like to be able to promote Matt Ross Community Center when asked by friends and neighbors for a recommendation. Currently, I avoid the subject.

I usually don t write these reviews but the staff and the pool at Matt Ross were excellent!

The guards on stand always had an eye on the water and wouldn t let any rule be broken. My daughter was enrolled in the swim lesson program that day and the instructors and the swim lesson coordinator were very good and professional.

The facility itself was very clean and tidy. The guards on break made sure everything was in order and clean.

Overall, my time at Matt Ross was very positive. I would highly recommend going their to swim or take lessons

This place is the saddest excuse for a community center I've ever seen. The lifeguard told my children they were NOT ALLOWED to wear their lifejackets in their pool. That same life guard allowed my daughter to go down the slide WITHOUT one. My daughter almost drowned. The staff is completely and utterly idiotic if they think it is okay to tell a child to take off their life jacket. I will never go back there again !!!

If you have kids or are elderly this might not be a bad option. However I will warn you this facility leaves a lot to be desired. At first glance this community center is impressive. Modern, clean, newer equipment. However once you start to visit daily you begin to notice the atmosphere. The staff is hit and miss. The older gentleman in charge of the pool is hostile towards staff and guests. There s other older male staff members(I will not disclose names) who are just as abrasive. Maintenance to facilities and equipment is lethargic. The sauna/steam room never make it past 110 degrees. Overall poorly run, you d get a much better value elsewhere.

It's alright. Usually too many people there and there is a lady at the front desk that gets really annoyed and snippy if you ask her any questions. I did not renew my membership to say the least.

Loved this space. My kids range from 2-9 and this works well for all of them. If you don't have kids, it's still pretty cool. There are lots of adult spaces. The bathrooms are always clean the facility is perfect.

After coming as a visitor several times over the past year, I am joining tonight. We love the friendly staff, and service is much better (and more affordable) here than at the new Olathe Community Center, which is closer to our home. I can't wait to take advantage of the towel service!

Worst service ever. a women reserved a party there and didn't sign form cause She wasn't informed. Blonde hair manager is the worst ever. So rude. Couldn't bring and leave simple cakes in the room? Literally wanted to leave party supplies and the women was on the way to sign the form and I couldn't leave simple supplies in the room. I do want to say it might have something to do with my race. The women was so rude and nasty. Very displeased

A manager made a big deal over us changing our 1-year old on the pool deck. We were unaware of their strick rules. He stood close by and stared at us and our children as we finished changing them. He also ordered us to pick up a dirty diaper which was a reusable pool diaper. It was hanging on a chair, not even on the ground. Three staff members stood by and ordered us to leave. We were clearly trying to leave in the first place, and the whole ordeal prolonged everything. The manager also marched toward my wife as she came out of the locker room with our son and made her feel very threatened. It really ruined the whole experience.

Went there for a birthday party. They have a good room by the pool for birthdays or occasions for children. There a water slide and a shallow pool meant for kids, a hot tub and a pool with a basketball hoop and race lanes. That's the only thing I did there but it was good fun

We had a baby shower scheduled at this place on June 3rd form 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. when making the arrangements we were told that the place opened at 10:00a.m. and we could arrive at that time, however when we got there at 10:00 a.m. we were informed by SEVERAL RUDE EMPLOYEES that we could not enter the room until 10:45 a.m., we had drove 2 hrs to be their at 10 a.m. so we could set up and decorate, because that was the information we had been told, the HELP was SOOO RUDE about everything, we asked about, we were told if we needed in early that it would be another $62.50? and if you were planning on renting the room you needed to include your set up time and clean up time. NEWS TO US, however, we finally got in. The set up was WRONG we had given them specific instructions wrote down how we wanted the room set up and NOPE not even set up how we wanted it to be, to late to worry about that, so we just went on with the baby shower, and was out of there by 1:50. In the middle of the shower a gentlemen came in from the room next door and asked us to turn down the music they were having CHURCH, (get a CHURCH) this is a "COMMUNITY BUILDING" we were using for a shower game, TALK ABOUT RUDE, this place is not worth the trouble booking. PLEASE LOOK ELSE WHERE IF YOU FEEL YOU NEED A COMMUNITY ROOM FOR AN EVENT.

Great facility great prices. This is one of the best kids pools in the area in my opinion. The whole kids pool is 3.5 ft at the deepest, deepens very gradually so that any child can find a safe place to play. The lazy river is super fun once kids are big enough, access again is only 3.5ft deep. They have great sorely facilities and nice clean changing rooms. All of this and more at a fantastic price. At the time of this review if you are in Overland Park resident a monthly membership will cost your family $49. That's hard to beat just for the gym and pool membership!
